  1. Are Autolite Iridium XP good plugs to use instead of NGK or Denso?
  2. Check ALL vacuum hoses, one tiny air leak caused mine to act severely inconsistent in terms of everything you mentioned.
  3. Strongly recommend replacing all your wires with decent quality ones!
  4. Do you happen to have heavy key chain attached to your ignition key? (Is the key snug in ignition?) Triple check battery and terminals/wires. I've experienced both those.
  5. "RX400h" and Paulo, thank you all your information is greatly appreciated. RX..., yeah I have a 2004 Corvette also and the display for HVAC is extremely difficult to view (dimmed almost 100%). For the Lexus LS400 I haven't replaced the license plate lights or reverse yet. Didn't think those would apply to tail lamp failure. Also I believe I need to check the location of TLFS module in trunk area (not sure where that is). Previous owner did not bother to clean out trunk seal gutter so when I bought it water very easily could have drooled down into trunk inner sides behind carpet.
  6. 1998 LS400 changed all bulbs to correct wattage or nominally higher wattage (1-3 watt above stock) and even electro greased connections. Still getting "tail lamp failure" message BUT ONE INTERESTING NOTE IS THAT IT ONLY SHOWS MESSAGE WHEN GEAR SELECTOR MOVES OUT OF "PARK". WHY would Lexus not make it easy to just replace bulb and done? Is there an easy fix?
  7. For example, on my Vette having 40 and 45 series tires with huge rims; absolutely mandatory to have intensely upgraded shock and suspension to match. Otherwise driving would be more torture than enjoyable.
  8. Yes, and "RX400h" has a really great answer. .71 difference I believe (almost 95%) that speedometer only off less than 2 MPH from reality.
  9. I agree with "Olygirl", if you're still under warranty or sven slightly out of warranty then best to not use regular. The cost difference isn't worth the risks. Almost seems the same as saying lower grade oil is ok to use all the time. In a hardship, it won't completely destroy but regular use of fluids not recommended is never a good idea. Full disclosure just my opinion based on learning the hard way. Hope the best for you.
  10. Try checking air vacuum connections, particularly the EGR plastic box (odd shaped) and the connection where intake air comes to meet the manifold throttle body. For example, in my 98 LS400 one of the many times I removed the big black piece connecting to throttle body manifold (near center of engine bay) ; I didn't make the rubber and hose clamp perfectly 100% and I had random things happen very briefly and intermittently. These events were: VSC off warning light, check engine warning, randomized low acceleration power, and most importantly - extreme automatic transmission gear change. Hope this helps!
  11. Best ride and performance would be to maintain as much sidewall as factory. For example instead of 65 series (second number on tires) try 50-55 but rim size needs to match that number in terms of overall height. When put together, the new rime plus the sidewall height would equal the same total height of factory height. A very small amount wider will definitely help for traction especially side action / cornering. This is my opinion based on my experience. The less sidewall the worse the ride in rough roads like city pot holes. (Full disclosure to check on safety first then look cool second. Follow all applicable regulations in your area)
  12. I stand corrected from most recent post, OBD2 not on the 1992. Apologies
  13. Much less likely to get shot due to reaching in glove box
  14. For any necessary driver's/vehicle document if getting pulled over by law enforcement.
  15. If you haven't already, I recommend connecting a professional level OBD2 scan/diagnostic because it may not show as driver information light warning. I found out that I had code that didn't show visually in dash. Also, if it's running weak and shifting irregular and forced into gears. Check vacuum from intake manifold to air intake including checking all plugs, check for anything inside of all intake plastic parts especially the EGR air resonator box (known for having defective thinner part on outlet/inlet. CHECK THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR!!! Hope the best.
