  1. I confess, when I read this in my manual upon delivery, I just had to try it. So there I am with my head out the window and I hit the button. My neighbor thought I was crazy. :whistles: It wasn't that bad, but it would scare a child or a pet. steviej
  2. Move the Yokos to the rear and put the rear Bridgies up front. If the vibration goes from steering wheel to a shimmy coming from the rear end then the problem lies in the new tires and balancing. If the vibration stays up front, then you have other issues that will be addressed if later if this is the case. The Potenza RE92s are an incredibly quiet tire....that is the sole good point. They have crappy tread life if you rack up the average number of miles per year. They leave alot to be desired in rain and snow, especially when the tread depth is low. I suggest that you find a tire shop in your area that has the Hunter Road Force balancing machine and have the tires balanced once again. This machine uses applied pressure to the tire while it rotates to simulate actual road performance. Lastly, it is always recomended to replace the tires as a set of four, even dedicated snow tires. steviej
  3. I direct you to this currently active thread and ask that you read it and post there. 2003 ES tire suggestions I am closing this thread so that we don't have two ongoing threads about the same subject. steviej
  4. here is my guess, you say it was hitting the bottom edge, so I deduce the misalignment was a top to bottom rather that in to out or left to right. Of the passengers in the back seat, middle or left side rear, where they "heavy" people? I am guessing that when the person(s) that exited the vehicle from the rear left side used the door, most notably the top edge of the door, as a brace to pull them out of the car. When they grabbed the top edge of the door to help hoist themselves up, the extent of their leverage was enough to skew the door enough that the latch was now misaligned. hey, it's late, and I am tired. I am grasping at straws here. steviej
  5. 2002+ ES is alot easier than previous models. 1. kneel in the back seat facing out the back window 2. grasp the cover with a hand on each side and slide the whole cover to your left (to passenger side) 3. Now lift up on the cover and the entire bulb housing should be exposed. 4. Pull the bulb out. Replace with new one. Don't touch the new bulb with your fingers. 5. Replace cover and slide it to the right (driver's side). steviej
  6. 1. Coolant and top off have already discussed in this thread. 2. Make sure your tires are at the proper pressure for the loaded car (it is in the manual). Don't forget to check the pressure in the spare....nothing like finding a dead spare when you get a flat. 3. Oil and filter: you've done that. 4. Tranny fluid, check the level properly and note the color. 5. Check the condition of you accessory belts, should be fine. 6. Pack away a couple of road side flares (just in case). steviej
  7. I have a 2002 ES so right off the bat it may not be the same but, the 02 ES manual says to remove the air cleaner assembly to get at the speed sensor. From the picture it looks like is just behind the wiring end of the starter motor. It looks like an oval, with a bolt at one end and a 2 wire harness at the other. I am guessing the oval base it about 2 inches long. I hope this helps.
  8. these settings are know as C-BEST settings and the dealership should know how to set these to your preference. Call another dealership. As for the door beep, if the IS is like the ES, there is a volume knob just under the dash by your right knee, but this should be in your manual, too. steviej
  9. paint the hubs and calipers with brake paint. Rustoleum is not a high temp paint so don't use it. I have posted a thread on CL, here is the link, with pictures. also search on "paint caliper" here. steviej
  10. I wouldn't say scam. I would file these under marketing gimic. In that file you will also find the Bosch +4 and Splitfire plugs. steviej
  11. the number 1 reason why car modification is a billion dollar business. I vote for borla too.
