Need Help Finding Rod And Main Bearings 98 Ls 400
steve2006 replied to Harbison's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Why are you replacing a single con rod ? Price from Lexus (probably the only place to buy one) works out around $200.00 including the shell bearings. Part number 13201-50030 -
There should be a tutorial on www.lexls.com for the caps and rotor replacement.

So you have actually paid all that cash out to a garage at highly inflated prices (they ripped you off BTW) and now you need to take it to Lexus becaused they messed it up?

Minimum To Remove To Inspect Timing Belt ('99 Ls400)
steve2006 replied to dthouston's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
At least one of the top timing covers needs to come off to see any of the belt, sounds like one of your camshaft oil seals has failed, best to replace sooner rather than later. The tutorial below will help. http://www.shastaanesthesia.com/Lexus/Page1.html -
A single cylinder misfire is unusual as each distributor feeds 4 cylinders (2 on each bank). One cylinder down wouldn't cause extremely rough idling. I would check both coils as these are known for failure especially the driver's side one.

How To Change Front Passenger Caliper Bottom Bolt Ls400 1997?
steve2006 replied to Flyguy75's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
The Torx bolts you are attempting to remove actually hold the 2 parts of the piston chambers together and should never be removed. As Johnny 123 mentions the calipers are actually secured to the carrier bracket with 2 17mm bolts, one top one bottom. It is slightly worrying that you are working on a car's braking system without a manual, a reasonable knowledge of vehicle repair techniques, parts description and without the correct tools. Why are you replacing the caliper? Do you know how to bleed a braking system? Do you know which type of grease to use and where to put it? If the answer to the last 2 questions is no, take it to someone who does and pay them to do it :) I hope the car is not supported just on the factory jack or a pile of house bricks. -
If the rims are new you could have stick on balance weight strips fitted, they go behind the rim face so are hidden and don't show. Also low profile so tend to clear calipers. Not recommended for old or corroded rims as they tend to come off.

Radio backlight fix detailed on link below. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/495308-fixing-stereo-backlight-95-not-just-bulbs.html

C6 is the only one located in the backlight invertor area, I have seen this particular capacitor with a bulging shell indicating overheating/high ESR. No guarantees it will fix the problem but worth replacing to see for a few cents, just make sure you buy a branded make with a 105 degree rating.

Because this topic relates to the 93-94 cluster problems not the 90-92 :) On the 90-91 cluster check out C6 220UF/25V on the top PCB,it is located just above the white 3 plug (CNU) and between the 2 transformers

94 Ls400 Only Idles After Starter Change
steve2006 replied to dsls400's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
You've probably fitted the TPS incorrectly so the pin doesn't lne up with the butterfly shaft assuming the throttle cable is connected. -
Good point Landar, could also be worth checking the motor and transmission mounts as they do break up. Also have a look at the tutorials on www.lexls.com which I find very helpful.

1) Check wheel balance. 2) Also consider Sewell/Park Lane Lexus for discounted parts. 3) Also replace water pump while changing cam belt and cam seals. 4)Check all suspension components but only replace what needs doing, bushing kits are available instead of replacing the whole component.

Need Help Guys ! Please Spare Some Minutes ...
steve2006 replied to shahid444's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Did you reset your engine ECU by pulling out the EFI fuse and leaving it out for a few minutes before refitting By replacing components and especially cleaning the TB the engine settings will have to be relearned by the ECU. Once you have done this the car ECU should will relearn as you drive. -
I thought the power steering pump on the later VVTI LS had been relocated away from the alternator?

Front Bumper On 98 Ls 400 Needs Replacing.
steve2006 replied to girlwlxus's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
I purchased a 10m roll of the trim and got the body shop who did the repairs to fit it. I did replace the trim on another LS400 myself and after removing the old trim I wiped the channel with iso alcohol to remove any remaining adhesive then warmed the trim with a hairdrier to make it more pliable. Started at one end and worked around the bumper peeling the backing off as I went, trimmed the ends and job done.- 6 replies

Front Bumper On 98 Ls 400 Needs Replacing.
steve2006 replied to girlwlxus's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
This may help. For the chrome trim you can buy a roll of universal self adhesive for a few $$$ I think it is 12mm something like this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/15M-12mm-Car-Auto-Chrome-DIY-Moulding-Trim-Strip-For-Window-Bumper-Grille-Silver-/190885329574?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c71a6faa6&vxp=mtr- 6 replies

As you mention the EFI relay pull in coil is supplied with 12 volts from pin 13 of the engine ECU so you need to check for this with the ignition on at that pin on the ECU then if present check for the same voltage at pin 1 of the EFI relay, no voltage here would indicate a break in the wiring between the 2 points. If the 12 volts is present on pin 1 then check if pin 3 of the EFI relay is connected to ground as if the ground is not connected the circuit will not be completed and the relay will not operate.
