96 Es300 Wont Start After Timing Belt Change
VBdenny replied to benny's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
The timing belt was obvioulsy installed incorrectly. Even one notch off will casue the car to exhibit the symtoms you described. That is unless you are a dedicated beliver in coincidence that is. -
Unless you REALLY need the sound, you are crazy to cut into the factory stainless steel exhaust. Unless you are willing to spent the big bucks for a new stainless steel Flowmaster exhaust, I would discard the idea.

90,000 Mile Service At Toyota Dealer?
VBdenny replied to coolwater's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
The local Lexus dealer quoted me $2700 to repair my A/C. My local Honda dealer fixed it for $350. Go figure. -
I will probably vote for Hillary as she is by far better qualified to run the country than what we have had. Although I consider myself conservative, it is from a finacial conservative view, and not for all the religious reasons. After Mr. Bush Jr spent us into the poorhouse we need the Clintons back to establish some finacial restraints on these no-bid contract company, like Mr. Cheney's. Nixon might not have really been a crook, but Bush & Cheney certainly seem to be. They, and all their friends will retire rich on our tab.

Merry Christmas to all. Mayybe if it is nice on Christmas I'll have to take the LS out for a little cruise.

Another good place to find Lexus cars for sale is craigslist. I know they have a local one in Essex county since I live there part of the time.

Ls400 Windshield Wiper Makes Click Sound
VBdenny replied to MikeyLS400's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
The Bosch Icon blades are fantastic. I have them on all my vehicles. -
I have never put brake pads on an LS430 but I have put them on my 400. Piece of cake. Order factory pads from irontoad.com. Mine came directly from a Lexus dealer in Penna at half the cost. Still, factory pads are expensive but well worth the price. Lexus made it very easy and the hardest part is often removing the wheel. For that, use a pipe over your lug wrench.

The OTHER thing the BRAKE light indicates is that your brake fluid in the master cylinder is low. Hopefully you already checked that.

Tires are the single most important factor in the handling of your car. I usually use Yokohama Avid V4's which i have on my 04 ES330 and my 99 Corolla. BUT, Yokohama does not offer a 225/60-R15 V tire so I bought BFG Traction T/A V's for my 90. A very nice tire at a reasonable price through Tirerack. No sale tax either.

My 90 consistantly gets around 18 in city and 25 on highway and I don't poke along. On my last trip two weeks ago I averaged 25.4mpg and I was doing 80-85 much of the time. There are a few things you can do to improve your fuel economy. As mentioned previosuly, keep your tires inflated. I use 34lbs. Other things I do include using a K&N air filter, synthetic fuel and occasionaly a bottle of Valvoline complet fuel system cleaner. If your economy has dropped off that much you may have some other issue which should be investigated. Finally, one big reason gas milage has dropped across the board is the use of alcohol in our fuel. Alcohol does not give nearly as much energy as gasoline. The other reason is the use of oxygenated fuels in many urban and northern areas which further reduces economy. The government got us, then got us again. I filled up the other day at Texaco and Premium was $2.99 per gallon.

I'd rather have my 1990 LS400 than a 2008 Ford Taurus.

I run BFG Traction T/A V's on my 400. Only driven a couple of times in any snow with them but they get pretty good traction. My car doesn't have TC but it does have a wicked positraction. Growing up near Lake Ontario where we often received over 480" of snow a winter, I learned to enjoy psotraction in snow. Sure it makes the back end get squirilly when you get on it, but it does dig in. I think positraction in snow can definitely scare those who are unfamiliar with winter driving but once learn it, it is a blast.

man, I meant coach edition.. Time for bed, enough football for me.

The couch edition 1997 LS400 is a pretty rare car. That was an option that was done by the same people that make those expensive purses women love. Had to laugh when I read your post though. I bought my wife a 04 ES330 and sure enough, she said she still like the 90 LS400 better. She isn't getting the 90 of course, it is mine!

My 1990 LS gets around 18 MPG in city and slightly over 25MPG highway traveling between 60-85MPH. I use Mobil 1 which I think helps, a K&N air filter which does help and keep 34lbs air pressure in my BFG Traction T/A V 225/60VR-15 tires. If it was a lot worse, I probably would still drive the car. I paid $3.03 for Premium this week at Texaco.

I would not be happy. It certainly sounds as if Goodyear screwed up. I would suspect that they either adjusted something way incorrectly, or more likely, left something loose. Take it back to Goodyear and raise hell.

Make sure your parking brake is fully released. I have had mine stick enough to keep the light on. The other indicator is that a tail or brake light is out.

Buying A 91' Ls400 .... Soon To Be A Ls400 Owner Again...
VBdenny replied to 90LS400Lexus's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
yeah, you can't go changing your name now. Hey, you will get a lot of enjoyment out of the new car. I have mine backed into the garage since I was just changing a tailight bulb. AT least I thought it was thebulb since one brake light didin't illuminat all the time and my dash indicator was on. Turns out one of the contacts in the socket was lower than the other and not making contact. I thought about what to do and tried popping the contact up but to no avail. I figured out which contact on the bulb was the one that corresponded with the brake light and used needle nosed pliers to squeeze the contact on the bulb forcing it upward. Worked like a charm and when I inserted thebulb, it worked properly. I put a new headlight and foglight bulb in last night so all my lights are in order. I alos detailed the car of course and since I always keep it waxed, it still looks great. I have a very few places (stone chip size) on my front bumper where the yellow shows through. Next year I am painting the whole lower (silver) portion to match the white on the car. -
Seems to me that an economy light is usually nothing more than a vacuum gauge of sorts. If you were to have a vacuum leak, it would probably cause the light to illuminate prematurely. Such a leak could also cause loss of engine power. I think it gets cold in Poland which makes old vacuum hoses very hard and prone to leaking, espcially at the connection points. Spray a little starting fluid around the hoses when the car is running and you will know pretty quickly.

Thanks Leadfoot. Yeah, I should have picked one up today. I was at the Lexus dealer this afternoon to pick up a fog light bulb($26). Didn't think of it until later. I figured rather than screw around figuring it out, I would just post a request. When I do replace it, I will take pictures of a video.

Buying A 91' Ls400 .... Soon To Be A Ls400 Owner Again...
VBdenny replied to 90LS400Lexus's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Hey 90. Glad to hear you found a car. Since I know you know what you are doing, I am sure you will have it squared up in no time. I also have my LS back since I broke down and bout my wife an ES as she works in New York now and I wanted her to have a newer car. I found a beautiful silver ES330 (2004) with only 23,000 miles on it. I did the K&N and replaced the tires since they wer aboput 1/2 worn. I detailed the whole thing and put 4 coats of Collinite Insulator wax on it and rolled it up to her. I picked up the LS and brought that home. I have to say though, after putting about 1000 miles on the ES330, I will say that my 90 LS drives better. I have been doing some cleaning and replaced a couple bulbs that were out. Sure is nice to have my baby back. I couldn;'t believe how fast my wife scarfed it up after I bought it. -
I would suspect that driving in the snow and getting the vehicle salted probably does a whole lot more damage that the tire spin. I'd move to a warmer climate.
-
My 04 ES330 turns 2000 RPM's at 60mph. Here is a video I made that shows my dash at 1:37 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ak86U-xufgk

Did The '92 Ls400 Have An Automatic Parking Brake Release?
VBdenny replied to Jerry Bransford's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
My parking brake gets used exactly once per year and that is at inspection. There is a release under the left side of the dash on mine.