  12. sounds like your battery is kaput and it ain't got enough juice to start the car. It will have enough to illuminate the little lights and stuff but not enough power to turn the car over. Can you get a jump? Somehow get the battery to Autozone or Pepboys (or the like) and have your battery load tested. I'm guessing it will fail. good luck. steviej
  13. I concour with Alan. If there is no cranking and no clicking (the important one here) then there ain't no action from the battery. In addition to the ignition, have the battery, battery cables and connections checked out too. steviej
  14. I would venture a guess the fuel injectors may be shot given all the additive that you use. Too much of this stuff is bad. Since the coil packs, plugs and wires are fairly new, then I would start thinking fuel starvation to bank 1. This leads me think fuel pressure problems, faulty fuel delivery (injectors) and more: This is what the manual lists for P0171 as possible problem areas: Air Induction system Injector Blockage Intake air flow meter EFI engine coolant temp sensor Fuel Pressure Open or short in A/F sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 A/F sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 PCV hose connection ECM All the P30# codes lists the same as the P0171 codes plus these addtional: Open or short in engine wire Connector connection Vacuum hose connection Compression pressure Valve clearence Valve timing At this point take it to Lexus and tell/show them everything you had done. steviej
  15. awh hell, If I knew you were going to sell them, then I would have taken them back just in case one of mine burns out. I figured you could be the nice guy at the next Toronto Lexus Meet and give them to a 2002-2004 owner should you meet one. steviej
  16. bc, The spoiler is from www.spoilerdepot.com. They can ship in Lexus OEM colors. I actually purchased the spoiler at and had it installed by Lexus of Norwood. The JDM chrome trunk bar was purchased online from: www.l-tunedparts.com It took about 20 minutes to install. here is a link to some pictures.. steviej
  17. Recently, the check engine light came on in my 2002 ES. The first time was about a week and a half ago while I was in Canada. I loosened and retightened the gas cap, within two starts of the car later, the CEL was gone. Tonight on the way home, the CEL reappears. I was minutes from an Autozone, so I pull in and the sales guy reads the code. It comes up P2241. I actually saw the LCD display and can verify that it was P2241. It also stated Bank 2, Sensor 1: low current. I haven't heard of this code and checked the OBDII listing I have at home and the actual 2002 Lexus ES shop manual. This code is not listed in either of them. Anyone got a clue to this code? Thanks for anyhelp. I may go to Autozone and have it read again. steviej
  18. Lexusfreak, I fixed your poll set-up as you asked, but I don't think the numbers reflected at this point are accurate. (2-2-3) 6 votes were cast when you only had the one choice. I don't know how they split out when I corrected your poll set up. Contact Matt McNally, he may be able to reset the poll so members can vote again and have the numbers tabulated accurately. steviej
  19. I did not post up with answers because it looked like you got them on CL. The filters go in a compartment that is behind the carpet next to the gas pedal. Pull the carptet back and you will see it very easily. Don't be surprised if you find a slot with no filters. Here, do a search and limit it to posts by me "steviej" Open the search up to go before 7 days ago and older. Search on "cabin filter" If your car has the odor and no filter is in place then the odor is eminating from mildew and growth in the AC vents and most likely on the evaporator fins. I posted a procedure for spraying lysol in the cowling vent to help kill origin of the odor at the source. I don't have an ES with the older style filters so I can't help you with the actual installation. However, I beleive lexusk8 gave you a link to a thread with specific instructions. As for places to get them, price it at you local lexus dealer, they have come down in price. then check www.lexus-parts.com and www.irontoad.com. You will have to pay shipping from them. See which is cheaper, internet source with shipping or your local dealership. steviej I posted
  20. I agree. for some reason the magic number of 55 mph comes to mind. I remember this from some Shell produced driving education video that was part of Driver's ed in high school (circa 1980). steviej
  21. Correct!!! We can have intelligent discussion without resorting to insults. Keep it civil. Personally, I like the service at the dealership just because of the vast numbers of Lexus vehicles and problems that they see, = experience. Far more than most mom and pop shops. However, I would not hesitate to use a inde shop if they have experience with Lexus and Toyota. (ie: JP Impotz) steviej
  22. the ID plate under the front edge of the hood will tell you if you have the latest software. See the PDF file attached in a previous post for proper location and what to look for. steviej
  23. On the IS, I think the glass in the fog light is yellow so changing the buld won't help. As for the DRL, if it is like my ES, the high beam buld is illuminated at 50% power so again, no matter what buld, it will be off white/yellish. Look on you headlight control, see if you can turn the selector to OFF, this may disabale your DRL. Mind you it also disables the AUTO function. If I am not correct about the DRLs, then I am sure bartkat will chime in as he is more knowlegable of the IS. steviej
  24. The most recent reflash is TC003-04R. R is for revised. It was released in April/May of 2005, I doubt your 2005 ES has it. I do think they are being shipped with it so soon after the revision. A few posts back is a pdf file that gives and explanation of where to look for the current ECU program. steviej
