  1. I put 9000 miles on a brand new Porsche 944 in three weeks. That's a bit over 400 miles per day on average. It was a circular round trip of the country in 1994. Lots of 100+ mph stretches. I know this is a Lexus forum but you asked.
  2. Does this fix apply to the RX350 as well? I hadn't heard of it before this post.
  3. How about his ESPN commercial that was a self-parody? It was classic and I actually re-ran it several times on TiVo to pick up all of the subtle nuances and tongue-in-cheek references. In any case, since his style was so successful there is sure to be a replacement. Hopefully, not the "Sham-Wow" guy. They have a video playing of him in the local Costco above the Sham-Wow display.
  4. I guess some would find that funny. Not me.
  5. That is a common observation. They just seem to do that.
  6. Just use the handle. Bend the hook on the hanger if it does not swivel.
  7. Vote Libertarian. The rants on this site in several different threads point straight to the Libertarian platform.
  8. Here is a radar detector test from 2007 comparing the BEL and Valentine. Escort and BEL are now the same company. There have been software updates since then of course. http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=100542 Here is a test from 2008: http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=9090
  9. OK, I'm convinced. Try this link: http://rx300how2.home.comcast.net/~rx300ho...ar_detector.htm The moonroof area electrical connections should be the same or at least very similar.
  10. It depends if you want an ignition-controlled power feed or a constant power feed that requires the detector to be turned on and off manually. Then it depends on how the car's accessories are wired. On an RX the cigarette lighter is ignition-controlled so the power wire to it can be used if you want automatic on/off. Ground is right there as well. It is not clear why you'd want a hardwired connection when the cigarette lighter is so convenient and the detector can be swapped with other vehicles without purchasing another power cord. New Escorts outperform the Valentine but that is another topic
  11. We are talking about the format of how the topic, and related posts are displayed. It used to be you click on the topic, and then you can see all of the related posts in a paged fashion. Now I only see the "Posts in this topic" a summary type view... Try going to the top of the forum underneath the header and banner on the right side. Do you see an "options" button? click on that and see if maybe your in outline mode. Make sure your using the standard format. OOOOH, that was it.
  12. Odd. It did that for a few days about a month ago and then went back to the regular format with all of the messages and replies displayed consecutively. Maybe it is a browser issue. I use Firefox 3.0.10 without the issue. Yes, it was quite irritating.
  13. Generally, Costco is great. I had a tire go flat and it was some time down the highway before it was noticed. I pumped it up at a gas station, for a quarter , and drove straight to Costco. They said that the tire had "run-flat" damage and could not be repaired. They sold me a new tire at a pro-rated price so I guess it was an OK deal in the end. Costco has some surprisingly high quality tires to offer. They don't like to vary from the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation at all so search their website for what they will sell. It must be a liability thing.
  14. We all want to feel that our cars are "special". When I got mine I wanted a forum dedicated to it as well. Look at the dates of the posts on the RX forum and you will see that there are not many. There is plenty of room for the 2010 model.
  15. The engine is tuned to use premium fuel. It will "detune" when using lower grade gasoline so the engine will not be damaged (by valve knock). Thus, there will be less power and performance. Lower grade gas can be used but be prepared for sluggish performance as knock is detected and timing is retarded. It is not a pleasant circumstance when merging onto a freeway or passing on a two-lane highway. The savings between the grades of gas is really not significant unless many, many miles are driven. If you have enough money to buy a Lexus you should be able to affort the recommended gas. The RX 350 forum is large enough to contain comments about the 2010 model. It is not at all crowded. Plus, the 2010 shares many components with earlier models while admittedly there are cosmetic differences. This doesn't seem to be the correct place for this thread so a moderator out there may want to move it.
  16. There is no "old" converter (junction block) to replace. It is an additional item that has to be plugged in to the car's circuitry and then the hitch wiring plugged into it. Perhaps there is someone on this forum that has actually installed the part that can give you a hint on where the pigtail to plug it in is located. My RX has the tow package and am not sure where it is. Another option is to take the car and converter to a Lexus (Toyota) dealer with the cargo area still disassembled and say, "How much to plug this in?". It can't be very much. Well, that is if you go to a Toyota dealership rather than a Lexus one.
  17. You have to buy a separate junction box if the RX did not have a tow package. The directions with the box will tell you where to plug it in. There is also a fuse in the fuse box that may need to be purchased and installed to get electric to the hitch. Where did you plug in the hitch under the cargo area? There shouldn't be a connector that fits the one that comes on the hitch. Also, the hitch cannot be just spliced into the car's electric because of voltage differences. You will not get 12V at the hitch with a splice. Check this post for the part number of the converter (junction box assembly). The part number may vary by year but it is a start. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...ic=39543&hl
  18. Opinion, opinion. :P Consider the Tundra in the 1/2 ton class. (I currently own a Ford F150, BTW. In the past there have been F250s, and F350s as well. OK, a Ford Ranger, too, but that is not a real truck.)
  19. Buy the recent Consumers' Reports. It is their auto issue and has repair data and a wealth of other information about foreign and domestic cars and trucks. For the matter of why foreign car manufacturers are better than American car manufacturers you may need another source. That is, if the debate topic is expanded to include the intent of the business. It is a matter of process vs. product. On the other hand, dealing with both aspects may strengthen the point.
  20. Another source of information is your local Waste Management company. OK, trash collector. Call them and see what their policy is about used oil. In our area the trash collector will take a one gallon container of oil each week but only in one of their containers that they drop off the week before - usually an old milk carton. So six quarts will take 3 weeks to discard. It is much easier to haul the oil to some free place that accepts it.
  21. Wow I didn't know SpeedBleeder would do that! Talk about customer service. That seems like the most viable option, thanks for posting that. It is a nice service by the company but you may want to consider the cost of shipping it to them and the amount of down time while the caliper goes back and forth. My first recommendation, taking it to a machine shop, may actually be faster and cheaper. Taking the caliper off really isn't that much of a job. Having done it before, or having a friend that has done that work, is a big help.
  22. Remove the caliper and take it to a machine shop. Ask at just about any auto parts store where a good machine shop is located.
  23. Yah, 142 mph makes it a real snail. Don't know how such nonperformance can be tolerated. How about the IS-F if speed is really needed? Perhaps a Porsche 911GT would fit the bill as well. Last time I checked 142mph is pretty damn fast....when I had my 350Z I got it up to 150mph and that was pretty intense and was on a long stretch of I-10. You would never want to do anything but head in a forward motion at that speed. I doubt either of you have honestly ever gotten a car up that fast....because you would NOT call it a snail. Evidently, sarcasm doesn't come across very clearly in posts. And you are correct, I have only reached 122 mph in a Porsche 944 one night on a Nevada highway in open range country. Those big black blobs on the side of the road went by really quickly and the headlights were being overdriven by at least 200 yards. Needless to say, the speed was backed off quite a bit after that experience. The RX only makes it to 111 mph before it chokes. Also on a Nevada highway.
