  1. I was told by a very knowledgable detailing source that the Onyx has no clearcoat, so it is very delicate--chips easy. I also have Onyx on my LS, and I'm probably going to get it repainted soon due to the number of rock chips and other damage.
  2. Never mind; I dunno what I'm talking about!
  3. I've got school work to do that weekend. It looks like an awesome meet though. I wish I could make it. Alright guys, let's carry out the origional post! Let's make a meet. We need a coordinator and a location--ideally the coordinator should live in the area of the meet for several reasons! Any takers?? How about the end of July or early August? It seems like Tenessee or a Carolina is the best--they're kinda central to everyone in the SE. Let's hear some suggestions on the where and when.
  4. 4.0 liter V-8(1UZFE), 260hp @ 5300 rpms, 270 lb-ft of torque @ 4500 rpms, and I want to say the 4speed tranny is the A340E. I think 0-60 is in the 7.5-8 second range. That's about all I know. What would be really interesting is the 60-0 braking!
  5. This is good to know! I'm going to have my fuel filter changed soon. I wounldn't be suprised if mine's still the origional(when I changed my plug wires they had '95 on them, so the fuel filter would be no shock if it was origional too!). I'm going to drive up to a Lexus dealer that is about 70 miles away with hopes that they'll treat me better than my local dealer. Thanks for sharing the info Craig! :D
  6. 90, my '95 does this too. I'm at almost 232k miles. Like you, it's a 2%-3% of the time thing, so the slight jerk is not there often enough to annoy me. I'm sure its( the slight jerk) due to the age and mileage. Hey...we have over 230k miles on the origional trannys with excellent shifts 97%+ of the time....let this one slide!! B)
  7. Noo, it's not totally random! The '93 I looked at had corosion all over the trunk, and I think Denny was just trying to say that it may not be as serious as I thought because there is no telling how it happened-it could be a drined ice chest or it could be serious. 90, just curious....why did you bring this post back?
  8. man I miss that color Hehe, I don't know why everyone hates beige(it's nearly invisible to rock chips, swirls, scratches, dirt, and the list could go on forever! lol), but like you, I love it too! :D
  9. This is old!!! Yeah, I went with my '95 instead of these two luxury yachts! That '92 was in excellent shape; it would have been a really nice car. It olny had 104k when I looked at it. The guy was looking at a G35, so, if he didn't sell it privately, I'm sure Cresent City Infiniti has it now. BTW, I looked at this car in Feburary, so who knows where it is by now!
  10. Looks like Cashmere to me too. Here's my ES in Cashmere; they look the same.
  11. Keep the Cashmere...don't switch to blue! :D I looked into getting my black LS repainted, and I was given a figure in the $2800-$3000 range; you could probably deduct a little from that estimate due to the size difference of LS v. ES. Personally, I'd take the $1k and get the bumpers repainted to match the rest of the car, and you'll be good to go! You'll be hard pressed to find a good paint job for $1k.
  12. The sunroof does stop 2/3 of the way closed as a safety measure, but I find it very aggrovating! You should only hear a beep-beep-beep if you've left the sunroof tilted up and removed the key from the ignition.
  13. From one Lexus owner and Blake to another, welcome! :D Like Agent99 said, this is the best club around with the best and very knowledgable people in it! :D
  14. Park Place Lexus has them for a little less-$110, and they have free shipping: http://store.yahoo.com/parkplacelexus/lexusfloormats.html
  15. I think that alarms are generally worthless. I've had several friends with expensive alarms get their cars broken in to. If you're worried about the whole car getting stolen, get a LoJack.
  16. Hmmm, that's good to know about the spraying of the door jambs and what not! :D Why isn't Black Onyx clearcoated?
  17. They fixed this in '95 with the resdeign. After 9 years of service and 231k, and my needles are 100%. :D
  18. Probably, when someone did an oil change(it covers the filter), they either forgot to put it back or got lazy and threw it out!
  19. I totally agree!!! :D And it is easily damaged because it has no clear coat. I was thinking about getting my LS painted white, but I would lose my mind everytime I opened the door or hood and saw the black insides. I think that beige is also extremely easy to keep clean(some people think beige is a boring woman's color, but I love it!). The color of dirt just blends right in!
  20. Congrats on the car and welcome! :D If you have air suspension, you will see a switch right infront of the ECT power button on the gear shifter plate. See the pic below; excuse the 5th gear; this car is a '99, but the air suspension switch will be the same. Also, you must remember that the LS is no Porsche 911. This is a smooth, quiet touring machine with a roaring engine hidden under the hood. B) The car should feel controlled, but it will roll, so don't expect firm, linear reactions through the S turns. lol I suppose new shocks would help you if you do have the regular suspension since there's a chance that you are riding on the origional shocks. If you do have air sus. and you don't want it any more, you can put regular shocks in their place...many have done this mod to aviod air shocks that are $700+ a piece. I hate to give to you the run around, but the 80mph vibration, could be a bunch of different things: lower ball joints, tire problems, drivetrain problems, mounts-engine or tranny, etc. However, if I had to pick one(after a tire rebalance), I'd go with the lower ball joints. ;) Known LS problems are pretty much limited to leaky p/s pumps, front suspension componet failure(bushings, ball joints, etc.), and dead LCDs. Other than that, keep up with the tranny fluid and engine oil, and you'll be good forever! See the detailing forum for all cosmetic issues.
  21. Did the '98 have an electronic throttle? I've never heard of this before on the LS400's. <_<
  22. Look at almost any componet on the LS, and it'll read Toyota! I'd bet it's origional. BTW, cool wagon! B)
  23. ...or just read the previous post!! Well put, 4.0.
