  1. yeah... Jeff's the man... It would be great if I could just leave my car at Jeff's place for a few months just so he could drive it and see what a crime against humanity it is to have such a slow GS... then hopefully he'd take pity on me and work his magic.
  2. ok... so its not a flux capacitor... hurry up with those pics... and $400 to take it off sounds kinda steep... if its not doing anything leave it there until its time to change your shocks and springs... or if you want to play it safe buy a set of shocks and springs and just have those put on.... i may have a set for sale if you're interested.
  3. On the bright side... at least its running and all the issues have been resolved... consider it just an overpriced tuneup that you would've needed to do anyway... at least its not engine problems.
  4. Welcome to the club and congrats on the acquisition.
  5. I think you'd probably be the first on this forum... let us know how it goes... take pics!
  6. He's right, it can be done... they just don't feel like, or don't know how to do it.... I'd be glad to refer you to my installer for anyone in the NYC/Long Island area that wants it done.
  7. if the head gaskets are blown.. there is a chance the the head is warped... you can have the head machined but i personally wouldn't bother... if the head isn't warped you can just change the gasket and buy you some more time with the vehicle... or you can probably get a good used engine if the car is worth the work... http://www.aa1car.com/library/2005/ic010532.htm I'd look into different gasket materials... the gasket is a common issue with that engine so i would hope someone devised a more permanent fix for it.
  8. Thanks for the tip dens, I actually found a great deal a couple of weeks ago for another friend a 95 Acura Legend Coupe with 75k miles in great condition for $3000 with about $5k work of audio and video work customized trunk ect. When we test drove the car it developed a small coolant leak so we managed to knock off another $400. The leak was from a $12 hose. The car runs great. Now I just have to see if I can have that kind of luck again, the only problem is people are grabbing up fuel efficient cars probably because they know $2gal gas isn't going to be around for long and some people are just asking ridiculous prices for Camry's, Corollas, and all those other bullet proof fuel miser vehicles on the market. If she's still interested I'll have my mechanic/autobody friend take a look at it... but i agree the scion can still be up for consideration if repairs were done properly. Thanks again.
  9. just like bartkat said... sounds like a leaky valve cover gasket but i would think that it would cause a misfire and not stop the car from starting all together.
  10. lol, knowing my luck a cop would see me taking the cones out of my trunk and then put a dent in me rodney king style.
  11. Thanks for the replies guys, I had a friend at a used car dealership abuse his powers (dealerships are closing down left and right in NY)... looks like the car is that cheap for a reason... two front end accidents... I think I'll just avoid it all together and continue my.. well her search. Thanks again!
  12. the knocking stopped after a minute... if it happens again tomorrow morning I'll try to isolate it.. hopefully it doesn't
  13. Thanks to you guys and the paint fumes in my house, I'll sleep a lot better tonight. Thanks again.
  14. ha! did that already... it was a long flight back from Switzerland ... now that i said that.. i'm sure it will never happen again.
  15. I've been driving my 4runner this past week and my GS has just been sitting for the past 4 days in 30 to 40 degree weather. I went to start my car a few minutes ago and I heard a horrible knocking sound from the engine. I turned it off immediately, checked the oil, pulled the timing belt cover, saw nothing out of the ordinary so I started it up again and the noise gradually got quieter then went away. Is this a sign of immanent engine death or anything or just cold oil working its way up to the engine... I'm a little worried... but if it does mean I need a new engine.. I'm going for a 2jz-gte swap....
  16. I'm pretty certain you can just get a good used transmission on put it in for less than that.... I can't say if they're being honest or not without actually taking a look at the car but you can always check your states department of consumer affairs to see how they stand in terms of complaints. sounds a lil sketchy to me though....
  17. hehehe :D thanks for the compliments on my art work, but I still don’t know if I should just leave it alone or ask my mechanic to take it off? Or should I take pitcher and comeback later? take a pic maybe its actually something hightech from the future that fell off a delorean.
  18. I agree.. judging from the caveman drawings that is the best I can decipher..
  19. YAY! :D This forum has helped me expand my knowledge and appreciation of some of the finest cars on the road today. I'm glad I stumbled upon it. Thanks guys.
  20. All arguments aside... chances are if you're buying a battery that it was probably produced by Johnson Controls Battery Group... only about 3 companies produce most of the batteries on the market with Johnson Controls being the largest of the 3. They make the Optima Brand, as well as the toyota brand batteries and hundreds of other "brands" that you may pick up anywhere. The Panasonic Batteries are made in Japan... by Panasonic as far as I know. However their performance has not been spectacular in my experience but I live in a climate that gets extreme high and low temperatures and that does effect a battery. I personally would not pay extra for something that doesn't perform any better but if you do find a Panasonic (not toyota/truestart) brand battery for around the same price as others I'd consider it. Then again you only got about 3 years out of your OEM battery... so the choice is yours, just know that lots of batteries have a full replacement warranty of at least 2 years, many have a full 3 year with prorated warranties after that. " The award was given to Johnson Controls to recognize its 100 percent on-time-delivery and order fulfillment for the original equipment automotive batteries it supplies to the automaker. In 1998, Johnson Controls shipped 225,000 batteries to Toyota. While Toyota battery orders have increased each year, Johnson Controls has continued its perfect fulfillment record. Johnson Controls supplies automotive batteries to Toyota for the original equipment market under the Toyota brand name." Johnson Controls also makes - [sears' DieHard, Auto Zone's Duralast, Wal*Mart's EverStart, Motorcraft, Optima, etc. Starting]
  21. its actually just one vehicle being sold by a private seller at a disturbingly cheap price, I guess I'll fork out the $40. I think its the second of the two VIN's an 06 Scion TC with 48k miles for around $8k... or something like that.
  22. I'll paypal you $5... cmon its a recession times are hard. :o
