  1. Tirerack is a good site but does not cover ALL the tires you should be considering (the Toyo's I suggested as an example)....try www.tiretrends.com for reviews on Toyo's. The Goodyear triple tread is the flagship if the assurance line & is a step up from the comfort tread. It's a better tire & the price reflects it. Let us know what you decided & good luck. B)
  2. What is the exact size you need for your snow tires? I can suggest better choices with that info. B)
  3. A 94 or 95 would be more than $3000 unless it's got extremely high milage or has been in a serious accident or is in rough shape. Good luck! B)
  4. You will risk voiding your factory warranty with wheels that size.....you better check with your dealer before you go ahead with something like that. You add un-necessry weight & could mess up the odometer.
  5. My 01 ES has the same feature.....it was either standared equipment starting with the 00 or 01 model years....I am not 100% if you can get one installed in your older ES. Contact your Lexus dealer to ask them. B)
  6. In that size, it appears the Michelin is the best available for your needs. B)
  7. Agreed! Get both fluids from the Lexus/Toyota dealer. There are 2 coolants one is called 'long life' which is red & the other is fairly new called 'super long life' & is pink. Double check with your dealer & a 50/50% mixture is the best mixture. B)
  8. Are they factory 18's made by Lexus?
  9. The K & N for my 01 ES is the exact size & is installed the exact same way as a paper filter. B)
  10. Agreed sw! Several people at my work have the dunlops & are not happy with them for a number of reasons, including what you said. The Proxes TPT's also have a 51 psi max pressure rating. B)
  11. I tried the 31 & 32 psi...found them a tad to soft for my liking. I went to 34 & it's perfect! Tread wear is wearing as it should......experement & see what is to your liking. B)
  12. I'd still go with either the Toyo or Yokohams over the Michelin....just as good a tire (if not better) for much cheaper. :)
  13. Well that is a possibility....but why risk it?? In this members opinion some might go till 150k miles & others might only last 90k depending on many factors, why wait till it fails with you possibly being stranded & causing severe damage to the vehicle? Excercise on the side of caution & get it replaced....Fram has a good slogan: "pay a little now or a lot later". B) :whistles:
  14. I agree with SW. The only thing I will add is the black colour for the interior & exterior is going to be tough to keep clean (especially if you are subject to the northern winter months with the salted roads). There is nothing nicer than a spotless black car.....but keeping it that way is another story....just wanted to give you my 2 cents. Good luck! B)
  15. First off welcome to the club! B) Nice to see a fellow Canadian purchasing a Lexus. The best advice I have is simple for an ES of that model year. First do you have any history on the car? IE: how many owners, repair, service / warranty history? How many owners? Do you have a reliable mechanic you can take the car to, in order to check the mechanical condition? Find out if the vehicle has ever been in an accident (you can purchase a used vehicle info package at the local ministry of transportation). Check with your insurance company to see how much it will be to insure the car (the under 25 crowd get hammered with the premiums in Ontario......perhaps put it in your parents name with you as an occasional driver to keep the rates down). Any more questions, feel free to ask & good luck! B)
  16. I put all 4 tires at 34 psi for my 01 ES & I get an excellent blend of good comfort & decent handling (because of the AVS suspension) with my Toyo Proxes TPT's (V speed rated). Get your self a digital tire pressure gauge as well.....they are worth their weight in gold! B)
  17. What do you mean by a solution exactly?
  18. I recommend the following: Toyo Proxes TPT (you can get either 'H' or 'V' speed rating depending on what you like), Yokohama H4S or V4S, Yokohama Avid Touring, Goodyear Assurance Triple tread, & Michelin Hydroedge (Michelins are pricy mind you). Those are the very best available if you want a very smooth, quiet, comfortable ride. Let us know what you decided, good luck! B)
  19. I use either the Mobil 1 filter or the K & N oil filter. B)
  20. Looking forward to seeing the pics bran! I put the same shade all around mine as well (20%). I single shade looks best! B)
  21. I take my 01 ES to my independent mechanic (it's still under factory warranty & also a Lexus extended warranty). I keep ALL detailed service records should I ever have a problem to prove no neglect was involved. As long as there is proof of service (I only bring the car to the dealer for warranty work or if something MAJOR happens that needs to be taken there) with bills & records, you will be fine. B)
  22. The ES is the larger, roomier & more comfortable overall if your family is a consideration in the decision. I find the IS is more for the performance minded driver as it's rear drive. If you want a bit more of a 'sporty' feel to the ES, you might want to consider getting the factory AVS (adjustabe variable suspension) system so you can adjust the firmness of the suspension & have it more sporty when your by yourself & softer with the family. I have that feature on my 01 ES & love it. Good luck & welcome to the club! B)
  23. Thought this was a very intresting (not to mention upsetting) & important slide show. Please turn on your speakers to listen as well as view. Click the link below: http://www.911digitalarchive.org/diganimba...ked/index1.html
  24. Not to mention how the tires have been maintained with proper rotations & air pressure. What factors are important to you when shopping for new tires? ie: long treadwear, wet weather traction, off roading etc?
  25. What is the exact size tire you need for your LS? Now you say quiet is all your looking for, what about long milage?
