  1. I think you can press the off button but it might still run on low as it help air circulation in the car.
  2. Oh yeah, where do you suggest I get one and is any brand any better than the others?
  3. The two problems (smoke and surge) may be related but might not be. The white smoke you see is most likely power steering fluid getting sucked in. It does give a funky smell but I wouldn't describe it as plastic. I have had plastic bags get stuck to the exhaust and smell before so that issue might be a fluke. As to the surge, something like that is often caused by a vacuum leak. The most likely place I would look considering the twin problems, is the hoses connected to the power steering pump. When the hoses get old they get as hard as a rock and can often leak.
  4. Hey LS'ers I probably should change the serpentine belt on my 90 LS400 since inspection is due this month and it has a few small cracks. I have had them fail cars before for this so I figured I would go ahead and change it. Save me some time and give me the scoop on how to do this. I appreciate the help. Denny
  5. my PS leaks sometimes and I was just reading up on this topic. Check this link http://planetsoarer.com/Power%20steering%20pump.htm
  6. That is a lot of oil to lose in such a short amount of time. When you determine the cause, please let us know. Sorry I can't help you with the leak.
  7. What kind of milage is on the car?
  8. Hey NOSLOW That was an excellent post, With great interest, I read the Lexus generations post. Thanks for sharing that.
  9. I need a foglight bulb for my 90 LS. No aftermarket auto parts stores have them. Toyota dealers don't carry them and neither of the two Lexus dealers I have been to stock them. Special order part $23 each. Any suggestions on where I can get one without doing the special order?
  10. I guess the right way to do this job is to whip over to your local Lexus dealer and have a hot cup of coffee while leaning at a 45 degree angle. I assume AutoZone doesn't rent a Toyota Pulley isolation tool and I know Lexus won't rent or lend it to you. SO how much does a dealer charge to do this job?
  11. I guess I am guilty of speeding however, I speed reasonably. I might go up to 90 between packs on an Interstate but I always slow down and usually try to pass people at no more than 10mph above their speed. I think it is very dangerous to pass people at a high rate of speed although I do speed, I prefer to do so in a safe manner. Usually if the speed limit is 55, I keep it below 75 and if it is 65 I keep it at 78. Most police are reasonable and won't write you up for less than 80 in a 65 as long as you are not driving stupid. The speed limits are set far too low for most travel on Interstates which is done to raise revenue. As a rule I never exceed city speed limits by more than 5mph. What we need is a Presidential candidate who advocates increasing the speed limits on rural Interstates. The problem is that out CS legislators are all hooked up with the insurance companies who are the biggest group promoting unreasonable speed limits since they make a fortune off of people getting tickets. The true cure would be legislative action which ain't gonna happen.

    Road Rage

I rarely get road rage because it does nothing to help and causes a dramitic rise in my blood pressure. A couple of things do trigger me though. The main thing is idiots driving slow in the left lane when they have every opportunity to get over. Other things include morons who sit back five car lengths at traffic lights then move at a snails pace so everyone behind them misses the light. As far as handicapped parking goes, it seems that just about anyone can now get one. The worst are people who have them because they have eaten themselves into a state of fatness and they can no longer walk. Meanwhile, I'll try to remain calm.
  13. My guess is that your check engine light came on because you didn't get the gas cap tightened enough. That happens in about any newer car.
  14. I also used the Autozone shocks. I tyhink if you do a search there is several detailed explainations describing this job. I know it took me about an hour.
  15. Last week I bought a silver 2004 ES330 with 23,000 miles for $22,900
  16. the transmission issue could be related to the wire in the trunk hinge being broken. I have had to repair mine twice.
  17. I was in NJ (north) over Thanksgiving and yeah it got cold. Not sure how full your gas tank was but as humid and warm as it was before switching to cold can cause quite a bit of condensation in your gas tank if the tank is low. I always make a point of keeping the tank full when the weather does that. I wouldn't run any higher octane than what is required. Not sure what is required but I haven't put any gas in the ES I just bought. Higher octane gasoline burns slower to compensate for the higher compression of engines requiring premium. In other cars it just make them start harder, and get worse fuel milage.
  18. I believe it is listed in the owners manual.
  19. As far as your car losing the memory, when the battery goes dead you probably need to reprogram the memory.
  20. I just bought one of these with the memory seats but have yet to figure out how to set them. Guess I need to read the manual
  21. I will have to check my manual, never noticed that
  22. So much for my spelling. I ought to know which "two" is 2
  23. Hey, that engine doesn't look two bad. I prescribe several rags, some WD40, a healthy does of elbow grease and a six-pack of your favorite cold beverage. It takes awhile but you just get more satisfaction from doing it the right way. I'll try the picture thing if I get a chance.
  24. Mine sits just a tick or two below 1/2 and has never moved in either freezing winter or heat of summer.
