I would buy a GS without hesitation even after hearing the stories on this board. You can't really take what is said on here as a true representation of whats happening the GX's all over the place. IMHO people on here get sometimes rediculously critical of these cars because they're "Lexus" and should be "perfect". Any car is a machine...

I actually really like the way they do their reliability ratings. If you click on the red X it will give you a full discussion of the problems and what causes them and what it will take to fix them.

Have you tried claying the paint and seeing what that does? I would have the entire car repainted. On a car that old they're never going to be able to make the paint match properly, if cost is no object then the best idea is a repaint. Be prepared to spend a couple to a few thousand dollars for a good one. And good repaints equal or exceed the factory quality, just make sure you find a good shop with references.

The wheels are coated in a clearcoat just like the paint, as long as the clearcoat isn't compromized then you should be able to buff them up with an abrasive polish just as you would the paint. An orbital would be helpful.

What that looks like to me is bug residue. If left on the paint for too long bugs will etch into the paint surface. Is it smooth to the touch or can you feel them? You said clay didnt work?

When it comes to extended warranties always remember- They aren't selling it to you out of the goodness of their heart. If most people ever used the extended warranty then they wouldn't make any money on them and they wouldn't sell them any more ;) Think of it this way, if you don't get the warranty you MIGHT spend $2500 in repairs. If you DO get the warranty you WILL spend $2200 for it. All financial analysts will tell you to skip the warranty.

Also bear in mind that the 98 is the first run of the car and there have been some new model glitches. Also bear in mind that the 90k service is huge, and the 2000 is gonna need it soon.

What year is it? Thats pretty common when it gets cold, the plastic gets more brittle and less flexible. If its under warranty the dealer will track it down and fix it.

Sure, most auto glass shops will do aftermarket sunroof installations. I would get references though to ensure you're goung to get a quality install.

Thats pretty common, the horizontal surfaces take almost all of the UV and heat beating compared to the sides, and Lexus black has no clearcoat. Did you ever wind up buying a PC (Porter Cable orbital buffer) Blake? If not it may help restore the paint to its best condition. Can you post some pics of those white specs?

What I actually use and reccomend are MacNeil Weathertech rubber mats for winter. They each hold up to a quart of water. The problem with those clear mats is that any water will simply roll off. Check em out at www.weathertech.com Lexus also sells similar clear plastic though cut to exactly match the mat shape, the ones at that link look good though.
