'10 Rx350 Differential Gasket & Fluid Change?
lenore replied to TeamAstro's topic in 10 - 15 Lexus RX350 / RX450h
I would recommend a drain and fill of the transmission fluid. If that is possible, not familiar with 2010 RX and don't know if they have a drain plug like earlier RXmodels. -
What I meant was the plugs cannot be matched for their quality...Best Plug I have ever used in 50 years.
-
I am so jealous of that collision avoidance system, that is exactly what I need, my reflexes just aren't as good as years ago....Next car...until than I have to drive my RX400h till it is broken in. Only 144k miles so far.....As for the CVT, well it is just outstanding...Love the smooth, powerful response.
-
The original plugs on all RX's were iridium...They just cannot be matched. Good luck with the codes, once we see them we can tell you which way to go. Example of bad coil would be P0301 code which would be cylinder 1.. When there is a misfire, other codes crop up that don't necessarily indicate the problem. We await your troubleshooting.
-
That is weird, would love to see what codes you have. Missfiring on all is not usual. That is why We like to see all codes. The code will tell us which coil, if it is a front of engine one it is a piece of cake to replace, the rears are on the other hand not easy....Replacing that coil, and reset the codes and see what happens. As for plugs, just don't believe it. Unless somebody else changed the plugs and put something other than iridium Denso or NGK plugs in. That is another story. Never use plugs other than the iridium NGK or Denso. They last a long time. Mine have 144k miles and they look great.
-
I would only replace the bad coil. As for the plugs they generally last an easy 125k miles. I would go after the bad coil and stop at that point. I seriously doubt the plugs are bad.

When I was shopping for a truck, that was the first thing that struck both wife and I, the ride. (2wd). For long trips hard to believe but the F150 (2005) is very comfortable, and quiet. The Chevy, Tundra, and Nissan rode like roller skates. I am by no means a Ford guy, but we nixed the Tundra and ended up with the F150 even though it was more money, the room, ride, and looks killed all of the other competition. We have gone over 2500 miles on one trip, and the F150 crewcab is an absolute winner.

Without more info, we can not judge what happened. Remember all dealerships are not equal, just like no two mechanics are perfect. -
hey where is your new wheels Cduluk? Do you miss the RX400h?

Hey welcome....look forward to solving the nation and cars problems.

Mystery Toggle Switch, 2009 Rx 350

Yes I would say that was an add on by previous owner...- 12 replies

I guess it is the mechanical side of my nature that drives me to unfold the mysteries of transmission. The Ford A4ld transmission that I rebuilt was (really complicated because of the electronics) or that is what I was told by shops that were charging $2400. What I found was an additional solenoid to operate the Overdrive. Six speeds are just more disks and solenoids. As for CVT well that is just a totally different beast. Mechanics in dealerships don't have the time to rebuild trannies, they are on flat rate labor, and when the extra time is needed they rush past it.
-
I uncovered the mystery of a automatic transmission years ago, my son's Ford Ranger with a failing transmission needed to be rebuilt, very expensive at the time we are talking $2400 and this was over 20 years ago. I kept asking why so much and the reply was because it has a lot of electronics in it. Well, being me, I took it on, researched, obtained a book, and rebuilt it myself completely with all new solenoids, clutch packs, and torque converter...Total cost $300. I made some of the specialized tools to make adjustments, and that transmission was as smooth as silk. The Valve body assembly is very intricate, but with pictures and thorough cleaning and replacement of key components I got past it. Yes It did take me two weeks, (after work and weekends) but the mystery of complicated disappeared. Lots of hype and lots of profit in that business. The local shop had a really good mechanic, he paid by the piece and the guy only had one return over a 5 year period. The owner loved this guys work and paid him very well, but the rule was it comes back the commission was deducted from his pay. Great incentive to do it right.
-
Yes they are complicated, but they aren't rocket science. A individual with pride in his work can do a great job. Locally I met a shop owner that knew all of the weak points in the RX300 tranny and only rebuilt with reliability in mind. That is how I learned the original RX300 tranny had a very weak design for such a heavy vehicle. They used a aluminum carrier in the planetary gear assembly and after miles the steel gears and shafts would oval out the carrier causing major failure. My RX300 was fixed using a factory rebuilt and it was substandard and I fought Lexus of America for 3 months telling them the car was not shifting correctly. Finally they replaced the Factory rebuilt and problem went away. So beware even those factory rebuilts may not be perfect.

That sounds bad. Did you check the engine oil? Sounds like something broke, maybe the timing belt and you have something major going on....Or maybe something simple. Maybe the starter is shot and not cranking the engine. Have a helper turn key and see if the belts are moving.
-
Yep, that is what Lexus calls loyalty...Unless they do all service, they don't like to help...Been there and done that.
-
Wow, sounds like a great vehicle, I too have looked at the Highlander Hybrid...I do love my Hybrid RX400h, but have been driving the heck out of it. 144k miles now.
-
What kind of mileage does it get. Good choice, I have always liked the Sienna....I so want that collision avoidance, My driving skills get worst as I get older....Some how those mature driver courses just don't change my habits.....
-
My only unknown is Lexus pulling out of Torrance also?
-
Well, thanks to our wonderful liberal friends in the State Capital with their frenzy of spend and tax, Texas has convinced Toyota Headquarters to move there. On a side note because of our high corporate tax a major Drug company has decided to give up its United States heritage and move to England where taxes are less. Our politicians are a sick bunch that have no concept of how to create jobs or make companies want to stay. Pretty soon we will be a Welfare State.

2008 Ls460L, Bad Lower Control Arm Bushings
lenore replied to LS460LGA's topic in 07 - 16 Lexus LS460 / LS460L / LS600h
Love your sayings DC...nice so how much would all of those bushings cost without labor? -
Thank you for your response, yes Mine list the same IPM transistor. But under MYLexus site the maintenance entry shows FWD....probably a paperwork mistake.
-
question, does anybody know if the IPM is different on the AWD versus the FWD.? My paper work says replaced ipm transistor for FWD. My car is an AWD with two motors.....
