  1. I have to spray WD-40 on the linkage[under the dash] about every 3-4 months--this is because at that point in time the release has to be pulled 2-3 times to make the bulb go off (the 1st pull releases the brakes). Don't think this would work if the bulb never went out, but might try.... Just don't like to pull it 2-3 times !!!! Also I had rather do that than stand on my head trying to get to the linkage for an adjustment, etc.
  2. Sure is funny that I have been using 100w/80w bulbs in all my cars for the last 14 years[started with Ciba Z-beams in a '86 635CSI] and nothing has burned up yet!!! They use only 7 amps each--- just how big a wire does that take!!! The fuses are rated at 15 amps which is normally 20% less than the wires can handle, and that is why the fuse burns out before the wire does !!!!!! Even if the bulbs were 500 watts each the wires would never burn---of course, they would only stay on a split second since the fuse would burn out. Guess I will just continue to live dangerously.
  3. Suggest 3-M Adhesive Cleaner instead of Brake Cleaner. The brake stuff is fairly 'mean' with toluene in it !!!! And it evaporates too fast for an overall cleaner. The 3-M product # is 08984 in a qt. or 08987 in a spray can. I would NOT be without it in the garage.
  4. Been using Xenon high intensity WHITE bulbs from JC Whitney for years----these are 100W/80W. much better than the stock. Note 'white'-----not 'blue' !!!!! New wiring not required. But will "break-the-bank" at $25. for two.
  5. another grease for the bushings: White Lithium
  6. I used Liquid Glass in 1953 !!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY !!!!! It is an old,old product repackaged !!!! You young guys wouldn't remember---was in a can with a paper wrapper and had fluorescent pink printing on it!!!! It was good then--but not now !!!!
  7. Wanted to get Stoner's 'Invisible Glass' cleaner for a long time but could never find it until AutoZone started carrying it just recently. Have used their tire dressing for years and it is THE best !!!!! And just now AutoZone carrys it also [was just specialty shops]. Used the glass cleaner today for the first time------you just can't believe how good this stuff is. Recommend ALL Lexus owners try this---it is awesome !!!!!! THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!! You will NOT be disappointed .
  8. WOW !!!! Steve you didn't say that you could sign up for a FREE Owners Manual & Supplement to be sent to you at no cost. At least that is what I just signed up for (so it said !!!!). Maybe they have changed that--go back and see if I am correct. Also said you could not sign up for a manual but every 30 days ?????? If this is correct, another post should be made with subject "Free Owners Manual" !!!!!
  9. It is in owners manual. Basically all filters[/oil] replaced(inc. a/c) and a look-and-see on all else. May be cheaper to go to a large Toyota dealer{most are doing Lexus maint. now}. You should ask basic price and what it includes; should get it from both dealers. good luck
  10. Suggest youall look for Xenon or 'white' bulbs for this addition. Not higher wattage as confines of this lamp wouldn't allow it. The YELLOWISH bulb just does not match the white light of the headlights!!!!!! The bulbs are 'out there'. I even changed the parking lites on my Gen I with PIAA super white bulbs(168/148) to match the white of the Xenon aftermarket headlite bulbs(100w/80w) I run. The original yellowish parking lites just did not look good at night since they are on with the headlites.
  11. Mate: I can't find them there--you sure ??? They have the complete chrome 'hubcap' with the gold logo!!
  12. Certainly don't want them to fall off because of me !!! Don't know what kind of 'stick-tape' is on there, but when mine was installed in '96[not by me] it was a dealer part and had sticky on it. They stayed on until I took them when the trunk lid was replaced last month due to a rear-ender. Also took the other emblems off that I replaced with new ones. The other ones also had sticky on them as well as the studs, obviously like the LS400 ones you have now. I cleaned the old sticky off then put on small pieces of emblem tape sold by JC Whitby in 1/2" wide rolls. Also had to buy the small plastic inserts to install the other two. One thing-if you do remove the studs, do not get dust, etc. on the sticky tape(leave the plastic cover strips on)--Dremel tool with the round saw blade would be best. Also, put solvent on the area to remove the wax before installation. Make sure you layout the location with a ruler and pencil marks[similiar to the location of the 'Lexus' emblem] before the install; once they touch the car you can't twist them to relocate. good luck.....
