  1. I've got the MXV4's on my Lexi. I think they are great tires. They always align, balance, and wear perfectly straight and even(respectively). My only complaint is that on some of the really old roads(it looks like aggregate paving to me! lol) down here they get noisey, but they aren't loud enough for me to not recommend them. I find wet traction to be great with these tires. I've hit some large puddles on the highway doing 70(I had to pull over to change my pants afterwards! lol...I didn't realize how big the puddles were), and the Michelins simply disperse the water without ever thinking twice! Also, with the rwd LS(I know you don't have to worry about this, but it's just another rave for the Michelins), the rear end is always very secure in the rain. :D I've read on tirerack that snow traction is less than stellar-living in DC this is probably something to look into. I'll buy them again, but next time I want V ratings(have H now). It seems like the unanimous vote is for the Michelins! :D Best of luck with your delima. :D
  2. You are right! The Corvette ships from Bowling Green with Mobile 1 Synthetic already in the engine. That's good enough argument for me! :D
  3. Not to worry, my '95 LS4 is at 228,5xx miles. I switched to Mobile 1 syn in March, and I have no oil leaks whatsoever. Like Steviej told me, synthetic doesn't cause leaks; it just seeps through preexisting leaks that the conventional oil was pluging. :D BTW, this rattle that you talk about at start-up...is it constant, or does it stop after the engine has turned over? My LS has a rattle at start-up; it does it for maybe 1 second; I think it's a loose exhaust componet somewhere. I'll have to look into it later.
  4. Thanks for the suggestions Agent 99 and Wes. :) Wow, thanks '95. :D I'm going to have to try that. The TSB perfectly describes my problem. My tilt/tele works perfectly sometimes, and sometimes it does its own thing. What's weird is when I play with my telescope I can hear something crunching in the housing. I think it sounds like the motor is running over a straw or something(its gotta be the electrical tape though!).
  5. The LS got side airbags in '97 along with the debut of the Coach Edition. The "gear shift indicator place" is changeable. I just did it on my '95; it makes the center stack look 100x better! :D For cleaning the interior, a more powerful cleaner is Mr. Clean's magic erasers. The Woolite solution is more for maintaining a clean interior(I used full strength and didn't get much result at all). Welcome to the club! It's good to see another '95! :D
  6. You are right. However, the concern here was the kind of sulfur and the amounts of this particular type of sulfur. Our(LA's) attorney general is the process of questioning Shell about this outbreak of gas gauge problems for us Shell consumers.
  7. This batch of bad gas went to LA, MS, AL, FL, and TX(?). Only southeastern states were affected.
  8. The nut that surrounds the mast?? Or the actual tip of the mast? I've never seen the actual mast tip gold plated before!
  9. For an OEM Lexus mast, you'll want Lexus/Toy part number: 86337-50141.
  10. I just ran out and measured my new mast in the garage. Its tail is approx. 42 long. It's not a hard task; it's just time consuming as you have to move the trunk lining to get the antenna motor out to then disassemble it. I think I paid about $45 for a Lexus mast at newlexusparts.com. I have this problem too; I just haven't had time to go do it! :whistles: Blake '95 LS400
  11. I don't know if everyone knows this or not, but Shell shut down several of its gas stations in LA all the way out to FL. Elevated traces of sulfur were found in their gasolines which has lead to many broken gas guages. I fill up with nothing but Shell premium, and I have noticed that my needle has been acting funny. I just filed a claim online with Shell for my '95 LS400. I have every single recipt for fill-ups since I got the LS back in March along with my own vehicle mileage(at fill ups) and fuel consumption spreadsheet. Lexus of N.O. gave me an estimated price of $400-$600 for repairs. Shell better get ready to pony up for my repairs; I've used their gas since March with no problems, and now other people and I have these gas gauge problems that seem to be more than a coincidence. Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone spoken to Shell about how they will repair our cars? Here's a link to the story from a local N.O. paper: http://www.nola.com/search/index.ssf?/base...183560.xml?nola Shell's online claim form: http://www.interactclaims.com/shell/GL/shell.jsp & http://www.countonshell.com/
  12. I have this exact problem too(however, my telescope has gone crazy too), but I have not fixed it. I would assume that some kind of sensor or motor is bad or dirty. I've checked newlexusparts for the motor, and just the telescope motor is $400+. :o At that price, I think I can live with the cuckoo steering wheel adjustments. Sorry, I can't help you, but I can sympathize!

