  1. I'd take steviej's advice & stick with the Toyota long life coolant (red stuff) OR you can switch to the Toyota 'Super long life engine coolant' which is pink in colour & is now factory fill on many Toyota & Lexus models. B)
  2. keep ua posted blake! Let us know which on is the overall best B) I wonder if e-bay has any that folks are willing to part with?
  3. Try doing a search on the maintenance forums.....this topic has been covered. B)
  4. I've heard there will be a 2005 GS but it will be a very short run untill the all new GS is introduced very early next year as an early 2006. The thing that catches my attention of the new 2006 model is the very sleek & sexy styling plus the added bonus of available all wheel drive on the new 6 cylinder model which will be a V6 instead of an inline 6. B) It all depends what type of vehicle suits your needs really.....the GS is more expensive than the ES & do you need FWD, RWD or AWD?
  5. Aston Martin DB9 or V12 Vanquish & possibly even the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren! Pure awesome machines & more than likely one of the best chick magnets around (although I am married now so..... :whistles: ......but I can dream can't I? ) B)
  6. Stupidity is more like it lol Those are just aweful! :chairshot: :whistles:
  7. I agree gents! I too was not overwelmed with the new STS......I came so close before I bought my ES & almost got a 2001 STS. After a long conversation with two of my mechanics.......he steered me away from anything Cadillac with the previous generation Northstar engine as well as other maladies. I like the AWD concept however........I will keep an eye out since it's a completly new platform & I'm not a huge fan of purchasing an American car in it's first year of production for obvious reasons. B)
  8. At least I'm glad to see that it's not just Toyota/Lexus that has this problem. It just reinforces the importance of regular oil & filter changes at the correct intervals! B)
  9. Agreed RX! Those Yoko's are an awesome tire especially for the price!! Excellent all round performance & very highly rated in adverse weather conditions & a smooth quiet ride on the highway! I have 2 friends with SUV's and I have recommended them......nothing but good things I've heard & your choice of blackwall or raised white lettering on the sidewalls. B) That would be my top choice.
  10. Looks like Audi & VW has a problem concerning oil sludge on their 1.8L Turbo 4 cyl engine. VW Extends Warranty on Passat, Audi The Daily Auto Insider Wednesday, September 1, 2004 September 2004 Volkswagen has sent letters to about 425,000 Audi A4 and VW Passat owners saying it has extended its warranty coverage for the 1.8 liter, turbo four-cylinder engine that powers 1998 to 2004 Passats and 1997 Audi A4s because of certain problems relating to oil sludge, which can cause engines to falter, The Wall Street Journal reported. The company sent the letters after receiving reports of engine-component problems relating to oil sludge, a buildup of old, dirty engine oil which can deter engine lubrication, the story said. Volkswagen told customers in the letter that it has extended the warranty on oil-sludge-related repairs to a fully transferable, eight-year, unlimited-mileage warranty. Volkswagen is offering the warranty in addition to the existing five-year, 50,000-mile warranty that generally covers the vehicles. News of the situation was reported this week by Automotive News, a trade publication.
  11. Awesome Republican convention so far! GO ARNOLD! :D fantastic speech. B)
  12. I'm suprised they have Castrol 5w30 & not Mobil 1 5w30. Good Luck! B)
  13. Go to www.tirerack.com they have suggestions for upsizing tires & rims. B)
  14. Not necessarily 95LS. Lexus (like all automakers) are more concerned about their profit margins & costs than they are about the quality & quietness of the tires they select for their cars at the factory. They mainly put a tire on that will just 'do the job' as opposed to putting the very best available.......more often than not they are all season tires because you have folks from Key West to Alaska (Canada in the middle there ;) ) driving these cars so they try & put something on that will appeal to customers in all areas.....problem is they select sub-standard rubber from the outset which is wrong! again, worried about their bottom line & not the customers safety first. Like I said, it's all automakers not just Lexus. Tires put on from the cactory 8 - 12 years ago are old & very outdated technology. You might be able to still find them on the market, but I would suggest getting something much more modern that will have superior traction & last much longer at roughly the same price point. B)
  15. I leave mine the way it is also.....I'll change to a performance air filter and small items like that but I don't touch any major components for modest gains as I am happy with the power & economy with my ES. But to each their own.....I guess my point was if you have to spend thousands of dollars to get say 50 - 100 HP increase, why not buy the car that already has that kind of power already from the factory? Get it a year or more older than the ES for around the same price. ;)
  16. If the car is properly maintained & driven, BOTH the engine & transmission should outlast the body of the car almost everytime & should never need an overhaul or the engine replaced! Of course there are exceptions to the rule but overall 9 (or a slightly higher ratio) out of 10 cars should be like this generally speaking. B)
  17. Fred, you must mean Falken tires right? What size tires do you need? Did you get the Ziex ZE-512's? Probobly not the best choice for an LS as they are an Ultra high performance all season tire.....I just put a set on my wife's car & they are awesome!!! Let me know & perhaps I can help. Stay away from the GY GA's :whistles: , they are very old technology! I can suggest alternatives but I need the size & what are most important to you in a tire. B)
  18. What type of battery do you have in the car now flank?
  19. OMG that's aweful! The Potenza RE 92's would be a better choice!! & that's not saying much at all. When are the automakers going to learn? :chairshot:
  20. sw, please tell me these aren't the tires that will be on the 05 ES with 17" tires! :cries: :chairshot: click the link as this is the only 'all season' Bridgestone tire available in the 215 55 17 size! http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp...ing=ZR&x=28&y=5
  21. You can do a search on www.lexus.com They have an archive section I beleive that explains in detail the 'enhancements' if you will over the years of a specific Lexus model. Just have to find the ES one.....but it is there! Quite a bit of changes over the 97 - 01 model years actually......mainly small stuff & a few big items. B)
  22. Keep us posted. I know that with a tune up, you won't get any less MPG than with the parts you have in there now & I doubt a lower octane fuel will increase fuel economy. I'm a bit suprised you mention that "lower octane lasts 20% longer in our cars", but like I said....let us know. ;)
  23. Excellent! thanks amf B) I thought they did, but just double checking. ;)
  24. Why not try going to Mobil 1 5w30? Mobil is a higher regarded oil over Castrol synthetic or dino. Still a good brand of oil mind you. (I use to use Castrol syntech 5W 50 for my older GM products way back). If you look at the technical specifications on the Mobil 1 website, you won't find that much difference between the 5W30 & 5W40 oils......the '0' will flow slightly better than the '5' grade....but you would have to live at either the North or South pole for it to be any benefit. The '40' grade might be a tad too thick with the current milage you have on your IS. B) www.mobil1.com
  25. Agreed branshew.....bottom line I guess is what & when is enough horsepower & torque enough? I would guarantee that (for the sake of arguement anyways) that if Lexus ever produced a 450 hp & 450 lb's ft of torque ES......there would be some people out there that would post a simular thread asking if one can squeeze a 10% increase out of that as well. But as it is... B) As bran suggested, if the ES is not enough......go to the GS 430.....still not enough? Start saving for the Chrysler four twelve concept as it has 850 HP & torque numbers. B) ;)
