  1. I guess they would make those LA Police chase scenes on Spike TV last longer. I'd still miss the sparks. I would have to guess that these things ride just terrible since they obviously do not have any air in them.
  2. I jumped on this job this morning and sure enough, the wire was broken right where the hinge flexed the wires. I took a bunch of pictures and will put together a tutorial on this. A very easy job, thanks for the help everyone Denny

  6. I agree that even a new car should be clayed prior to applying any wax. When they ship new cars they stick that plastic to the paint for protection plus they do sit outside. When my wife got the new 300 Chrysler, I clayed it the day after she got it and was surprized how much debris was on the paint. I then applied 3 coats of Collinite #845 Insulator wax, the only wax I use anymore.

  9. I have consumer reports online so I looked at all the ratings. I was surpized they didn't have Yokohama Avids listed. I was looking at the Avid dB AVS tires. $80 (V) at tirerack
  10. The 44lbs may prevent damage from potholes and such but it sure didn't slow down that driveshaft much huh? I run 35lbs in mine but they are stock.

  12. Thanks SK, I opened the trunk and took a look at it this morning and it looks as if I will have to remove the panels inside the trunk for access. The wires are all taped up and I can see where they flex as the trunk opens and closes. I have my camera ready so as soon as I finish a painting job which my wife moved to #1 priority, I will work on the car.
  13. I guess there are benefits to hardly ever opening the sunroof. Actually my sunroof is special because at night it becomes a moonroof.
  14. I use K&N filters. Yeah, I know they are more expensive but I don't care. I will look into the information that lexusnut provided as I have three cars that I use K&N filters one. In reality, any oil filter changed often enough is probably fine. Just make sure you run synthetic oil through them.
  15. I noticed quite a few green valve caps around on cars lately. Do the green caps indicate that the tires are nitrogen filled?
  16. On older Lexus cars the wheels themselves were side specific. The rims on my 90 LS400 are marked L or R so they can not be switched without compromising the already overworked brakes.
  17. Related to this issue, do I need to splice is a section of wire to extend it? Is it 18 gauge wire? I will be fixing this Friday and I'll try to take pictures.
  18. I do not know if they are all the same. I will go out on a limb and assume that there are some differences but probably not that different. Glad you got it fixed

  21. Thanks, that is the wire I was talking about. There was a couple good threads on them from a couple years ago but there was a big crash around that time and some threads were lost.
  22. Hey, I can't seem to find the thread where it explained the problem dealing with a wire in the trunk. This is the wire that was made slightly shorter than it needed to be and sometimes breaks causing the Reverse Indiator light to come on when you apply the brakes. I seem to remember it being a blue wire or something? ANy help is appreicated.
  23. Like SWO I use my leaf blower then towel down with a microfibre. I wash mainly at night so it doesn't dry much before I blow it dry. I have a couple CWB's around and they work great to remove most of the water but the leaf blwer is different. I bought a new blower with 315mph wind.
  24. I can tell you exactly why you are having this problem. This cover needs to be removed to perform routine oil and filter changes. For whatever reason, Lesus uses very small washers to secure the shroud. Careless removal and replacement causes some of the threads to become stripped and some are overtightened. Others are just plain not replaced (because who ever looks under their car) figuring if 9 or 10 bolts is good, 5 will do it okay. I had my local Lexus dealer leave mine off completely when the did an oil change I specifically told them I did not want. This rough treatment o the underbody shroud, not to mention the forgotten mounting screws or bolts (10mm) that hold it on soon causes it to fail. You must remember that there is a great deal of air prssure under the car so there is quite a bit of force on the mounting bolts. Without this cover your alternator will take on water which will not cause immediate failure but will limit the longentivity. I would repair it with fiberglas cloth and resin, kind of a messy job but very do-able. Glue it together good with JB Weld first. Go to a hardware store and buy some large washers and place them as the final contact against the shroud plastic. You will be good to go.
