  1. Thanks, I think that's the same seller I was considering, except I found a listing for $175 w/free shipping (same total, yes, but this matters if I end up needing a refund; usually original shipping is deducted from the refunded amount). Both those prices are way over what I would expect to pay a boneyard or someone parting out, though. *sigh*
  2. I need to replace my passenger side (RH) headlight !Removed!'y on my 96 LS400 due to a badly cracked lens. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding any boneyards in MA with LS400s or anyone parting out a 95-97 anywhere right now, and I really don't want to spend $175+ for an aftermarket replacement. I have the chance to buy a used one for $140 (still way more than I was really looking to spend) but a tab is broken per the description. How critical will this broken tab be once the !Removed!'y is secured in place with the other bolts etc? Any firsthand experience appreciated. I'd just as soon break down and drop the $175 if it will be a big deal down the road, since I have to renew my inspection sticker ASAP. :( TIA
  3. Hi, Need a RH headlight !Removed!'y for a 95/96/97 LS400 ASAP. Sadly I'm only seeing '91-94s everywhere I look... :( Willing to pickup or pay shipping to Boston area (02139) as well. For fastest response, email direct to aewing [at] gmail *dot* com Thx in advance.
  4. On my 96 LS400 I'm missing one cover on my factory 16" rims (standard silver clearcoat not chrome, with chrome not gold logo). According to the local dealer, the part number is "42603-50060" and would need to be special ordered about $75 apiece. Is there a better source for these, or a compatible range of models/model years in the Lexus line which would work? eBay and even Google have absolutely zero meaningful results for this p/n. But eBay does have some which look similar but I'm worried won't fit. Thx
  5. Same experience. For me to get it to work I had to keep a brisk pace. No 10sec beep either.
  6. Technically any car can drive any distance... all depends on how much you're willing to spend ;) This topic invariably shows up on every car model's dedicated forum. Now, original drivetrain? That's a different story.
  7. That's too bad, I just dislike the idea of having two fobs (factory keyless entry + aftermarket auto start) for one key. Not a complete dealbreaker though... Anyways I just scored a used HYQWDT-C fob for under $35 shipped on eBay... not half bad. Should be here next week. Was gonna hold out and see if I could scoop one for under $30, but fumbling with my keys then playing the jiggle game (I guess my key blades are worn) during a Boston ice storm is getting old quick. :-)
  8. There's a much more recently active thread which suggests checking the heater control valve for a stuck halfway open condition. That's what I'm checking on my 96 next, once I get time (and the New England cold subsides just a bit... btw, no way that sensor placement is playing a role when its 10F outside pre-windchill).
  9. I guess the most important thing is to get a quiet tire with good tread life that is cheap. I just don't want it to get me killed in the rain! again, that's asking a lot, especially for that price range. i've had good experience with the Yokohama AVID V4s and YK500 (or the like), as well as the General Exclaim UHP (not sure if it's available in OEM sizing, i had it on my old 18"s) On my old 525i I ran H-rated Toyo Proxes TPTs and really enjoyed them. Weren't terribly loud, good grip, and had something like a 60k mi treadwear guarantee... It was something like $110 mounted per corner including free front end alignment and lifetime road hazard protection/rotations/snow tire swaps. Might have been less, don't really remember as it was around 04 or so. When I need tires on my new-to-me 96 LS400 I'd buy TPTs again.
  10. My new-to-me 96 LS400 with 171k does the same thing. Idles at 1200 in cold Boston mornings, and gradually goes down once warm. As long as it's not a hunting (erratic) idle, I'm not worried. Because of this I actually start driving a little sooner than usual after starting... if it's gonna sit at 1200 no matter what, I might as well start power-rolling through the side-streets in the general direction of my destination :D
  11. I also will look for this... having the same problem on my 96 LS400 and coolant level was quite full, so heater control valve check will be next... stay tuned...
  12. Thx for the suggestion. I'm not adamantly against a separate fob at all, but I'd rather have a built in remote key if both were available as factory options. Since I'm not looking for an aftermarket solution, looks like the separate fob is the way to go... just gotta wait foor a reasonably priced HYQWDT-C to pop up on eBay. Thanks again :)
  13. Thanks... to be clear, that means there was never an alternate option for a built-in remote key instead of the standard issue fob that year?
  14. Just bought a 96 LS400 (1st time owner). I only received what I believe to be a single master non-remote key (the head is wider at the keyring end, and tapers slightly toward the blade end... opens trunk). No separate remote fobs, no remote key with built in buttons... thus no means of controlling remote entry. Can someone confirm whether a factory remote key was available for 1996 LS models, and if so, point me to a photo (or better, an inexpensive alternate source to the dealer)? Thx
  15. Will the magazine cartridge from my BMW 525i's disc changer (rebadged Pioneer CDX-M30) be compatible with the glovebox-mounted unit in a '96 LS 400? Assuming it's a Pioneer and not Nakamichi of course. Thanks...
