  1. Hey Blake, man I gotta say your car is waxed to the hilt. I ssee what you mean about the way the sun hits it. The statement made about it raising your insurance isn't true as it is a equipment infraction not a moving violation. I am not much in favor of heavy tints because A) I think they give your car a little too much of an urban look, and B) I think they are very dangerous for police officers. I sure would not want to be a cop and have to walk up to a car with blacked out windows. The job they do is dangerous enough without tints. Hopefully sooner or later someone will come up with a method to have your cars windows tint down to 2% when parked and then up to a respectable level when running. I am not even sure how they tint windows but I believe it is some kind of film applied to the inside of windows that can scratch.
  2. I MUST be from the old school then because I knew what a Bendix was. I was suprized you had not heard that Sk. When it's cold, the starter tends to hang engaged for awhile on my Lexus before disengaging. I don't like it, not at all.
  3. Thanks for the kind words 90. Yeah, it is something you never forget but just have to live with. My father was on I-81 heading north and someone heading south lost control and jumped a 20 ft medium and landed on the hood of his car. He never knew what hit him. Glad to hear your 90 will still be operative. If she plans to drive it until the wheels fall off she may have a problem. Wheels don't seem to fall off an LS. I'll bet you still miss the car in many ways. If you are anything like me you get just as attached to your cars as you do to your pets.
  4. I think you got a great deal. Can't go wrong with a Lexus
  5. automatic bleeping now, aren't we PC!
  6. I didn't know you could check window tints at night? My windows aren't tinted except for factory. Tint *BLEEP*es cops off whichcause them to bother you more about any little thing. You were lucky with the seatbelt thing, around here they will write that no matter what. My wife got stopped in "checkpoint charlie" coming off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and they didn't write her for a 3 month out of date inspection or not being able to find the registration (I hid it in the glove compartment). They were out to Dwi someone I guess.
  7. Sounds like either the heater core has a leak or your windshiled has a leak. When a heater core starts leaking the first thing you notice is condensation on the glass, then it gets worse. Windshiled leaks usually appear under floor mats.
  8. I have always found Good Year tires to be well good. They just wear out faster than some of the others. I have had Michelins last three times as long as Good Years and not square up on me.
  9. It will be great. I've been to Dover a few times when my buddies and I rented a big ole class A motorhome. I have also been to Richmond several times, Watkins Glen a couple times and Pocono once (the first race there). It is a blast. Last year I went to Lowe's in Concord (Charolotte) and did the Richard Petty Driving Experience which was just about the coolest thing I have ever done. I don't really have a favorite driver because they are all really cool. I guess it would have to be Ryan Newman, Dale Jr. Rusty, Michael Waltrip, Tony Stewart, Mark Martin, and Jamie McMurray if I had to choose. Nicest people on earth attend Cup races.
  10. I sold real estate for 5 years and really liked it. The biggest problem is that it involves a great deal of work nights and weekends. I did fairly well until the oil prices dropped in the early 80's and I was selling in Tulsa. Luckily my wife got a good job back in Norfolk so we moved back and I went back to teaching. I teach what use to be called shop and it is great except for the money, but since my wife has a good job that isn't that much of an issue for me. I found real estate to be all about who you know. Contacts are everything, if you have them and any sense (which you obviously do) you will do great.
  11. Your 250 looks great. I have seen a couple around here but not many. I saw two in the U Wrench It junkyard last year with most of their parts, but they were gone the next time I went as they rotate out rows after a month. Anyway, keep up the good work, nice looking engine compartment too!
  12. I can't speak for the 400 but I know most cars have a vacuum or electric cutoff to stop the flow of heated water to the heater core. This is activated when you turn on the AC sothe heat doesn't mix with the cold air (in summer). I had a Buick that it went bad in the winter in Syracuse and eventually I had NO heat. Just something else to check
  13. I just put Silverstarts in our Lexus. Very nice illumination.
  14. I think the fuel pump is electric. If you arc welded it you might also have damaged it with electocal current. What brave soul welded it? That is so dangerous, a friend of mine tried to weld his jeep gastank and it blew him across the yard and made the tank look like a bubble. He was luckly not to have been hurt or killed.
