  1. For the differnce in price I would go with the new one Have a look here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LEXUS-LS400...sQ5fAccessories
  2. I don't know if this will help. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/lighting/upperstoplight.html
  3. The gas tank gauge problem is normally due to a single capacitor failure on the cluster panel and 2 others give the flickering dash problem. If you can DIY it can be sorted for a couple of $$ or get a local radio shop to fit them for you. There are details on removing the cluster on www.lexls.com and cluster repair instructions on the web.
  4. I was going to replace the seats in my 1994 LS and found what looked a good clean set in the same color on Ebay from a 98 model year, however when I saw them for real they were in a worse state than my originals with a tear and serious wear on the drivers side (US passenger side) so I left them. If you are serious about it, as all the other members suggest get the originals recovered because you will be lucky to find a decent set from a donor car. Apparently some have fitted LS430 seats into the LS400 but it does require some technical fabrication skills to adapt them.
  5. Recheck all the electrical connections to all the sensors particularly the crank angle sensor and the camshaft position sensors and make sure the sensors themselves have not ben damaged. There is a lot of disassembly for the cambelt change and it is easy to miss something when going back together.
  6. Looking at the front of the engine with the engine cover removed you will see the intake plenum chamber right on top of the engine. Mounted on the front of this with 3 nuts is the IAC valve. Below is a picture of the earlier engine but the position on yours is similar
  7. So have you bought the car off the guy who had the same problem in May 2008 and never got it fixed or have you just had the belt and water pump replaced by the same mechanic and now have the same problem?
  8. Have you accidentally pressed the button on the drivers control pad that disables the other windows?
  9. First time I've heard this, I'm 6ft tall and still don't need the seat fully back, how about removing the front seat and sitting in the back to drive
  10. If you have a "pumping/vacuum" sound in the throttle body area this could be the clue, check all the rubber hoses for the vacuum lines including the brake servo/booster pipe for damage or splits, if you cannot find any try spraying some "Easystart/ether/carb cleaner ( as known in the UK) around the throttle body and pipework whilst the engine is running to see if the engine picks up suggesting there is a leak in that area. When you removed the battery lead did you move it away from the battery as the lead goes down close to the ignition coil and HT lead and the movement may have disturbed it.

  12. That's what I did with mine but drained and refilled 5 times over a couple of weeks, draining removes 1.9 Litres ( sorry UK measurements) so top up by the same amount. On the last change I replaced the sealing washer on the drain plug for good measure (around $3.00 from a dealer) Just a thought is the transmission pan made of metal or plastic mine seemed to be plastic.
  13. Some one has stolen your battery, brakes and drained the engine oil during the storm! :o Seriously search the forum for "trunk hinge wiring" as this is a common problem causing symptoms you have amongst others. Another possibility is that your battery is on its way out so have it checked.
  14. It's a cheap and easy option for you guys with Toyota Type IV at around $5.00 a quart :D For the tutorial on the fluid and filter change have a look at the link below http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/transmission/
  15. Hi, Code reading on the link below http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html The later seats can be fitted although fitting LS430 seats requires a few mods.
  16. 1994 was the changeover year for the LS400 pre October 1994 will not have OBDII those made after will have.
  17. Hi, With the battery being completely dead it may have caused a problem with the alarm/immobiliser system have a look in your owners manual for possible reset solutions.
  18. Type "Lexus LS400 dash illumination" into google and see the solution appear on the screen if you can solder you can fix it yourself in an hour.
  19. Here in the UK with the price of gas the equivalent of $8.00 a gallon we always get bad gas mileage!!!! Lexus do not recommend warming the engine before driving.
  20. Obvious thing to check is are all the lights at the rear working? If you replaced any bulbs are they the correct type, check the bulb holder contacts and make sure the multiplug to the light cluster is fitted correctly.
  21. I've never heard of the need to replace the reservoir but there is a mesh screen at the bottom of it that should be cleaned and ensure a new O ring is fitted to the outlet port of the pump where it fits onto the pump. These pumps can be rebuilt Lexus supply a "gasket kit" containing all the required parts except the bearing which is available separately
  22. Sounds good to me This may help you http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/cooling/coolant.html
  23. This should help you decide whether you want to do the job yourself http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/transmission/removal.html
  24. If you had a duff alternator your battery would be going flat. Check the mega common problem of the trunk hinge wiring loom and repair as required before going anywhere else.
  25. Please don't tell me it is in the low 60's in Ft.Lauderdale it is around 30 in the UK at the moment.lol It's 4 years since I was sat in the room at the Yankee Clipper overlooking the beach, popping off to Chucks Steakhouse and taking the water taxi to Las Olas, not to mention the cheap cruises!
