  1. like Freak said......the octane/gas grade has been talked about many times in the past, just do a little search and you'll find everything you need to know, as well as all the members advice. about the other issues you might want to start a specific topic question to get those exact problems addressed by the members. ;)
  2. a dremmel is a good investment, it is soooo verstile, and fun to use as well......but anywho :D i had a buddy who bought that headlight restorer on ebay and said it worked awesome. so you might give it a try here is one of many links to it on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...9&category=6755
  3. oh i forgot you're a know it all.....my fault, what was i thinking adding the little knowledge i have??, i should have known better......... :whistles: #26 lasts me about 4 months, it works great for MY application.......i hate messing with paste wax
  4. i'm doing that this weekend on my LS, i have a conical filter and a 3" adapter on its way, i already made cardboard templates for heat shields, now i'm just looking for the right material to use i might work on a closed box set up for it to fit in, i bought another OE air box and tubing to fool around with, and cut up........ ( i want to keep it stock looking though), but i might just have it in the open with just heat shields (heat shields are the key) , i don't know yet .....but there is an opening between the radiator and the foglights for the cold air to come through as well as where the stock air comes through (just under the hood,, that is perfect to use, so i'll try to route that with the OE intake tubing from the front that goes into the air box to get a tight fit, (its almost already the right shape just have to flip it sidways, with a little modifitcation it should be a tight fit............. if i can get that to work, i'll have 2 routes for cold air..... so i'll just see what happens. <_< i'll report back with pics on how it goes.......
  5. agreed :D ..............i too have tried both and i stick with the NXT, its far supperior than Nano. (but with that kind of ,marring and damage, he'll need a buffer or rotary to fix that, there is no 2 ways about it) that is if it can be fixed, you might even have to wet sand that.......... i've successfully removed 2000 grit with my PC with a cutting pad and DACP (globby touch up paint) looks great. just have to use cautiously, and with light pressure. i've found the NXT just works better, hides great, buffs off easy, and smells great too :P ..... (doesn't really last all that long, but gives a great depth of shine) then i top it off with # 26 to seal her up, that prodcut lasts a lot longer then the synthetics..... i haven't got more than 3 weeks outta NXt with 2-3 coats (but i have very dark paint) how long have you all got outta NXT? , but the shine and depth of gloss makes up for it........you just have to seal it up with somthing more ridged for longevity.
  6. use stoners no streak glass cleaner (areosol can), its the best stuff. works great, no streaks, and it should take that crap off of the windows as well...... :D
  7. i here that, i think everyone pretty much has a full schedule most of the time......but if you can just find time for a one day deditcaton for your car's paint it would help out tremendously, once every 6 months, with a full on detail and you'll be fine......clay and buff and polish and put a nice couple of coats of sealant on and your in business.......then just randomly use wax as you dry.. after you wash her and your set. ;) then you can just apply more sealant down the road every couple of months (only takes about an hour for that)...thats what i usually do.......its all about the knocking the prep outta the way, get all the contaminents off the paint and such....for a smooth finish then seal her up........
  8. try mothers aluminum mag polish you can get it any any pepboys ect...for about 3-4 dollars......thats what i use i works great........ if it won't work by hand, bring out the ole dremmel tool on a low letting 2-3......i've done that method many times with crystal clear results.
  9. anything by hand isn't gonna touch that, trust me..........at best it will MAYBE hide it for a little while, but i doubt it will even do that.... PC or Rotary is the only thing that will fix that
  10. they aren't cheap.........i would first try some local salvage yards, or try ebay....here is a list of some online Lexus used/new part sources that have great prices http://www.lexpartsonline.com/ http://www.autonetwork.org/ http://www.taprecycling.net/ http://lexuspartsmall.com/
  11. man that looks awefull :( but its nothing that can't be fixed :D you need to invest in a porter cable 7424 and get some different pads as well as different products........anything by hand isnt' gonna touch that (long term, if at all), especially it being so old and neglected i have a 92 and my car does not have 1 scratch, swirl, cobweb, or anything after i did her up with the PC a couple of times (but my shine was always very good, as i pride myself in it).......it sereiously looks like a brand new car, no lie.....i get complements all the time on the shine of my car..... and its 12 YEARS OLD!!! if you need more details on what prodcuts and pads to get or where to get the buffer, just shoot me a pm and i'll tell you everything...... it really is a must have more enthusiasts that want their car to look its best at all times........
