  1. You can try the huge hard cover Chilton's Import Manual that covers your year. As mentioned before, take a trip to a large public library. These manual cover the basics but not in dramatic depth. You may find what you are looking for. If not, then spring for the Camry manual as also mentioned earlier. steviej
  2. This is insane, that same station less than 12 hours later was posting: $3.35/3.45/3.55 for 87/89/93. I am really glad that I didn't trade that ES in for the RX330 6 months ago. When I was 8 years old, I remember the oil embargo. My parents could only get gas on the odd or even days based on the last digit of your plate. The lines at the pumps went around the block and people would run out of gas just sitting in line. Time to start thinking about carpooling again. steviej
  3. very nice, now think about dropping it 1-2 inches. steviej
  4. dealership is not bad for the paint, it is not that expensive. depending on how big the dremeled area is, I would really rethink the whole idea. If you got rust coming through, then you got rust down under. Take it to a body shop for an estimate. That way they can blend the repaired area alot better then you can do with a bottle and brush. steviej
  5. Get in touch with JPImportz in Garland Texas. He should be able to give you some straight answers and provide you with quality service at less than stealership prices. If they just replaced the short block, then they probably did not clear nor even look at you TB and IACV. Just removed the whole mass, pop in a new block and put your dirty TB/IACV back on top. Dirty throttle bodies and iacv's are a common problem with the 1MZFE. AF sensors do go. I have already replaced two and the car only has 63k. One under warranty, one out of warranty. steviej
  6. I hear you. I didn't think I would see it so quick, but gas went over $3 in my area today. $2.82/2.92/3.02 for 87/89/93. :cries: steviej
  7. a few more details would be helpful. Is it a whirr, a bang, clang, ping, backfire, etc. Is it only when the car is started cold, warm, morning, first in the day, or everytime? Being summertime, is the AC on when you start the car? Next time you have time and when the car would usually have made the sound, open the hood and have someone else start the car. Stand in front of the car and see if you can't pinpoint from where the sound eminates and what exactly it sounds like. steviej
  8. india, curb the attitude please. when you searched, you may not have opened your search options wide enough. Here are some links to gas mileage. I searched all forums, opened the search to 7 days ago and older and searched on the word premium. Gas Mileage
  9. www.newlexusparts.com for new www.car-parts.com for salvage yards ebay steviej
  10. I am still anticipating your comments on the Michie's snow performance. I'll be patient for the next six months. steviej
  11. dude, everything sticks to leather, even Lexus leather, at 90+ degrees and 75% humidity in Boston. : :cries: steviej
  12. search on expansion valve and see if previously posted problems are similar. I think you will find similarities as this was a common failure part in early model ES ac systems. steviej
  13. Have you contacted the registry of motor vehicles in your state? They may want a word with him. If anything, only to protect you. I believe reporting false mileage is a federal offence, at least it is a state offense. Do you have a friend that is a lawyer, or have a family friend that is a lawyer. Ask some questions, you may have money due back to you because he sold you the car under false pretenses. If may only take a letter on legal stationary to get him to call you back. You are under 18 so it may take a parent or guardian to help you on this one. good luck and persue it. You bought 89k but got 183k. go to www.kbb.com and run the numbers on your car varying only the mileage and see what a worthy price is and should have been in you area. steviej
  14. As I was walking to work this AM I was pondering this thread because of all the other cars that I saw that fit into this discussion. Chevy Tahoe or GMC Denali and the Cadillac Escalade Chevy Avalanche and the Cadillac Escalade EXT Any Ford SUV and the Lincoln counterpart Toyota Land Cruiser and the Lexus LX470 Toyota 4Runner and the Lexus GX Nissan Maxima (previous design) and the discontinued Infinity I35 The VW Passat and the Audi A6 The VW Toureg and the Porsche Cheyenne Subaru Tribeca and the Saab 9.7x Subaru WRX and the Saab 9.2x I am sure the list goes on. Why let it bother you, let it bother the person who tried to throw it in you face. Evidently it does or they wouldn't have had the need to mention it. I got better things to deal with in life than someone else's envy. steviej
  15. when you bought the car, what is/was the warranty you got with it. If it is recent, which you say it is, take it back and suggest they take care of the repair or you will seek to get them to buy the car back. If it was spilt oil it should be gone within a weeks time. Since you washed the engine, if you look hard enough you may even be able to pinpoint the location(s) where it is leaking. You know this, it is over or above the exhaust manifolds. Valve cover gaskets are a consistent problem with the older model ES, as is the rear main seal. The front gasket can be done quite easily if you are mechanically inclined. The rear is not so easy just because of its location. use the Search button above, and try searching on "leaking valve cover", open the search up to 7 days and older and search the ES forum only. you will find many threads as well as various prices that people have paid and been quoted. I have read it can be up to $500 for both covers by a Lexus shop. Toyota shops may be a little cheaper. Good luck, post up if you have trouble searching. Keep in mind for getting codes read in the future. Your car is a 95. Most cars didn't adopt the OBD-II (on board diagnostic) standards until 1996. Lexus, however, implemented them in the ES in 1994. The problem is the connector on the data port that the tech has to use. It should be a rectangular connector in the OBD-II models but I think the 94-95 ES has a circular recepticle so even though they can read OBD-II codes they may not have an adaptor to have their reader mate with your data port. steviej
  16. was Previa here for a while too, then they starting pushing the Sienna. The 04/05 Sienna's run the 3MZ-FE (same as the ES 330). I don't know what the 06's will ship with. steviej
  17. red is from my Posrche dreams. email to come this weekend. steviej
  18. I painted my hubs and calipers with the G2 kit from TireRack. I used silver becasue that is what my car is. Next time I may do silver on the hubs and red on the calipers, but the red may standout too much. I don't know yet. anywho, here is a link to a thread I posted on CL over a year ago. If you wish, I have a bunch of pictures that I could email to you directly and discuss the process that I went through if you are interested. Caliper Painting Thread steviej
  19. is the vibration in the entire car or do you feel it most in the steering wheel? If the vibration is in the car and not the steering wheel, then try this: move the rear wheels to the front and the front wheels to the rear positions. Then go drive as speeds where you would feel the vibraiton. If the vibration is now in the steering wheel, then I would suspect the wheels that are now mounted on the front. If the vibration remains in the entire car and not in the steering wheel, then it may be rotor related and not specifically wheel/tire related. Another suggestion would be to find a wheel shop that has the Hunter RoadForce balancing machine. This machine applies a pressure to the rotating wheel as it is balanced to emulate the force of the road on the tire while it is spinning. Many tire shots just do a routine spin balance that does not apply this additional pressure on the tire, so what is balanced in the shop may not feel balanced in actual use. steviej
  20. I almost crapped today. Pulled in to the Mobil I was just at last Friday. Today it was: $2.69 / 2.79 / 2.89 for 87 / 89 / 91 . :chairshot: :cries:
  21. because the back three plugs are real nasty to get at. steviej
