I don't know which brand of parts they use but if you were to use their service, you can ask that and whether they would allow you to supply the parts.

Did you do this, yourself or have a Lexus or Toyota certified mechanic do it? Since our first brake job was required at about 120,000 miles, I spent the money to have the dealership do it. They've been perfect ever since.

Have you checked junk yards? You can always conduct a search on Bing and Google to see if something turns up.

You can take it to most auto parts stores for a free OBD II code check. The person doing this should be able to tell you what any codes mean. They can also erase the code after the failed part (if any) is replaced.

I was thinking more of the o2 sensor(s). A malfunctioning thermostat that is stuck closed would cause overheating, whereas a stuck open thermostat would probably not cause drivability issues after the engine is up to operating speed.

Could it be a faulty O2 sensor? If it causes the engine to run rich, that would be a problem after the engine is warmed up.

Usually when starting is intermittent, its either the ignition switch or the starter solenoid, but it could also be an intermittent wire/cable connection. Auto-Electric shops specialize in tracking down electrical issues with which mechanics have a hard time.

Are you referring to the front lip or the side of the car? Try entering the parking lot at an angle and at a slower speed.

Typically, the dash lights would work if the battery is good and the ignition switch is good. Can you check to see that the starter is receiving voltage from the switch?

If you can charge it to full charge, check the voltage at the battery while it is running. It should be up to at least 13.5 volts or so. If it's lower than that, your alternator may be bad. If the alternator is doing okay, then you can do an amp draw test with a multimeter.

How old is your battery? Have you reseated the gas cap?

Wouldn't the alarm be an effective deterrent?

3M makes an adhesive called 847. It is specifically for bonding rubber/gaskets to a variety of materials. It is also fuel and oil resistant. It comes in a 5 oz tube (brown in color).

Automotive locksmiths typically can do everything but I've found that they are sometimes as costly to hire as a dealership.

I would not shoot in the dark to try to fix an issue like that. Do you have a code reader that has all the Toyota/Lexus codes?
