  1. I was lucky to be able to send my EBCM to ABSfixer.com for repair. It was $100 and thankfully, the board was soft-potted, unlike previous Corvettes. I would never specify hard epoxy as an encapsulant for a circuit board. A new EBCM would've been $1200 or so.
  2. I'm sorry none of those tips worked, Doug. It is perplexing to say the least.
  3. There could be several reasons why your Lexus GX470 is not starting with the flat key and transponder chip: Wrong Key: You might be attempting to use a key for a different vehicle1. Locked Steering Wheel: If the steering wheel is locked, you can unlock it by turning the steering wheel from left to right while simultaneously turning the ignition key on1. If this doesn’t work, it’s recommended to have the vehicle towed to a Lexus dealership as the key may be worn/damaged or there may be a problem with the ignition switch itself1. Battery Issue: If you recently changed or disconnected the battery, your Lexus may not start because it has lost synchronization between the key and the vehicle2. You can try pressing the Start button with the keyfob2. Key Battery: The battery in your key might need to be replaced3. Error Code: If an error code is preventing the vehicle from starting, you can try clearing the code with a code reader or by disconnecting the negative terminal for 5 minutes4. If none of these solutions work, it’s best to consult with a professional mechanic or your local Lexus dealership for further assistance.
  4. Back in the early 2000s when I had a 2001 Corvette, I had to resolder joints on a HVAC digital display circuit board because the display blanked out. Perhaps suppliers had switched over to lead-free solder and didn't do enough temperature or current testing. Many Corvette owners faced the same issue. Another was a fading HUD when ambient temps climbed. I never fixed that one, but it wouldn't surprise me if solder joints were the culprits.
  5. That's been done away with for a long time now. Years ago, the oil change service description was "Lube, oil, and filter".
  6. Yes. I would describe the issue to the Service person who should ask you to stop by to show it to her or him.
  7. If this were my vehicle, I'd take it to my favorite alignment shop. They are experts at not only alignments, but also suspensions and brakes. Sometimes what is not readily apparent to you, is "old hat" to the pros.
  8. That should be covered under your warranty. Is it not?
  9. Have all tire/wheels balanced at a tire shop. Discount Tire will typically do this for free. If that doesn't solve the problem, there may be a worn suspension component. An alignment shop can investigate and replace the worn component(s).
  10. Here's some good information about warped and glazed rotors: Why Do Brake Rotors Warp? | YourMechanic Advice Also, you may have air in your brake lines or a worn-out brake master cylinder.
  11. It looks like the method used on RX models in general includes these steps: Turn off your vehicle and disconnect the battery. Doing this will help prevent electrical mishaps or electrocution. This should not be necessary if replacing the bulb, only. Open the trunk. This will allow you to access the trim paneling on your vehicle. Remove trim lining. Using the small flat head screwdriver, pop out the plastic rivets holding your vehicle’s trim liners in place. Remove tail light from the assembly. You can do this by pinching the connector and pulling out the bulbs of each tail light.
  12. Your signature lists a 2016 ES350. I thought that you posted in the wrong section - sorry.

  14. Have you perused some of these links? Lexus codes P101 MAF circuit range/performance P0172, P0175, system too rich P2241 O2 sensor pumping current lowest - Search (bing.com)
  15. This is a starting issue, so it may have nothing to do your hybrid battery. The big questions are: Is there a current drain on the 12V battery? That is easy to check. Where is the drain originating from? That might not be so easy. Are any of these shops near? Auto-Electric shops in Virginia - Search (bing.com)
  16. What are the issues? Who is doing the alignment?
  17. Do you have an Auto Electric shop in town? They are typically experts at finding pesky electrical drains. When you take the car out, how many miles do you drive? We drive ours for a minimum of 12 to 20 miles. Our small battery, a Costco one, lasts about 5 years.
  18. Does your mechanic have a Toyota/Lexus code scanner? If not, you may want to take your car to a Lexus mechanic, especially one that has experience with older LS models.
  19. I've been through quite a few "meetings" with dealership finance department personnel, so I know what you've experienced. It's like a much longer version of getting offered insurance for a new TV. If extended warranties were typically not profitable for the sellers, they wouldn't be offering it. Is your purchase for the 2013 RX350? If so, hopefully you reviewed maintenance records.
  20. Hi, Denise. Congrats on your purchase! You may want to read this Consumer Reports article about this topic. Should You Get an Extended Warranty for Your Car? - Consumer Reports
  21. I would check with a dealer's parts department person to verify whether the part numbers are the same.
  22. I'd see where it would be, based upon what is shown in the videos, then take a look to verify.

  24. I see very few hydrogen cars (Toyotas), so I think it's safe to say that they are not very popular. I do see every fifth vehicle is a Tesla. The main reason many still live here is prop 13, which severely limits property tax rate increases. For example: My Dad's house in Conn. was purchased for $130,000 in mid to late 80s. It sold in 2019 for $230,000. Many houses in southern California of equal size and age sold for close to the same (maybe $20,000 more) yet were worth $600,000+ in 2019. Original owner houses worth $1.5 million have property taxes of about the same as that $230,000 house. (approximately $4000/year). So if you are an original owner or a second owner who purchased a house many years ago, you are wise to remain in the state, since the cost of living can actually less than in some other states. Some folks in Florida are seeing rapidly escalating property and auto insurance costs. Both are very reasonable here in many southern California cities.