  12. i personally change my plugs every year as well as all my fluids, ie....coolant flush.....ect..........its definately overkill, but it surely doesn't hurt, to have fresh parts and fluids in the car at all times..... but i'm a car nut, and i love working on my car, thats what i do for fun in my spare time, so its not a problem for me....... you probably don't need to change anything.....like someone mentioned above i've heard of just changing the oil and air filter for the cars whole life and it being fine....(i wouldn't reccomend doing that though) its a lot easier to maintane your car when you love doing it..........just my 2 cents i'm sure you'll figure out your own method that works, good luck
  13. that i VERY dangerous. i wouldn't drive that car like that you need to take it in to the shop ASAP
  14. suspension problems are very common with older LS's. you can do the brake maintence easily on your own.. some of the suspension work can be tricky as well on some procedures you need specialialty tools that can be rented.... i would check a independent shop for quotes on susupension work.....you can check our workshop/tutorial section as well and see what you can find for help if you are going to try DIY. Below are some online links for cheaper lexus parts you can look at. http://www.lexpartsonline.com/ http://www.irontoad.com/l_home.htm http://lexuspartsmall.com/ http://www.taprecycling.net/
  15. yeah the torque converter would be what i would have looked at first. sounds pretty severe you could have burned the tranny up though, although tranny problems are not very common with the LS. what does the tranny fluid look/smell like?
  16. i would choose the G35, even if the ES330 was on the list (even though Lexus is hands down the best made car, IMO) with short throw 6 speed, and AWD, sport tuned suspension. and almost 300 HP out of the (optional) manual tranny, 3.5 V6, it would be fun to drive for sure i'm just not a huge fan of the ES model (even though it is a GREAT car).....but thats just my opinion....... hope everyone has a nice thanksgiving
  17. yeah you just need to replace that bulb i had the same problem with a plasma purple kyrpton bulb 2 years ago, they low beam went out but the high still worked........ i just replaced the bulb, and everything worked fine <_< actually i put in the silverstar 9004st bulbs, i have been running the same bulbs for 2 years or so now, with no burnouts....... and i drive with with my lights on ALL the time......they are good bulbs. and the thing i liked about them is the longer you use them the brighter they get, its wierd, i also noticed that they emitt a purple outter ring on the beam pattern now, looks very cool.......very pleased with silverstar bulbs.
  18. Meguiar's has a detailing tour or detailing Seminar that goes around the country to various locations that offer that kind of thing just go to the website and look and see where their stops are: here is the link http://www.meguiars.com/events.cfm
  19. HOT water with a little solvent, just be sure to hose it off pretty quick..... Goop Off works really good as well BTW what kind of headlight bulbs do you have in that pic?
  20. agreed.................my car is only in the garage when i'm at home, so its parked outside at work, and all every day.........as i live in the south with the heat and humidity in the summers and the upredictable winters...........as well as the color of my car is black jade so it definately pulls the sun in i wax my car about every 2-3 months. and do a full on 4 or 5 step process about every six months.
  21. i have a 92 with about 145k on her.........makes no noise whatsever.......silent as a baby sleeping they are the quietest cars out there, properly maintained.....
  22. struts are a good place to start. but if you think they are good........ another thing i would definately check with those symptons are the ball joints...they are probably really worn. good luck
  23. dammmm thats a heck of a deal very very nice find......good work. have any pics of her?
  24. exaclty.........good point............maybe thats when i'll step up to the Gen3 or maybe '02 or so...... B) the LS i very seriously doubt is gonna look anyting like that......i think i saw the concept and it was kinda like the new 430 (big body luxury) hey Agent do you have HID's on your 99? in know the HID and Navi combo is pretty rare to find, but if i'm stepping up i'm gonna get nothing less