  13. Mate: Suggest you grind off the studs before you install. Do not drill the trunk lid. You have to have the plastic inserts to go in the holes before you install the emblems(a dealer item). The emblems do not just mount in the drilled holes. But the biggest problem is lining up the emblem and marking the holes exactly---if the holes are just barely off, then the emblem(s) will be crooked---not good!!!! The 'LS' is one emblem and the '400' is one emblem----not connected. Also unless you paint the edge of the holes you will have rust streaks down the trunk lid!!!! My gold emblem(s){LS400} did not have studs. Note that the other emblems have studs[ the L in the middle has 2 large studs and 1 small stud and requires 2 different part numbers for the plastic inserts]. The 'stick-on' emblem has been on the car since '96 and has not come off----you use emblem tape(JCW) to install unless the emblem is new and has sticky as yours is.
  14. Based on all the posts on this subject, it appears that a left tilt is not abnormal for an old 400 !!!!! Mine was almost identical to yours and I am not looking at all [and I have an Autolifter in my garage]. Don't think anyone has seen a tilt to the right; at least in the USA. Craig--just remembered: the swaybar lub should be silicone grease[made for rubber and waterproof];generally comes in small tubes. Polyurethane bushings should use Molybdenum Disulfide grease.
  15. Mine had the LS400 emblem(s) there when I bought it about 3-4 years ago--but it was part of a GOLD package bought by the other owner in '96(I think) as per the Lexus history sheet; but never seen another with it. Package even included a gold antenna nut. Note that the standard 2 emblems have holes in the trunk lid and clips[as well as 'sticky']--I just put new gold ones on !!; and the LS400 is 'stick-on' only.
  16. curious to know if all the fluid would drain out when you remove the solenoid [screen]???
  17. Craig--what did you lub the swaybar bushings with??
  18. Is this referring to the shift panel on the console on the left of the shifter???????
  19. The rod is not in the spring---it is on the outside of it. And works just fine. OR you can install new springs on the drivers side,OR take the springs off the passenger side and grind off enough to drop 3/4" and then heat and flatten the end then grind a flat on it !! Rather have the rod--or even the tilt[isn't noticable anyway]
  20. no one has responded yet so I will even tho I don't know what I am talking about !!!! I do not have a '98. BUT--if you are needing to insert a bulb into the back of a housing then you may be able to use a base for a 194 'wedge' bulb available at [photo is attached]: www.taillightking.com you drill a hole, insert and then use a dab of silicone to hold. If this is what you are wanting, then I suggest you get a bright white 18 watt bulb for this from: www.autotoys.com This is a replacement bulb for the 194 that is only 5 watts and is not good enough for what you want [also it is a yellowish white lite and unbecoming for a Lexus].
  21. You can file a complaint online with the Attorney General of Washington at the following site; http://www.atg.wa.gov/ Anyone else here in the 'same boat' should do the same. At least it may make you feel better.
  22. Lowenhart LD-1 Cast 20x9 38.5 suggest you type it in Google---you will be suprised what you may find !!!! Sure is a BIG wheel !!!
  23. May want to consider the 'screw or bolt' covers. they are avail at Advance, etc. ; they are round, in chrome or gold [depending on your emblem color]; if the bolt is too big then you split the clear plastic retainer, slip around the screw head then just snap on the covers when the screw is tightened. Gives a super appearance--without having the screw or bolt heads visible-----fitting for a LS !!!!!! I have gold to match the emblem finish---also I installed screws with the covers in the holes in the front bumper [NC does not use plates in front]--looks finished without the holes showing !!!
  24. It is hard to see but there is about 1/4" from the TOP of the fins to the cover; this alt. has holes all over it, all around and in the front and in the back !!! Never seen one with so many holes !!!! I even had to cover it when I pressure washed the engine---very unlike any car I have ever had--but I have never had a Lexus before[mainly BMW's]. Would probably have done this just for washing the engine. There is still lots of air intake room. The HOT ROD 100 amp unit being sold is almost solid all over. Anyway, I wouldn't have done it except the thing stopped putting out and I had to remove it for repair---the rotor wore out !!!! was down about a 1/4" all the way around-where brushes contact !!!! so had to have a new rotor and brush set. Didn't even know about the dripping of the power steering until I read it here, but it sure could happen. Really what upset me was that the alt lite on the dash never did come on[it is 'on' before a crank !!]--don't know why!???
  25. Still think that for $150 (list) that the Roady [price includes the wireless transmitter] would be the way-to-go !!!!!
