  1. Hi, There is a switch on the end of the lock barrel which has been known to give trouble with its contacts, sometimes a spray with the "switch cleaner" ( we call it "Servisol" in the UK) will do the trick but you will have to remove the door trim to get to it ( tutorial on removal on www.lexls.com)
  2. This should help you http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_1996_LEXU...EPGKA_8101.html
  3. Hi, The following link gives the exploded view of the shift system but you will probably need the factory manual to check the alignment. http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_1994_LEXU...EPGKA_3312.html
  4. Hi, Welcome to the LOC, 1st thing I would do is have the transmission diagnostic codes read and go from there. Any autoshop with an OBDII code reader should be able to do this it doesn't have to be Lexus.
  5. I have somewhere for the Pioneer changer will have alook for it asap.
  6. I seem to remember reading somewhere it was caused by the lubricating oil on the spindles and carefully removing the excess sorted the problem.
  7. Hi, Sounds like you have a really strange fault there. You say the TPS has been tested and set up correctly but has your mechanic looked at the live data on an oscilloscope to ensure the voltage output is steady with no glitches indicating a "noisy track" If you ever had an old radio at home you may have noticed the volume control sometimes produces a crackling noise when adjusted due to a worn electrical track within the control, the operation of the TPS is very similar and it can suffer from the same problem. I believe there is also a microswitch within the TPS which should only close at idle speed this could also be acting up. Thinking about it 55MPH is that not the cruising speed on your freeways and therefore the TPS will be the most worn on the track that corresponds to that speed. It may be worth replacing it if this check cannot be performed. Does the problem occur at 55MPH whichever gear you are in i.e. 55MPH in 3rd and 55MPH in overdrive? Have you had the fuel pressure checked? Is the fuel filter ready for a replacement? A long shot here but have you checked all the engine bay earth connections as loose and/or corroded ones can cause some very strange faults and finally the old chestnut the trunk hinge wiring loom this causes a lot of problems and even though I haven't heard of it causing your fault it may be worth checking.
  8. True recommended at 100,000 KM or 7 years whichever comes 1st. It's not so much the mileage in your case but how many start ups you do,how you drive the car and the fact that the cambelt material deteriorates over time. Put it this way a cambelt job is a lot less than a wrecked engine if it does break.
  9. It all depends on what type of installation you are looking for. If you just want to convert to a single DIN radio/cd player you can buy the necessary mounting conversion kits off ebay.com for around $15.00. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksi...-All-Categories This will give you 4 channels ( 2 front 2 rear) but no subwoofer drive, to get the sub operational will require another separate amplifier. You cannot connect the existing trunk mounted CD changer to an after market system as the are dedicated units. If you plan to do the job yourself you will need to have some degree of electronic knowledge. This is my install with the 2nd picture showing the sub amp mounted where the original CD changer was located.
  10. According to the information I have there is only one engine block drain !Removed! on this engine. Have a look on the link below for location. http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_2001_LEXU...EAGKK_1105.html
  11. I have the same model but 1994 year, look at the boot hinge wiring as suggested as this causes many problems, where abouts are you in the UK/ as I am also on the UK forum
  12. Hi, Did you disconnect the battery before pulling the dash out?Check fuse # 7 in the driver's side footwell fuse box top row middle fuse rated at 10A.
  13. Sorry not seen this problem before I guess you could try spraying some lube ( WD40 in UK) with an extension nozzle behind the mirror to see if it frees off. Here is a link to the exploded mirror diagram which may help if you have to take it apart. http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_2004_LEXU...ETGKA_8701.html
  14. I assume you have looked on Ebay.com but if you cannot find any there are some in the UK which I could buy for you and send over if you are really stuck getting one. Found this one on Ebay.com item # 320404117890
  15. Use only the recommended Lexus/Toyota Coolant and mix 50/50 with purified or distilled water only. Using the incorrect type of coolant and/or normal tap water can cause corrosion problems in aluminium engines. Here's a starter link but you should be able to buy locally over the counter. http://www.drivewire.com/vehicle/lexus-ls4...ant-antifreeze/ I wish I lived in F.Lauderdale, forever warm, so many cheap $500 cruises!!!, Chucks Steakbar and Las Olas on the water taxi. Fancy an exchange visit to the UK? lol Sorry here's the tutorial http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/cooling/coolant.html
  16. Have you had the battery tested? as this causes all sorts of weird problems when it is on its way out.
  17. That's a new one to me. Have you had a look in the handbook because what springs to mind is this may be a dealer option setting for say a chauffeur driven car where the guy in the back wants control of the audio without driver intervention. Maybe the electronics have glitched and caused this to happen. Other than this maybe a trip to the dealer to ask. Finally welcome to the LOC.
  18. I run mine on fully synthetic 5w-30 Texaco Havoline mainly because it's only around $20.00 for 5 litres from a UK supermarket chain. Having said that it has only done 60,000 miles from new. As for the oil leak it sounds from the position as if it could be the sump plug did you replace the copper washer on it when the oil was changed?
  19. ADD FLUID TO THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT! Exactly my sentiments but being a Brit I have to be polite :D
  20. A little late now the damage is done but leather feed treatment in the past would have helped and a lot of damage occurs with wedding rings catching the leather. There are specialists who can recover them but not cheaply.
  21. Low brake fluid or worn out brake pads
  22. Hi Welcome to the LOC Here goes with the answers "The parking brake comes on occasionally" Do you mean the brake physically comes on or the warning light comes on? The CD player says "err" even after running a Maxwell CD cleaner through the disc changer in disc slot #1 The trunk mounted CD player cartridge must have the CDs load with the playing side up label side down in the cart slots. There is a brake light that does not light up but is not burned out on the upper left hand side, and it is indicated on the dash. Check the wiring and bulb holder. The A/C screens that would display time, etc, do not work anymore. Very common it will be blacked out, do a search on here for LCD or Ebay.com They can be repaired for around $200.00 I think or if you are ok with electronics you can buy the display and fit yourself. A very small oil leak when the car is parked. Never any smoke, and it doesn't leak unless you drive the car and then park it. Is it oil, tranny fluid or power steering fluid a location from where it is leaking would help. Again it's not water from the air con is it? All in all nothing too major enjoy your new ride :D
  23. Check the battery terminals 1st. Then check the wiring loom along the left trunk hinge as this causes a multitude of problems ( there are plenty of topics on this)
  24. You have replaced the various sensors but have you checked the connectors and the wiring to them? A common problem when replacing the cam belt is the wiring to the cam sensors is not refitted correctly and the wiring can come into contact with the belts ( timing and/or auxillary), a similar thing can happen with the crank angle sensor. So have a good look at the wiring to these components it may just be this and will save you $$$ in buying parts you dont need.
