  1. The airbag light won't go off with an unplugged battery. I had to pay a Toyota dealer to get mine turned off. Unless you drove the car w/o the airbag in, you have a problem in the SRS system, and correct me if I'm wrong, the SRS system will not work with the airbag light on. Get this checked ASAP! I don't know about turning the brake light off.
  2. Why the hard feelings for the MXV4's?? After reading about them some more on tirerack.com, I see that they aren't so hot in the snow...this why? I have the MXV4 Energy tires on my '95, and I love them. They are great in the wet and dry; I don't know about snow since it never snows down here. The MXV4 Energy tires have been awesome on my LS; they ride wonderfully-perfect balance always, and they wear evenly, ride quietly, and handle well(I've taken some sharp turns at high speeds, and the Energies didn't say a word). It almost seems as though you need to make a guess for your next set of tires since it seems to be a hit or miss thing. For ex., the MXV4's have ratings all over the place-some love them and some don't. They work fine for me but not everyone, so put all of your top picks in a hat, close your eyes, and pick! Good luck!
  3. I replaced my keyboard and mouse because I didn't like the design. I had the mac keyboard and mouse for about 3 years, and they were trouble free. I replaced them with a nice Logitech wireless setup for about $70. That's odd that you go through so many! I've had great luck with my Mac Cube; she's reliable and solid! I'm mainly worried that I'm going to need some PC only program for college; then, I'll be up the creek w/o a paddle. :( Thanks for your response, Monarch.
  4. Not so! ;) My '95 LS gets in between 20-21mpg in the city which is a min. of 2mpg more than my '94 ES. My insurance went up only a slight bit; it's got a V8, but the insurance thinks it's not a sporty car(they're wrong though, but it's our gain!). I was in this exact same boat a little while ago-I wanted to replace my ES for a larger Lexus. I looked at many 90-94 LS's; they are nice, but where they fall short(floaty ride, seats, etc.), Lexus really fixed it up for 95 and on. I drove a 97 ES too; it was a fine car-so much better than my '94! I'm still wary of the pillarless doors! ;) The 97-01 ES is a gorgeous car in and out(some say boring, but I love it!). I'd steer clear of the origional GS3. I'd say look for a 95-97 LS for the price bracket you stated; you should have no trouble finding one for that price at all. These cars are simply phenominal! They have everything: style, class, superb power, ample room for everyone, smooth ride, and the car will probably outlast you! Go drive a LS, and nothing will seem good enough after that. I don't find that they float as much as everyone thinks, and the ability to jump to 120mph on the freeway is always nice(did it once on accident). B) The Avalon is lovely too! Odd styling, but I think it's a wonderful looking car with a great interior! I'd rate the cars you car looking at like so: 1. 95+ LS400 2. 97+ ES300 3. 98+ Avalon 4. 1st gen. GS3 Good luck with your decision
  5. My brother's truck had a bad universal joint. We noticed 2 of your syptoms the entire truck vibrated like crazy and it did whine a little! Replaced it, and the problem is gone! Great suggestion, Denny! ;)
  6. Sorry about the wreck, but more importantly, you're ok! That's an awesome car you've got; I'd loved to have found a LS with air ride(I know I'd regret it later when they go bad!), nak, and all of the goodies when I was searching earlier this year. Just curious, did the TRAC help you out any? Could you feel it working, or was it worthless? I'm still not 100% sure about the whole situation. Let me get this straight: You came around a slight curve at 40mph, lost contol-probably due to the older tires, the front of the LS hit gaurd rail which then pushed the back around into the railing. Right?
  7. With an upcomming high school graduation-headed to LSU, I need to decide what kind of laptop I want(grad present). My two older siblings both got top end Dell Inspiron laptops. I must say that I was quite disapointed with the build quality of a $2500 machine and typical PC reliability(sorry guys!)! :( I've been eyeing the new Apple PowerBook G4 with 15" screen(and the automatic glowing keyboard...sooo cool!). I love Macs; I'm on one of the rarest(and coolest!) Macs right now- the Power Mac G4 Cube(I'll post a pic below, so yall can see how pretty she is! lol). Macs look stunning; nothing can even come close in this department. They even feel like they spend all the money you pay for them to build them; everything feels top quality and solid especially when compared to my brother's and sister's Dells. Even better is their everyday stability; my G4 Cube has locked up maybe 3 times in the 3 years I've had it. Our freshly reformated HP locks up that many times in a day! lol Pros of Mac: quality, style, and most impt. stability Cons: possible compatability issues with the PC world, any others?? So here's the question...will I regret having a laptop that only a minority of the computing population has? I can get a complete version of MS Office for Macs. I can imagine Office would be the most needed app, so this is no biggie. When I went up to LSU for my band auditon, I was pleasently suprised to see Macs everywhere! Any other thoughts?? All feedback is appreciated! Here's my G4 Cube(that's it...an 8" x 8" cube) with lcd monitor, iPod, wireless keyboard and mouse, awesome and real cheap Samsung laser printer, and a booming Harmon Kardon sound system(sorry about my messy room)...pretty cool little machine, huh?
