  1. now that sounds super, curt. will look; if anyone else finds out post!!!!!! yes it is the ends that is the problem. tks
  2. basically same thing I found out a moment ago; any Toyota part will not fit--can order the Lexus part for $71. back to square one--and continue to use prop--or go to a junk yard. tks wish they would have use some 'generic' parts--aways thought: a conspiracy!!!
  3. As a comparision: recently put battery in my 93 LS400; was DEKA, 700cca@0degress; $81.50, w/60mo warrenty. fits perfectly, was #827FMF.
  4. I need to replace the hood support struts and Lexus wants $70 each for them. Has anyone here found a replacement other than 'Lexus'. I have not been sucessful finding anything with that design end on them. Tired of using my wooden stick. I have not tried the salvage yards yet to get an OEM; regarding this, do later model ones fit the '93--know it is best to take the old one with me. TKS.
  5. Try disconnecting the battery for about 15 sec. That may work. Advise
  6. WELL !!!! if you read the post 'dead battery-no roll' you will see that I got hit in the rear last week-----the estimate for this was $6000. so be thankful I suppose !!!!!!
  7. code 21 is for the solar sensor and will go on in a garage but will go off when you pull outside. My book[for '93] says code 22 is for compressor lock; also the AC lite will blink. Doesn't list code 33 !!! If you are a DIY, you may want to check into Maxifrig [type in google-avail in Tx.]--I use it in 4 cars, but haven't needed it in the Lexus, but would install if I needed. costs about $5. per # and you only need 70% of capacity of an R12 system-also much colder than a R134 conv. plus works with R12 oil. Richard
  8. Just found something out today: if the battery is dead you can't get the shifter out of park. This might be bad if it occurred and you had a roll-back pull the car up from the front--could it break the park-paw?--not sure--but wanted to post. Got hit in the rear this week [you should have seen the 2003 Lincoln!!];it dove down and went up under the Lexus. Anyway, trunk light wouldn't go out and battery went down. Knocked the trans. shifter position indicator out of sync.[in drive indicates neutral]--but dash indicator OK--having trouble finding that prob. in the shop manual. Also, does anyone know of a dealer(US) that has the gold plated exhaust tips-mine are damaged and dealer says NLA--Can't go to the gold site advertiser to get-in England !!. Richard
  9. At the dealer only I would think; my 93 2-vol set was $110 in 99--don't know what they are now; no Haynes or Chilton Richard
  10. Tks--advise. I certainly need to drop back to 10W40 for the winter. Reminds me of something: In '82 my wife had a BMW 2002 and we used 20W50 in it. Well, one morning when she went to work it was -8 degrees [ an all time low for Greensboro, NC]; I went out about 15 min early to warm up the car for her. The oil filter split and oil was all over the driveway--and it had a bypass pressure relief too !!!!!!! That morning I sure needed Mobil 1 !!!! Richard
  11. $0.02: Depends on your location !! Bought the 93 Lexus w/100k and have used Castrol 20w50[carryover from all my BMW days] and now have 163k and it burns & drips absolutely ZERO--change every 3k; but would not use that grade if car was new. If you are upnorth you can use this grade for one change--summer !!! then you need to drop back--how much depends on your latitude--at least to 5w(on cold side) if mn,etc. syn is great but I love to change every 3k[have my own Autolifter] and it is not economical; also I wouldn't dare put it in a car with over 100k unless it had it all it's life. Opinion!!! Richard
  12. Note that BG 44K cannot be bought at AutoZone,Advanced, or Pep Boys or any place like that--it is not a cheap product. AGAIN--just type it in Google and see what people say about it--I have used it for years--had a 635CSI that set for several months and wouldn't hardly run--only with that product was I able to sell it!! It is running around $20 at most places which are: high performance BMW,Porsche, etc shops--would use telephone to locate or buy on-line. When you sense the engine running 'rough' or seemingly detect a skip or hestation on acceleration--other words, things are just not right, then put it in the gas tank. It is 'strong' so don't overuse it. Surely someone out there has used this before--if you have been 'into' high performance cars !!!!! Also: I bought a 2 vol shop manual for my 93 LS400 at the dealer for $110 in 1999---this was a DEAL; I recommend to the mech. inclined [you won't even be able to replace the radio antenna without knowing what 2 buttons to push !!!!]--I have had shop manuals on almost everything[from 1934 on up] and they are the Lexus are the best I have seen--but the car is complicated !!!!! Ford wanted $600 for a set on the 97 F150--finally Haynes came out with one!! Richard
  13. New to the group!!! I certainly recommend 'BG 44K' for a system cleaner. Have used it for years. It does make a BIG difference. DO NOT use this product more than every 10,000 miles. Just type the name into Google to find out what people say about it. Curious if anyone in this forum uses it. Richard '93 LS400
