  1. If someone prefers the privacy of not putting them online it's okay with me. Privacy is important to all of us to varied degrees. Try typing JUST your phone number into Google. (ex. 757-555-1212) and if you have your number listed Bada Bing! you can have your complete address, and a map to your house. Oh yeah, even a satelitte image of your neighborhood. The trick is not to list your address, just your name. The phone company does that for free (at least Verizon does). Denny
  2. Nothing like a V-8 boys. I think an SC with the V-8 would be the cat's class. Do they come with a stick?
  3. Syracuse 2 weeks ago it was $2.37 (87) Las Vegas last week I saw a range from $2.40 - $2.87 for 87. The $2.87 for 87 had $3.09 listed for 93 but it was in a touristy area. Back in Caldwell it was $2.27 Here in VB it is $2.29 today I think they are giving us a little breather. But, we better watch out for Round 5.
  4. This should help, I looked up some old notes I kept with the part number. I have pictures somewhere but have switched computers since I did them and can't find it right now. <http://www.cureline.net/lex/howtos/gfx/howto_hood_shocks_01.jpg> First of all you need the right set of shocks. You can find them in AutoZone . www.autozone.com MIGHTY-LIFT LIFT - HATCH/HOOD/TRUNK Unit Price: $15.99 Core Value*: $0.00 Part No.: C95029 Weight: 0.00 lbs. Warranty: LLT Availability: Online: Ships within 2 business days Store: Not Available. Check your local AutoZone since they might have it in stock (although their computer will tell you they they don't).
  5. Scott... What is that giant tube coming out of the middle of the back of the car in your picture?
  6. I posted picture on the original picture site, might be gone now. I have pictures on how I replaced mine using the autozone struts. Replaced them 2 years ago and they still work great. Under $40 total and an hours work. vbdenny@myway.com and I'll send them if I can find them.
  7. They also have them on partstrain.com, I think around $79
  8. Since I rarely floor the car it really makes no difference where the button is. After driving my Nissan pickup 4cyl, the Lexus seems like it is a rocketship no matter where the button is. I do like the lloks of the PWR light on the dash so I usually leave it on. The OTHER power button on 90's is under the accelerator pedal, and when clicked on, you go to wide open throttle (WOT). which takes you to redline with each shift.
  9. The rule I follow is that I stay in the right lane as much as possible. If I see someone coming up behind me faster (which isn't often), I'll even cut back to get behind someone to let them go by. It is called courtesy and then I don't have to worry about people with guns. Stay out of the left lane and stay out of trouble. The other reason is that about 90% of all speeding tickets on Interstates are written to people in the left lane.
  10. I bite the bullet and buy factory stock pads only, I know what you mean about dust issues and it isn't worth it to me to use aftermarket. I put new pads on my mothers Camry last week, $56 at the dealer for pads. 45 minutes to drive and get the pads, 25 minutes install. Toyotas are great to work on.
  11. The coolant used by Lexus is a rather nasty looking color brown even when new, I'm not sure why they did that. If you start the car when it is COLD and leave the radiator cap off, you will see when the thermostat opens and the flow begins. If it never does, you might consider water pump issues. But, it sounds more like a sticking thermostat to me since the Lexus cooling components are pretty dependable. That isn't much money to make it worth changing before drawing conclusions. Good luck and keep cool.
  12. Radial tires all wobble at slow speeds because of the radial belts. Some are worse then others though. I use about 35psi in mine and it seems to work pretty good.
  13. Go out and night and start the car. Look under the hood at the spark plug wires. If they arc, you have a problem, sometimes you can even hear it. I'd take obergs advice first as he has a pretty good handle on these cars.
  14. I don't much care the the political interjection. This is one of the few places where people can still talk and agree and I attribute that to lack of politics here. Try Iwon for that stuff.
  15. The wheels look especially nice with the black. Hey Cool, how do you remove the parking light covers. I like the clear much better and will probably do that. Save me some time and tell me how they come off. Thanks Denny
  16. I replace the battery in my LS with one from COSTCO. I measured the battery and took note of where the terminals were positioned and picked out one that fit. About $50. 850 CCA.
  17. If you want something special, you can get a K&N oil filter for about $11.88.
  18. There is probably a resistor which controls the speed. My Chevy did the same thing and when I took out the resistor unit, I saw the coils, one of the coils had broken and was touching the other. You won't probably get an error code from this. Sorry, but I have no idea where it might be located on the LS or if it even works that way.
  19. After you drive it a while, put your hand on the rear wheels and feel if they are really hot. Compare each wheel temperature, they shouldn't be red hot. Probably a caliper hanging up, happened to me. I replaced it for under $100, easy job. I can tell you how if you want.
  20. This is what caught my attention. Your statement was When I got home, the passenger side catalytic converter was bright red and smoking! Maybe in 1992 they had two catalytic converters but my 1990 only has one? The pipes break into duals after the cat.
  21. The MXV4+ are lousy tires. When I bought the Corolla for my daughter I was happy that it had them on it. That has changed because they handle terrible in anything but dry roads. I am almost ready to put the snow tires back on. I also have Michelins on my Caprice, X-Plus 1 tires and they are fantastic, probably the best tires I have ever owned and this is the second set on this car. They are cooked now with almost 70,000 miles on them and I think they will still pass inspection without any problem. SInce that expired at the end of June while I was in NC, I will report back. So here is what I think and my brother said he has heard. OEM tires are contract tires and usually poor whatever brand they happen to say.
  22. DRL's usually are the high beams at half power. I have no idea how that is done.
  23. I have never lost a minutes sleep worrying about a dealer not making a profit. One of my best friends fixes swimming pools and does several dealers home pools. They are not uncomfortable in the least. They say "Their ad is our ad" They SHOULD say "your money is our money" Lexus service is very overpriced, but they get it. Lexus parts are way overpriced, but again they get it. The worst part of owning a Lexus, is Lexus dealers.
  24. I bought regular gas for my Corolla three days ago on Rt 36 going to Sandy Hook NJ for $1.93. In Caldwell today I paid $2.37 for gas for the LS400, and #2.11 for regular for the Corolla. I has dinner with my brother-in-law tonight who runs a NYC yellow cab. He said he paid $2.73 for premium in Manhatten today. Don't worry, it will never get over $3.00 a gallon (this year).
  25. I was driving around Newark yesterday, lost in the ghetto, and I saw all the big ballons at the Shell stations talking a V power. Hey look at us, we have ballons and Super Shell V-power gas for only $2.37 a gallon. Wow, whup-T-do. Just a marketing ploy in my opinion.