  8. Welcome! :D For the sandpaper-like paint, you definantly need to clay it. The Magic Clay bar is available at any AutoZone for around $10. You'll be amazed. Clay is simple, quick, and very effective. Steve might have some more ideas for you to try too. Upholstry work varies. Typically, you get what you pay for. I paid $600 to have part of my driver's seat replaced. It's quite expensive, but the craftsmanship is incredible!!! :) It looks like factory work I'd say $600(est.) to get that rear strip replaced by a good upholsterer. DON'T move the emblem...The emblem is recessed into the actual taillight. If you do remove it, you will have to do some kind of custom job to fill the hole. The rear brakes are a cake walk! My dad and I changed the rear brakes in 30 minutes one weekend. They are brilliantly designed. The longest part of the job is taking the wheel off! ;) For the needles, not to many choices here. A few people can rebuild the needles to OEM like quality. A guy in Club Lexus does them in any color and configuration you can think of for a reasonable price, and there's one other sight, but I can't think of their names(I do remember that they are pricey). As a temporary fix, just roll the dimmer back until they stop flickering.
  9. TR, the resistance you are feeling is from the lip on the inside of the key. The lip is in the area where the key ring would go. After you've undone the screw, lift and push(away from the actual key blade) the cover out. If you need pics, let me know. ;) Don't force anything!
  10. No, you're right; the; manual says 36 in. from the door, but in real life, they do work from much farther away.
  11. Yep, it's a Gen II. All of the lights flash 2x when you press the lock button for the second time.
  12. 93, your beeping pattern should be backward(both of my Lexi have this pattern...): 2beeps=unlocked and 1 beep=locked. ;)
  13. I'm glad it all work out well! :D I love the beeping sound(and 2 light flashes when you lock) that the car makes! It's very different...Lexus/Toyota exclusive(maybe others have it, but I've only noticed it on Lex/Toy). I thought I was going to lose my mind when I first got my LS because the beeping was off(I never knew if the car was locked or unlocked!), and the switch is hidden very well near the brake pedal(unlike the 90-94). Luckily, I was poking around to see what was down there, and I found the switch! Horrray! :D
  14. BR1216. Also, the "BR" can be "CR"; Radio Shack told me that it's a manufacturing thing(the CR1216 is working fine for me!). After, I changed the battery in my key for the ES, it worked much, much better than before. They say only 3ft., but mine works from 10-15ft. away. The battery should be no more than $3 at Radio Shack.
  15. ...Along with: -a more controlled ride -better, less springy seats -glovebox cd changer -260hp-up 10 hp from 90-94 -needles that are less prone to burn out as quick -more elegant shifter -similar look but with a lot sharper lines(sadly, the dual exhaust is not accented like the 90-94) -the climate control LCD won't burn out, but the stereo LCD will in its place! -separate key and remote with trunk release and panic buttons(I know the all in one key runs $200+ whereas you can buy the plain key for $50 and a remote off of ebay) -I'm sure the tranny was revised...not sure though
  16. You can get the real Lexus hardcopy editions for the $150 bracket. I think I paid about $175 after s/h for vol 1 & 2 of the '95 Lexus LS repair manual. The things you want to aviod are the $40 CD's.
  17. I bought mine on ebay for my '95. Be prepared to shell out atleast $150 for the 2 volume set. Congrats on the new car!!!
  18. My '95 LS gives a nice big lurch foward when I put the car in D or R. This is a very strong lurch...the car kinda recoils a little after the lurch(just to give yall an idea of how strong the lurch is). The tranny shifts through all of the gears flawlessly-down and up shifts are superb and smooth. The car idles perfectly smooth and runs like a top. Any ideas on what might be causing this lurch. I'm in the process of changing all of the tranny fluid; I drained two quarts on Sunday, and refilled with 2 quarts of Toyota T-IV. The shifts got even smoother, but the lurch is still here. The funny thing is the lurch is pretty much non existant once the car is warmed up.
  19. Welcome to the best Lexus Club there is, Q! B) There are a few guys on here that live in your area! Have any pics of the new machine??
  20. She looks beautiful VMF! Be very proud!
  21. I just threw TN out as an example. ;) Anyone want to volunteer to schedule this thing up? I suppose it would be best to pick a location first; then, we can go from there(so that person can go scope places out or whatever). I really wan this thing to happen! :)

    E-z Pass

It sonds like the EZ Pass is something similar to what we have down here in New Orleans to get across the Cresent City Connection. I have the little cartridge that is velcroed to my winsheild. This thing is a life saver; plus, it's cheaper to get across the river- $.40 v $1. Is this what the EZ Pass looks like? Look right above my inspection sticker.....
