  1. Get a FREE owners manual at: www.Lexus.com Have your VIN ready. Personally, I think just about anything with valve clearance would knock on startup with 5 weight oil [in the winter]--it is just about like sewing machine oil !!!!! As a result it drains to the pan. But pressure builds-up rather quick.
  2. Will not run those plugs and do not recommend them----they have 0.4mm center electodes. Will/would not even run Bosch plat. plugs[they were the first on the market] because of the same reason. Once snakebit--always snakebit !!! Have seen MORE than one cylinder on a car ruined because of the small center electode sometimes will break off and go down between the piston and cylinder wall [spell: ruined engine] !!!! Normal diameter center electodes(w/platinum) will not break off and if they did they are too big to go between piston and cylinder. But, maybe they are better than they used to be--who knows---I don't, and won't find out.
  3. Suggest when you change plugs that you install double-platinum plugs---[on the anode and cathode]. Then you won't have to change plugs but every 100k, but yes they cost more. This should apply to anything that it takes 2hrs+ to change plugs--F150's, vans, Northstars, etc--- FYI: a dealer charges $100. to change the plugs on the back bank of a Northstar Cad.-----and that is with you giving them the 4 plugs !!!!!
  4. Go to dealer and get the touch up paint--#1C0 Color Name - Paint Code - Year Black Onyx - 202 - 2001, 2002, 2003 Graphite Grey Pearl - 1C6 - 2001, 2002, 2003 Crystal White - 062 - 2002, 2003 Diamond White Pearl - 051 - 2001 Millenium Silver Metallic - 1C0 - 2001, 2002, 2003 Intensa Blue - 8N8 - 2002, 2003 Spectra Blue Mica - 8M6 - 2001 Solar Yellow - 576 - 2001, 2002, 2003 Electric Green Mica - 6R4 - 2002, 2003 Dark Green - 6Q7 - 2001 Absolutely Red - 3P0 - 2002, 2003
  5. The only problem with it being stolen or totaled is that you will get only about $3800.--$4200. for it, if that !!!
  6. Don't understand why you didn't want to save $100+ on the struts like most of the folks in this forum?????? :o
  7. Den: Do you feel comfortable running a detector in Va.???; I run a Valnt. One plus a jammer(Phazer) but take both out and put them in the trunk when I get above the NC line. Can't help but remember when they put a trucker in jail and fined him for running a cardboard box painted black on the dashboard that looked like a FuzzBuster. He did it to protest--but found out Va. is tough. This was years ago after the law was enacted[FuzzBuster was the 1st detector](Va & Cn had the first law); but it happened. Not referring to the Fed law now on 18-wheelers, but the state law. Also, Va would not take a check or credit card if you got caught speeding ($100. min.) and if you didn't have cash, you went to jail, until it was 'wired' to you-----this was for OUT-OF-STATE drivers only. I also lived in Va for 3 years --at Bayside, where the bridge/tunnel comes in---was in Army Air Defense Command--we had Nukes in Nike missiles all around Tidewater--no one knew it tho. Some guys[in Co. I worked for] carried a certified check from a bank (made out to them) so they could endorse it over to Va. if they were stopped and didn't have enough cash. Don't know current policy tho. INTERESTING !!!!!!
  8. I use Maxifrig in 3 cars[not Lexus--it is 134a]; replaces R-12, about $5.50 per can, COLDER, anyone can buy it, non polluting, use only 70% of normal charge, no change to ester oil !!! Vacuum pump is required--will not mix w/Freon. BUT not for everyone---each to his own. Some folks run nitrogen in their tires--do what 'turns you on' !!!! :D Most conversion is done to R134a BECAUSE of the cost of R12 plus anyone can buy it(w/o certification). But the oil has to be changed !!!! Pressure/temp curve of 134a is different than R12 and sizes of R12 systems are not large enough--which causes the evap temp to be slightly lower on R134 (when put in R12 system). Just type 'R134a' in goggle and you will find out why, etc. Note: Maxifrig is outlawed(contains propane) and cannot be installed at a A/C shop. This is a DIY thing. site is: www.maxifrig.com
  9. If you wrote a check today for this--you should be at your bank when the doors open tomorrow morning and stop payment on the check !!!! Then go back to the a/c shop and tell them to fix it correct so you can pay them. Hope this works---- Your a/c is NOT correct. if they used R134a you should know it--and as was said it won't be as good but shouldn't be that bad. what are you going to do when it gets 100 outside ??
  10. on holes in front: Screw a lic.plate screw in them; then use chrome/gold round screw covers avail at advanceauto,etc--or then paint the covers the lower panel color to blend in. Note that the 'Lexus' in the photo is just plastic script stuck on with molding adhes. Should be able to get the small plate from the dealer[if you want to go that way]--that was where the plastic script above came from[was mounted on a chrome plate(that got bent)]. If you go with the plate, you might want the screw covers anyway. Note that these are good also for the rear tag even if you have a surround. See attach. for example
  11. resist urge to hit brakes--a bump can put a metal plate in your neck 15 years later without you knowing you had a small spur created; seen it too many times.
  12. Didn't say I wouldn't want one; the orig. query was "how hard would it be to do this" Was just listing problems; but they could be overcome. Certainly Lexus wouldn't make one--but maybe someone might--after all, 1990 LS400's are cheap enough for someone to try.
  13. gas tank problem upper rear strut mount problem no frame on car
  14. Do not do anything until it stops cooling. I personally have never heard of an oil leak unless R-12 / R-134 was coming out also; that is why the dye that is made is oil based for the ester/mineral oil and the purpose of the dye is to find a GAS leak NOT oil leak. Oil will always accompany the refrigerant out of the system normally. Again, you were told this-----sometimes you can't believe what you are told[even the above!!] so really the best thing to do if you want to, is to get a second opinion. :P
  15. SUPER tutorial on the whole job : :D http://www.pearsonimaging.com/LS/tuneup.html
  16. throttle body cleaning instructions: http://www.lextreme.com/tb.htm
  17. as per the '93 service manual: there are 80(EIGHTY) clips[of 3 different types] on the moulding. That is just for upper moulding--not the one between the rear window and the trunk lid. Think you should go to a glass installer and one experienced with Lexus clips--I have bought some clips from Lexus and they can cost as much as $2. each ck on the extra cost of 0 deductable-you should be surprised. certainly collision is where you want the $1000+ deductable.
  18. you should have comprehension insurance that would cover vandalism-- just 'keyed' paint sometimes can cost $2000. Most folks have '0' deductable compre--since it hardly cost anymore. Call your ins. co.
  19. You might consider this look. looks better than under panel. :P
  20. How can you have 'white' turn signals in NY?????? Fed DOT says amber at all corners???? referring to the bulbs not the lens!!
  21. Not sure the '92 manual is for a LS--reference is made for pulling a parking brake that is mounted in the center console; not a foot operated parking brake. Unless the '92 has a handpull brake--which would appear illogicial, but I have never been in a '92--only a '93.
  22. What are you saying??? If paint is coming off, then you need to repaint it??? Real simple.
  23. crawl?? up under the car and tighten up on the nut holding the 2 brake cables(actually one in a loop) to the rear hubs--will be somewhere behind the transmission. Just follow the cables going forward !!!
  24. Just checking your 'name'---must be Greek and left NYC. Great !!!! welcome to Lexus 'heaven'. This is the place to be. :P
  25. Maybe this will be a clicker: http://www.irontoad.com/l_home.htm
