  3. I don't think it's a good idea to let your tank get so low. I try to refill when my tank reads ¼, otherwise it'll pick up alot of crap in the tank. ;) Of course it's not a good idea Al A couple of times I literally ran out of gas while on the road, both times as I was actually exiting off the highway to get gas. Now I just fill up when the fuel gauge goes to around the ballpark of 1/4.
  4. From my experience, it's approximately around 30-50 miles after the low fuel light comes on before the gas tank runs dry, and the car starts to decelerate ;)
  5. The problem is with your alternator, which is most likely not distributing enough power to the headlights component. You will have to get the alternator checked out at a service shop and see if it can hold a normal charge.

  7. I get the same noise occurrence as chadmg7 has described, and I've also been told that it's normal amongst all ES model years.
  8. TB = timing belt. This part has to be replaced every 90K miles on the ES.
  9. To fix the climate control light bulb issue, please follow this link (http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104934). There are 4 individual bulbs (Lexus P/N 90010-03001) which provide the backlighting on all the climate control buttons, and 2 individual bulbs (Lexus P/N 90010-03002) which light up the LCD screen for the climate control unit. You will have to go to the parts counter of your Lexus dealership to order the bulbs you need. For the plastic shield which holds the seat memory buttons, yes you will have to remove it in order to un-jam the SET button. Don't worry, once you remove the plastic shield, there are just a few wires underneath it; nothing too fancy or delicate. Just get at the SET button and be done with it ;)
  10. Wow that's a lot of miles on your '01. Silver is one of my favorite colors on that ES. I got my '01 three years ago w/ 63,800 miles at that time for around $18,900. Now it has 122,000 miles and runs great with no major problems, albeit an oil change is due soon ;)
  11. I've seen an OEM Solara strut bar installed and properly fit in a '97 ES. It may work on your 2000 ES since the length and clearance of the strut mounts haven't changed for the '97-'01 ES. You may want to look into that ;)
  12. I have not seen this successfully converted into a '92-'96 ES, but I can't say for sure if it will work. It will greatly depend on the compatibility of the airbag system (stage 1 or 2) in your car. You should also note that the picture of the wheel does not have the cruise control button, although I'm sure if you were to get a steering wheel, it would contain cruise control.
  13. I am almost positive there exists a CD changer wiring harness in your ES. It should be located in the driver side of your trunk. You'll have to pull out the trunk carpeting in order to get to the wiring harness for installation.

  16. My dad has a '98 BMW 740iL w/ only 45K miles, and personally I think it's a superb vehicle which has tested its time through the years. The only problem encountered was a faulty starter, which we replaced a while ago. I think the price for that part was around $400, including labor. chuckb is right... you'll be paying more out of pocket for repairs and part replacements on a BMW than on a Lexus. Just something to keep in mind. Other than that, good luck with whatever route you consider! :)
  17. First of all, I would replace the driver's side bulb with the passenger bulb and see if you can replicate the problem. If the problem still exists, then there is a problem with the wiring harness for the driver side bulb. If the bulb lights up OK, then the problem is the driver side bulb itself. In that case, I'd replace both bulbs at the same time to get consistent light output.
  18. If you are just trying to pass inspection, then I believe replacing just the B1S1 should be fine. You may have already realized how tight of a space it is to reach into and get the O2 sensor being located near the firewall on the right bank, but it can be done without going to a dealership or service shop. All you need to do is get a 7/8" (or 22 mm) wrench to remove the sensor and unclip the wiring harness from the sensor. Reverse the steps for installing a new sensor, and there you go :)
  19. Inspect your right front wheel closely and see if anything obvious is loose. If you can't find anything, go to a tire/wheel shop and have them take the wheel off your tire and do a closer inspection of the matter.
  20. Check the color of your tranny fluid. If it's anywhere near grey or black, the fluid has to be replaced. I recommend a simple drain and fill procedure for this one (which should cost around $100 from the dealership), but if you can't remember the last time the tranny fluid was replaced, you might want to do a complete tranny fluid flush.
  21. They should be a direct plug-in to your ES. IMO they look a lot cleaner than the stock ones, and if they're priced considerably less than the stock ones, why not take a chance and get them? ;) Just make sure you use amber bulbs with the lenses (DOT law for front turn signals to be amber light).
  22. It probably has to do with the tension of the serpentine belt. The belt part is temperature sensitive for some reason, and I have the same problem with my '01 ES. Occasionally I have sprayed WD-40 to the belt, and the noise stopped, but of course that's just a temporary fix. I'll have to find some time to order the belt and get it replaced, but as others have mentioned, this won't harm your car in the long run, nor will it affect your starter.
  23. I had to do the tranny flush when the original transmission crapped out in my '01 ES a couple years ago (it had 98,600 miles at that time). This was done in addition to the replacement of the transmission, so right now the car feels just as strong and new like it came out of the showroom :)
  24. I got my '01 ES back in April 2003 at 63,890 miles. Now in Jan. 2006, this daily driver is sitting at 119,470 miles. That calculates out to roughly 1,685 miles driven per month, quite more than the national average.
