  1. But you love the Covid virus? 🙄
  2. This partially why I gave up riding a motorcycle to focus on convertible sportscars in which I can drive with shorts and a tank top during Summer months.. 😏
  3. Have you deleted the code with an OBD II scanner? That's what the dealership should've done to verify the cause.
  4. I don't like/I hate wearing a suite. My funeral will be a casual wear-only event. Then again, I don't go grocery shopping in an old t-shirt and shorts, as many retired guys do.
  5. Yes, I did see that the OEM size had few options. The 285 size is 0.46-inch larger in diameter, which may mean that your speedometer readings will be a small bit lower that actual speed.
  6. According to tirerack.com, the alternate size for your vehicle is 285/60/18. See: Tire Search Results (tirerack.com)
  7. An auto shop can add a UV dye to your oil and then later check to see from where it is originating, especially if it is not obvious from the top or bottom of the engine..
  8. The 2014 and 2015 had suspension issues, and the 2016 had brake issues. The power top falls under the Body Hardware category. Every year from 2014 - 2017 shows that category as having much better than average reliability.
  9. I would try to stay with OEM parts, if possible. rockauto.com typically has OEM and aftermarket parts.
  10. Essentially, no, you should not waste your money, especially if you have a Japanese auto like Toyota/Lexus or Mazda. See: Should You Get an Extended Warranty for Your Car? - Consumer Reports
  11. Welcome, Ed. Keep in mind that compared to many SUV models and ES Lexus vehicles, the IS models sold in much lower numbers. Consumer Reports does rate them as being either better than average or much better than average in reliability. The 2015-2016s were rated better than average, and the 2017 earned a much better than average rating. There was insufficient data for other (newer) year models.
  12. Hello, Mike. Typically, there would be a warning light on the dash. However, it is always a good idea to have an OBD II reader. The only warnings I have seen, so far, have been a shifter warning that is always due to an older 12V battery that needs to be replaced. If you do buy an OBD II reader, you should get one that is capable of reading Toyota/Lexus codes. Here's one possibility, although it'd be prudent to query the seller about the reader's compatibility with your vehicle. 13. I hope you follow all recommended safety precautions and that you go by the factory service manual. Good luck.
  14. That looks right although a failure at that mileage seems to be rare.
  15. I have to wonder why the part numbers are different.
  16. Here's some good advice: Lexus RX400h AC Condenser Replacement Costs (yourmechanic.com) As you will see, if other conditions of the AC system have caused the condenser failure, additional cost may be necessary, so it is important to have the system checked for root causes.
  17. The RX400h uses a timing belt because a belt does last longer in a vehicle that is not running for some or much of the time, depending upon traffic conditions and locations. Also, belts are typically quieter than chains.
  18. Tips and tricks about AC issues and solutions: It looks like you covered some of them.
  19. So for the RX350h, 91 octane or higher is recommended, but 87 is considered to be the minimum value. The RX500h requires a minimum octane of 91, which is the highest octane in CA and some other states like Arizona. The AKI numbers given by auto manufacturers is the average of the Research Octane Number (RON) and the Motor Octane Number (MON)which is (R+M)/2
  20. If you let off the gas and put the car in neutral, does the vibration go away? If so, have the transmission checked. I would take it to a well-recommended auto alignment shop if you have established that wheel balance weights haven't flown off a wheel. Look for residual adhesive from weights that were on a wheel, previously. If by chance you have a loose transmission bolt, the sooner you have it tightened, the better.
  21. Our power liftgate has been working for 18 years, and from what've seen, a replacement motor is not all that difficult to install. To be honest, you're the first person I've seen on this forum who wishes to convert to a manual system. Does the Toyota RAV4 come with manual or power liftgate?
  22. Based upon my experience, resurfacing may allow you another 16,000 miles. When it happens again, buying new rotors (perhaps, cryo-treated ones) may be your best bet.
  23. If there is an Auto-Electric shop in your town, I'd recommend taking your car there, as that type of shop specializes in electrical shorts, drains, etc.
  24. Are you sure it's not low tire pressure at that corner?