I went test drive a '04 Beetle TDI the other day(just for fun!). That is an awesome little car! You could barely hear the little diesel run...it was actually pretty peppy for 100hp. And, the space inside is incredible; I'm 6'3 and I didn't even slide the seat back as far as it would go! I'm not so sure about VW's reliability which is a turn off to a really nice and extremely comfortable little car.
  14. Try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Just like the name implies, they do work MAGIC!!! :D Check your grocery store's cleaning isle. They are about $5 for 4 erasers.
  15. Yeah, my car does this. If I slam on the brakes(but faster than 2-3mph...more like 40-60 for me), it feels like the car want's to keep going, but the wheels want to stop(really aggrovationg)! If you don't have to do any emergency braking, you'd never know the broblem existed! It also makes the bad clunking noise when I hit a bump really hard. I can't wait to get this fixed. What year is your car, and did you do this yourself, or did a mechanic do it? Most likely the strut bars? I'll look into this. thanks
  16. Other than you, I think Jill(93ES..) and McElligott are the only ones with the 5 speeds(there is a pristene red 5 speed in the gallery w/ 200k miles, but it has NO name on it.) I read in a Road and Track review of the '93(got it on ebay) that the 5 speed was going to be phased out because of the poor sales of the 5 speed tranny-5%.
  17. Do these brake wear lights actually work? My rear brakes squeal when I hit the brakes--it's time for some new ones, but I have no wear indicatior lit up on the dash. Anyone have any specifics as to when the light is supposed to come on??
  18. What you are saying is very true-we are Lexus biased, but Consumer Reports doesn't lie. This year European makes did come in last in reliability, according to CR. Take a guess at the most reliable...hint: it's a Lexus! The GS was the most reliable with only 5 problems per 100 cars! :D I know some of the 80's-90's MB's were pretty decent cars, but now it seems like they the newer ones are trash. Good to see you back GS! :D
  19. Another option you might want to pursue is finding a wheel from a wrecked '92. I located a junkyard through car-parts.com that had a steering wheel in perfect condition for $100 shipped. It took all of 30 minutes for the entire removal and installation. It's a win-win situation(quick and cheap)! ;) And, the junkyard(AA Auto) was a real pleasure to work with.
  20. Yeah, they probably wouldn't be able to find the problem anyways. Lexus of N.O.'s service department sucks. It took them 3 trips to figure out that I had a bad alternator. Is the '94 OBDII ? Welcome to the club New Orleanian!! :D

Yep, the E class(E300 and now E320 CDI) is. I know Volkswagon has a diesel Jetta, Passat, and Beetle(and a diesel Touraeg-sp??- with insane horsepower ratings). I'd love to have a TDI Beetle(kinda girly, but it is soo comfortable) right now; diesel is so much cheaper than gas.
  22. My LS has this problem too as well as many others. No one seems to know the anwser to this. Agent 99 recommended checking a tranny engagement solinoid or something like that. I was looking at my repair manual, and they have a section for things to check for "harsh engagemnt." I'll read up and report back. For the tires, just make sure they have the proper pressure in them. I run my Michelins at the max. 44psi. I find the ride just as cushy as when I had them at 30(they looked flat to me, so I aired them up some more! lol), and I believe this will help your mpg. Also, I'd make sure I had fresh oil and tranny fluid before heading out. 1UZFE, I don't think that this a "normal" problem in my $57k flagship Lexi. ;) I'm going to have this checked out by a tranny specialist that I know soon.
  23. Stevie, the '95 is a little different from the '97+...we have a stupid trunk with the extra narrow opening. You do have to remove the whole freakin light. It's a real pain in the !Removed!...I did it when I put the gold package on my ES(the emblem was embedded in the light, so I just bought a used one on ebay). Once you pull back the lining in the trunk, you'll see a metal plate where the screws(that hold the taillight assembly in) are...I'm about 99% sure that there is no way to do it while the light is in place. Sure enough, my burnt taillight icon came up the other day, so I'm going to be doing this procedure too...arrr.
  24. $3500 for a SC400...what a deal!! :D I convinced my parents in to getting me a LS with 225k. I first looked at the car and drove it. It was awesome, so I took some pics for my dad to look at. Then, he agreed to come look at he car with me a second time, and now it's sitting in my driveway! :D Make it clear to your parents that you'll pay for all of these repairs that they think you'll face(none, most likely), and take them with you to see the car. Show them that just because it's got more than 100k, it's not a pos. Remember that a Lexus is forever! Here's a pic of my baby at 228k... Best of luck and keep us posted!
