  1. Step one... slap your mechanic and find another! I don't even think a dealer would charge that much... Step Two... look here... http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...=valve+body+diy http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116654 both of these DIY threads should help you out. The VCG is fairly straight forward although i think you need to use Toyota FIPG for this job. I hope someone can chime in on this.
  2. damn... i would've sold you my sub and amp for $50 each....
  3. If what I heard about tankers being diverted away from the suez canal and around africa... be prepared to dig deep into those pockets again...
  4. wow $1200 is a lot of money... but the parts online from one of many online OEM parts vendors and get it done at a reputable shop.
  5. Are you sure your car is on, and in park, and your foot is not on the brake when you try the memory seats? Also are you sure that the bulb is just no blown on the dome light? The doors do lock by themselves when you put the car in drive.... What do you mean the computer doesn't recognize them?
  6. I found a 96 SC400 with 109k that runs very well but has a horrible paint job. The interior looks a little suspicious because of a few broken panels but the seats are in alright condition. I test drove the car and the shifts were smooth, there were no strange noises, vibrations or clunks. The fluids were ok and the transmission fluid although a little dirty did not smell burnt or anything like that. The brakes felt a litte soft and the alighnment was off as the car pulled to the right. The owner wants $3250. Sounds like a great deal but I need to run a carfax on it first. Is there anything I missed that I should have inspected? The seller bought it at a dealer auction and apparently does this for a living. The other car I looked at was a 94 Acura Legend with 75k, runs well same condition cosmetically as the SC. Both cars are two doors, both are due for a timing belt and tune up, and both need a transmission fluid exchange. I know this site may be biased but what would you do? Both cars are also about the same price and the Legend includes a very nice audio system that I would part out to recover some of the cost. If anyone has a carfax account and can check these vins out i'd appreciate it JT8CH32Y9T0050702 JH4KA8270RC000315 __________________
  7. I have a 2000 solara with the same v6 engine... toyota extended my warranty should sludge become an issue after a class action lawsuit... I pulled my Valve Covers the other day at at 60k... it looks clean... I only use full synthetics though... I think the warranty extension applied to lexus vehicles also.
  8. If you check out clublexus.com and check the NELOC section or Northeast Section We do have occasion meets... just not any on the winter. Its a great time to meet other owners, network, and just check out some nice rides.
  9. That's so sad, my condolences to the family.
  10. alternators die out of no where... i may or may not be coincidental... how many miles on the car, what year is it? If the car started up though it still should have at least run... not going more than 5 miles an hour seems a little strange... i hope they didn't fudge your timing and wreck your engine... What part of NY are you in?
  11. $1900 is steep.... The hood isn't being replaced right, its just being "refinished"? and lexus paint is special??? if anything its less durable due it its green friendly low VOC content. ... but I guess thats what you got to pay for dealer service.... to repaint my entire car including fixing a few dings here and there to match lexus code 202 but using PPG paint cost me about $1200... but then again, i don't have an LS460... p.s. your friend doesn't really sound like much of a friend... he probably has full insurance anyway..... if anything call up a few insurance companies... geico ect. and see what shops they certify... ask them for a ballpark figure... keep in mind that their prices are often higher because they bill the insurance company....
  12. when do they come on? If its when you first turn the car on then its normal... but if it comes on when you're driving, applying the brakes, or just sitting there then something is up.
  13. I prefer Tannabe Springs since they offer a few options in terms of drops and feel. if you're on a budget... this is actually a decent deal if you want to do a moderate drop... US $329.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KYB-SHOCKS-...sQ5fAccessories
  14. get under there and take a look... there's no telling what popped loose under the abuse.. could be a return line... could be a seal...
  15. I went to the dealership today but for some reason they said they were having computer problems and couldn't look up the parts... Anyone know the part number so I can call up another Lexus dealership and save the hassle.
  16. The easiest way to do the steering fluid is the syphon out the old fluid, top it off with new DexIII transmission fluid, start the car, let it circulate... and repeat a few times. This is not the most efficient method, but it is the easiest. I used Mobil1 synthetic ATF in my power steering system. As far as the brake fluid goes you'll need to bleed your brakes. There are plenty of DIY post on this forum and clublexus.com
  17. considering i remove this panel more often than i should... i really should change the bulbs next time i'm in there... i guess I'll just have to make that trip to lexus for new bulbs though....
  18. hopefully you don't have sludge... pull the valve cover and take a look... run some seafoam through there to quiet down the sticky lifters...
  19. there is also carson toyota and used parts vendors on clublexus (aliga) I've purchased stuff from him before, he's good to do business with.
  20. despite the abuse of NY roads, and me constantly ripping out the interior of my car... I've got no squeaks at all on my 02 gs200... no rattles either...
  21. I'm also consuming what I consider to be a lot of oil... I suspect a VCG leak, but until i get around to looking at it I can't be sure... I need to add a qt about every 2500 miles...
  22. all of mine are burnt out.... <_< sometimes i hit that switch trying to turn on the seat heaters...
  23. if its a dealer part use sewell lexus or carson toyota... don't walk into a dealer and buy one... they will bend you over without any vaseline.... I think its $290 after shipping from carson toyota... http://www.l-tunedparts.com http://www.sewellpartsonline.com or even irontoad.com
  24. see if a jump start would start the car... It sounds like the starter is turning... possibly a faulty alternator... pull it out and have it checked...
  25. I would suspect either a Vacuum Leak or Faulty MAF sensor but i'm only about 20% sure about that.... as far as the other code you need to replace your bank2 sensor 1 oxygen sensor... none of this is exceptionally hard or time consuming but any mechanic is probably going to try to charge you an arm and a leg for the labor and parts....