  15. Yeah I should have mentioned the Yokohama Avids. They had a great review on tirerack. Probably what I will buy next. 215/60-15
  16. I found this question on the UK LOC site. Maybe you could email the poster and see if they found anything out. Sometime I think Lexus ought to put a light on the dash that is green and shaped like a dollar sign. Donalex Nov 7 2004, 10:30 AM Post #1 New Club Member Group: Members Posts: 1 Joined: 7-November 04 Member No.: 8043 Location:Warsash, England Lexus Model:LS400 I have an early LS 400 (1991) fitted with a 3 speed plus overdrive transmission. A few miles into any trip I get the amber O/D light flashing slowly. The main dealer refuses to tell me what this indicates. Can anyone out there with a workshop manual advise what this little amber light is trying to tell me please? Thanks in advance, Don Alexander Warsash, England http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=17728
  17. I found this on experts.about.com. Sound like something that supports the drive shaft? Lexus Repair: 1996 Lexus LS 400... What is a rear carrier bushing? ... As far as the bushing they may be talking about the lower knuckle bushing for the strut rod. It is a comon repair. ... experts.about.com/q/818/3634283.htm - 15k Topic: Lexus Repair -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Expert:Zak Saenz Date:7/23/2004 Subject:1996 Lexus LS 400 Question When should the timing chain of my 96 LS 400 be replaced? Reality vs. Dealer trying to sell me a repair? What is a rear carrier bushing? Answer Hello Brian, 1996 is the first year Lexus changed from 60k miles to 90k miles on timing belts. So if you are at 90k then it should be done. As far as the bushing they may be talking about the lower knuckle bushing for the strut rod. It is a comon repair.
  18. I wouldn't buy them from the dealer. Look on tirerack.com There are reviews from people who have bought various tires so you can make an educated decision. I would suggest you look at H or T rated tires instead of the V rated that were standard. Unless you plan to drive over 130mph, the H are fine, The T tires are rated to 119mph which is fast enough for most people. You will sacrifice some high performance handling but gain in ride comfort. I have T rated on my Lexus and they have been pretty good. They are Goodyear Aquatred III's which were a little noisy when new but are rather nice now. Lot's of choices on tirerack, very good prices, lightning fast delivery.
  19. So how fast do people (and semi's) go on this thing. In gravel and washboard it must only be about 35mph or so?
  20. I just went through all that with my old computer. It happened when I tried to install the Norton System Works 2005. All kinds of errors which were Greek to me. I finally threw the software in the closet and bought a new computer with McAfee installed and guess what?..... it works! I was VERY disappointed with Norton stuff especially since they charge you about $30 just to talk to someone. If you are using XP and have a restore point, this might be the time to use it. For free spyware software, use Ad Aware from Lavasoft.com It works great and is free. I use Webroot Spy Sweeper which is about $30 and am very pleased.
  21. Once they go to a hybrid and jack up the mpg's they will really take off!
  22. What is it, gravel or rocks or something? Probably a handful to drive on if that is the case. There is a lot of military around here and quite a few Alaska plates. I've talked to a couple and they all said they broke a windshield. The gas prices you described just about gassed me!
  23. I've used both. Carnuba outlasts synthetics and then I don't have to wax as often. I think it looks great on my pearl white, and it has incredible depth (in my opinion of course).
  24. I grew up in Syracuse and here is how people I knew took care of their good cars. They bought a "winter rat" which was a cheap used car. My brother uses a 96 Saab he picked up for $2500. A set of Blizzax tires and he is ready to go. The thing has about 185,000 miles on it, but it looks and runs good. You run you rat all winter then clean it up and sell it in the spring. We were always good at detailing cars, so we usually made money. Sorry, but the ONLY way to protect your car from salt is to keep it in the garage all winter.
  25. I can't speak for other years but there was a recall on the high mounted brake lights on the 90's and maybe other years. The ONLY Lexus recall I could find
