  1. What exactly is leaking? Our RX had a seeping valve cover gasket after 14 years and over 110,000 miles, but that repair was not very expensive at an independent auto repair shop.
  2. My Interstate batteries at Costco last between 4 and 5 years. Short trips that do not allow the alternator to fully charge the battery are often the reason for reduced life. If doing so is not practical, then you may want to buy a Battery Tender to keep the battery fully charged. When take our RX out, the minimum distance traveled is a total of 20 miles, round-trip unless the short trip occurs within the same week of the longer trip.
  3. That's a good idea, Frank. Please let us know how it works out.
  4. A future congrats to you and your wife, Bob. That is an amazing color. 👍
  5. You should be careful when considering smaller diameter wheels, as they may not have sufficient clearance for the car's brakes.
  6. How often does your maintenance schedule indicate the need change the transmission fluid? Many modern auto transmissions are programmed to downshift when your foot is off the gas pedal for a minimum amount of time.
  7. According to Consumer Reports, 2022 buyer's guide issue, the top three tires that meet your criterial (ultra-high performance all-season tires with Y speed rating (186 MPH)) are: 1. Goodyear Exhilarate 2. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 3. General G-MAX AS-05 Notes: The Goodyear and General tires have better than average noise suppression. (Michelin is average in this category.) General tires are rated average in wet braking, whereas the other two choices are rated as better than average. The Michelin and General are rated much better than average in the dry braking category, whereas the Goodyear is rated as average. Tread life: Goodyear: 45,000 miles Michelin: 55,000 miles General: 65,000 miles As expected, General tires tend to be over 20% less expensive. The Goodyears and Michelins tend to be somewhat close in price, with the Goodyears being a bit less expensive., according to Tirerack.
  8. ...or lease returns. As far as I know, the LC500s and LC500hs have been very reliable.
  9. Are you referring to an LS430? This may provide the answer: Where is the cam position sensor located on the left head of the 4.3l v8. The error was bank 1 camshaft position sensor. (justanswer.com)
  10. From justanswer.com: And here's a post about a similar problem.
  11. This may give you some clues about the hookup.
  12. Some independent repair shops sell and install cat converter shields. I would call a few to see if they might have a version to fit your Lexus or maybe an RX350.
  13. Did you check OBD2 for codes since the warning lights event? I would also check that the battery cables are tight and check the battery voltage before and after starting the vehicle.
  14. Does your car have this feature?
  15. Maybe something like this would be better: Amazon.com: OBDMATE 9360 Full System Diagnostic Scan Tool Compatible with Toyota, Automotive OBD2 Fault Code Reader Scanner with Engine ABS SRS TPMS Reset Battery Registration for Toyota Lexus Scion : Automotive
  16. Thanks, Robert. You do the same. By the way, there's a youtube channel called "The Car Care Nut" in which a certified Toyota/Lexus master mechanic talks about all kinds of things related to the brand. He also occasionally reviews other brands. I watch his videos every so often and learn a thing or two.
  17. Have you watched any R&R videos? They may help.
  18. Here's a thorough explanation of the code, as well as typical troubleshooting steps: P2770 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit High (obd-codes.com) Have you thought of having a diagnosis by a Toyota or Lexus mechanic?
  19. We have about 136,000 miles on ours. I use either 5W-20 or 5W-30. Maybe a 5W-30 will slow down your consumption. I do throw in a bottle of Chevron Techron into the tank, once or twice a year. This should help with carbon buildup on valves and pistons. Mileage is 24-26 depending upon driving route. There are RX400 owners in this forum whose vehicles have over 250,000 miles on them (original battery pack).
  20. Les, I think Mr. Toyoda is correct in that everyone is assuming EVs are the future, yet so many countries are oil rich and financially poor. They have no infrastructure for charging stations, solar and windmills. And then there are the cold weather areas where range would currently be very limited.
  21. It could also be a bad pulley bearing or AC compressor.
  22. Are you the original owner? Our RX400h engine uses no oil. It's oil was also changed every 4500-5000 miles with synthetic oil.
  23. Did you try contacting the vendor on eBay?
  24. Clicking or cheeping can also be a brake pad wear indicator. CV joints and wheel bearings can also make clicking noise when the vehicle is rounding a bend. It's probably best to have it inspected.
  25. Wow! You must have plenty of space to work on cars. It looks like your son is a shade tree mechanic like his Dad. Those are excellent skills to have now and in the future.👍
