  1. Dealer checked out my car and they said it was the idle control valve, but the throttle body itself also needed to be cleaned out. They want $270 for all of the work Is this a fair price?
  2. Thanks i will clean out the throttle body idle control valve or have the dealer do it
  3. Hi everyone I have a 99 lexus es300 and about once a week when i start the car it idles very low at about 200 rpms or dies. This only happens when i drive the car a certain way. let me explain: I drive the car about 10 miles to work, so it is fully warmed up. I park the car, and after about four hours has passed i start it and move it a very short distance where it does not have enough time to warm up. Then, about 30 minutes later, I leave work and start up the car. It starts but idles at only about 200 rpms or less, or dies. It stays like this until the car has fully warmed up. This does not happen if i drive far enough to let the car warm up [To work and from work to house, where where i fully let it warm up and do not move it a short distance] My diagnosis of the problem is as follows 1) The throttle body needs to be cleaned 2)Vapor lock takes place whenever i drive in that certain style 3) Or it needs a new idle control sensor What could it be? Please help, any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
  4. thanks lexucan, i will try the heating tecnique
  5. I should have explained something first The tint is not under warrenty because I work at a car dealership and paid someone else who works there $80 to do the tint. He seemed to do a great job, as the tint he used was llumar, and one of their high quality films. But after the tint was already dry I noticed this small bubble. I have tried the pin trick and it did help a bit, but the bubble wont go away because it cant stick to the window because the tint is already dry.
  6. Hi, I had my windows tinted 5% all the way around about 3 months ago and recently noticed there is a small (about pea size) bubble on the right front passenger window. It does not really bug me but will the bubble get bigger or spread out? I do not want to go through the process of scraping the tint off and retinting the window. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  7. not sure if noise was present beforehand, just do not remember it
  8. Got under my car earlier today and checked it out. The exhaust/muffler was fine- no scratches at all. There was one part on the front that looks like its part of the suspension that had minor scratch marks on it. To clarify the hissing sound- it doesn't sound like a vacumme hose. I can only hear it when the windows are down and I put the car in nuetral and rev it to about 3k and then let off. It is a slight hissing noise, but i it may just be normal. (The valves or cams possibly?)
  9. Hey i was just driving earlier tonight and did not see a big dip in the road. I was traveling at about 35 miles per hour when I should have been going about 5. Next thing i know i hear metal scraping against concrete and my cd to stops playing because of the shock. I got out and it was too dark to see anything, but when i rev the engine to about 3k in park and let the engine settle back down it lets out a sort of hissing noise that i do not remember it doing before. Any idea of what this noise could be? Also, what else should I check/look for? I was so ticked after this happened and i hope nothing serious happened.
  10. thanks everyone i think i will go ahead and do the full flush- not just the drain and fill
  11. I would do the flush but i have heard that if a transmission flush has never been done before and the car is relatively high mileage then it can ruin the transmission. Has anyone heard the same? So this is why I have a problem because I am not sure if its been done (but the 60000 mile service has been done not sure if that includes a flush).
  12. Hi, I have a 99 es300 with 95000 miles and cannot decide if I should do a transmission flush. I am not sure if one has been done before, although i do know that the 60,000 mile service has been done- but not sure if that includes a transmission flush. The transmission fluid itself is not dark, but is a muddy brown type color. So should I go ahead and do a flush? thanks
  13. toysrme, exactly how is castrol gtx nasty, my mechanic says it is a perfeclty good oil, and i work at Infiniti where we use castrol for all regular oil changes and all the techs at my dealership say its a good oil- we have had no trouble with it.
  14. think i will just go with castrol gtx this time around (5w30) but i have heard that toyota's 3.0 v6 has been known to have a few sludge problems, so i plan on changing the oil at at least 5k or below.
  15. i will look into the sylglyde for the weatherstripping, but think i will forget the k and n air filter/ air intake if it provides no real advantage as for the synthetic i should have said that my car has 95,000 miles- and regular was used for ALL previous miles. If I do go to synthetic, assuming it is O.K, can I switch back to regular? I have heard that once you switch you cant go back Appreciate all input
