  1. YOu know, the RX400h is everything nicer....Great road car, drove to Los Angeles twice (435 miles one way) and just felt wonderful...Gets 25 miles per gallon doing this, much better than the RX300...The unknown is reliability of the hybrid hardware...The tranny (CVT) is a breeze, just drain and fill....And the rear transmission is the same...Glad to hear the Jaguar has been kind to you. I was a Sports car nut when younger and drove everything from Austin Healeys, Triumphs, and yes a Jaguar XKE....back then they were a mechanic nightmare...constantly needing attention...The RX400h had 88k miles on it so I will be doing a timing belt etc. but for the price I couldnt loose...got it for half price..of new. Have a great weekend.
  2. that is fantastic, yes pictures would be great...some of us are willing to try anything to save the wallet....
  3. wow....that is crazy good...
  4. I will say you did a great job, but the Bosch plugs from lots of experience are not good. I would have stuck with the NGK or Denso iridium plugs...Heck they will last 125k miles without even breathing hard. I and many of my fiends, as well as a German Auto garage have found the Bosch plugs fail really early, sometimes within weeks...Sorry friend I do not recommmend them...they have failed in my Honda, Mercedes, and Ford, and my friend at the independent garage says he gets lots of business because of customers whom just changed to them have running and missfire, and he gets the business of finding them and replacing with his choice for the Mercedes and BMW cars. Good luck.
  5. josh you are in the Army, switch to USAA for military members...My son says they always treat him right....
  6. here is the part for less than $100... http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php suggest you find another mechanic...you could have this done for a lot cheaper by the way if the relucter is cracked the sensor is probably good...go to toyota or indepenedent and get the axle changed if the reluctor is bad and probably a lot cheaper....
  7. take a broken hacksaw blade (real short) and saw a flat into the screw, then used a regular screwdriver. Dremel tool would work for this also...
  8. The emergency brake is still dragging...I may just replace them and lube all sliding points...They just dont seem to want to stay clear of the drums on the disk...no matter how I adjust it. However with the disk off, their is no rubbing sound...
  9. I wonder if the switch is bad...or unplugged....
  10. Yea your probably right, doesnt make sense...Great job....
  11. As usual fantastic work, by the way the front emblem on the grill being solid, that supposedly decreases air flow according to Lexus...that is why they had a open emblem...
  12. the Koyo bearing with hub is only around $211 at this site...Buy the part and let him replace it. http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/2008/lexus/rx350/driveshaft_-ar-_axle/wheel_hub_assembly.html here is another place for that part: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php
  13. The warranty was for 8 years 2months...I dont know if you have any recourse other than maybe finding a used good engine and dropping it in.

  15. Go here under the RX300 forums. http://www.box.net/shared/o55c5697lt
  16. The Mobil 1 synthetic is just fine, several on this and the other site have used it. I had it in my tranny for over 50k miles and it worked great...Dropping the pan to see the condition of the tranny filter is a good way to start. If it has the mesh filter, just clean it. If it has the paper filter, replace it. I owned my RX300 (99 AWD) for 186k miles...Have seen it all.
  17. Yep been there on our RX, probably the key fob while in your pocket...If the button is held down a couple of times the windows go all the way down.
  18. Please note there are good and bad dealerships. I would go in and say hey, I service my vehicle here and I expect a goodwill service of these items. They are just not fullfilling the warranty work...Be polite but firm..Then contact Lexus of AMerica...Good luck
  19. I would do as you said and drop pan, change filter, but leave the valve body alone...Do drain and fill only...Toyota Type IV or AMsoil, or Mobil 1 Synthetic fluid for the tranny is just fine...I would also switch to full synthetic for engine oil...The Castrol OIl european synthetic 0-30w is fantastic and really cleans the engine...
  20. The car goes into limp mode (no fourth gear) for some engine related codes, that is why I asked. a Bad Knock sensor, or air/fuel sensor, or bad coil pack could cause this.
  21. Need to know the codes...
  22. the easiest thing is to switch the coil pack from cylinder 4 to another and see if the code changes...The other codes are because of missfires and raw gas going to the converters...
  23. I would suggest replacing the water pump at the same time...I did this job on my daughters Sequoia which has same engine, and replaced timing belt, waterpump, and idler bearings...Got all parts Original equipment on ebay for $250... Maybe buy them and ask dealer to install. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AISIN-Water-Pump-Timing-Belt-Kit-Lexus-SUV-V8-98-09-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aLexusQ7cModelQ3aLX470QQhashZitem3a6486d8aaQQitemZ250794662058QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  24. by the codes you need to fix the missfire first, that could be causing all of the other codes...cylinder four coil pack is probably bad...replace that and reset all codes and you will probably be good to go...
