  1. That could be just oil from the front valve cover...I would get the front valve cover removed and check for sludge, especially if the car doesnt seem right. You dont even want to go near a sludged engine.
  2. I was not able to get Costco to budge on their policy, I even offered A Lexus release...They are lacking... One way around it is to take wheels off and take them to Costco and have them put tires on them. Their policy is rediculous, I try to go eleswhere now...
  3. Is it a Certified Pre-Owned? I'm guessing not with 88K as it would only give you 12K on the warranty...any ideas how many years you have until the hybrid battery has to be replaced? I heard it's a max of 8 years. Yes only 12k miles left, but from what I have seen and since I am a previous RX300 owner, I feel it should be a good car in the long run...As for the battery (hybrid) who knows, I see some pruis owners with over 400k miles and still going on original battery..Hey for paying less than half price, a battery would be bad, but still make the car worth the purchase....after all it lost over 24k in equity when I purchased.... Agreed - you cannot beat the deal on Pre-Owned vs. a new Lexus. I'm just wondering why it took me so long to figure it out... Heck took me 40 years to figure that out, man have I wasted a lot of money.... :whistles:
  4. You wonder if they really dissassembled it. or just threw cleaner at it and there was still sludge in the pan, which starved the oil pump...Also was synthetic used or dino.? The commute has a lot to do with it too. If the engine never really gets warmed up (short commute under 5 miles) than moisture could have been the culprit...That is what happened to my Neighbors highlander engine even though oil had been changed religously... by the way the planetary gear failure Is what I was told was failing at my local independent...Hope he put in the new steel carrier with six gears instead of 4.
  5. look here at the bottom of the list for stereo removeal... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58929
  6. Tried the woolite yesterday, it does a marvelous job of cleaning...Just need a hot day for the leatherique.......(conditioning)
  7. Several years ago I started troubleshooting a very weird harmonic noise coming somewhere from the bottom of car...I tried drive shafts, wheel bearings, control arms...nothing seemed to fix it...my next shot was going to be the drive shaft center support bearings going to the rear axle...fast forward I sold my car, and the new owners have kept in touch and just replaced the bearings after asking my opinion..The vibration is gone....Just thought I would post this to help others in coming up with a solution...The car was a 99 with 188k miles.. :whistles:
  8. unofficial, probably oil change, filter, brake fluid flush, Timing belt....(major) If doing the timing belt suggest idlers and waterpump.....
  9. From my experience and history, Japan is not the same as other countries...They will not only survive, but come back quicker than any other nation in the world...Hey that is why we buy cars from Japan...
  10. Hey one way to look at it, is that the last of a generation has most of the bugs worked out...
  11. might just be build up on the disk, I have had success of taking emery paper and doing a once over in circular motion around the entire disk surface, front and back...takes the debris off. Then make sure your guide pins are lubed, and also the tabs where the pads touch the caliper mounting hardware...Cheap try to your problem..If it doesnt work than replace the disk...
  12. Go to this site and go to the body section and search: http://www.lexuspartsnow.com/Page_Product/PartDetail.aspx?model=LX470&year=2005&catalogCode=792450&VAID=4399&selectConditions=()&goBack=false&sectionID=3&isBigPicture=False&componentsID=75-52&componentsIndex=39
  13. When you replaced sensor did you use Denso OE or aftermarket.?
  14. Yes, of course Toyota is an alternative....Same car as a highlander....basically...just dont expect free water and donuts in the waiting room..(however cheaper)
  15. Is it a Certified Pre-Owned? I'm guessing not with 88K as it would only give you 12K on the warranty...any ideas how many years you have until the hybrid battery has to be replaced? 16. Hey Army, just thank God everyday for waking up....these are just bumps in the road...Sorry that it happened to you in such an overwhelming way...Hey tomorrow will be better, and someday you will look back and laugh...Hope your day goes a whole lot better today...And thank you again for your service...
  17. I would be very suspicious of anybody recommending that...I changed the control arms on my RX300 at 188k miles and 13 years age....Sounds like to me they were fishing for commissions on parts that werent necessary...The Struts should be good for a easy 100k miles or longer..I changed mine previously at 110k miles but frankly it was not necessary. The only bad components were the Upper strut mounts on the front end...
  18. OH man did I loose 50 points....Hey still a great site...I feel more stupid by 50 points...Add that to my common sense and I am batting a 127..... :whistles: funny how folks can grade intellect, but cant balance a budget.....(our government)
  19. Wow, a Caddilac in you I S how wonderful... :whistles:
  20. I just ordered the Beatsonic unit...next the Vais or other ipod connector....
  21. I looked last night, the only bad thing I saw is that the windshield cowl is more over the rear cover than on the RX300...Might have to move the brake cylinder resevoir...I am taking pictures and filing them away...The belt should make an easy 100k miles, but yes you are closer than I am..I only have 89k miles....
  22. NC that is too funny...And yes there is the list of nations that are interested in no fly zone..."Whats up doc" I guess golf and the trip to Rio are just more important....
  23. Look here at part 87165 for $165 http://www.lexuspartsnow.com/Page_Product/PartDetail.aspx?model=RX400H&year=2008&catalogCode=524410&VAID=2386&selectConditions=(0=MHU38L-AWXGKA)&sectionID=4&isBigPicture=False&componentsID=87-14&componentsIndex=37 it is listed under electrical, then heating and airconditioning cooler unit....goes for $153
  24. Any good synthetic oil would be fine 0-30weight Castrol is what I used. But just make sure it is synthetic as these engines are prone to sludge...With filter they hold 5 quarts...I like the new Mobil 1 0-20 also....
  25. I used them on my RX300 front and rear...KYB are very similiar to OEM shocks....
