  1. You know, my diagnosis was by Lexus, they said nothing about the speed sensors, in my case before I took it to Lexus I had dropped the pan, and it was a mess, lots of metal, from what I understand the planetary gears go out also and their is no return from that other than a tranny rebuild....
  2. Looks great, all of the original functions still show on the screen?? And how much to do this???
  3. by the way you could swap the two sensors and see what it does for you. On another Lexus site a guy did that And it fixed his problems.
  4. here is checkout: Speed sensor malfunction. * ECM malfunction. Diagnosis & Repair Procedure 1) Access ECM, located behind glove compartment. Disconnect appropriate ECM connector. Using a DVOM, check resistance between ECM connector terminals NC+ and NC-. See Figs. 9 and 10. Resistance should be 560-680 ohms. If resistance is as specified, replace ECM. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step. 2) Remove counter gear speed sensor from transaxle. See Fig. 1. Check resistance between speed sensor terminals. Resistance should be 560-680 ohms. Connect a DVOM to speed sensor terminals. 3) Measure voltage when a magnet is put close to tip of speed sensor, then taken away quickly. See Fig. 8. Voltage generated should be intermittent and extremely low. If resistance and voltage are not as specified, replace speed sensor. If resistance and voltage are as specified, check and repair wiring harness or connector between speed sensor and ECM. Fig. 8: Testing No. 2 Speed Sensor Courtesy of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc Note the resistance checkout and voltage is the same on both sensors

  7. Go to your local Autozone store and get a free code read, post them here. Also look under the forums for the same problem. there are a lot of entrys but generally it is Air/fuel ratio sensors on the exhaust manifolds. (look kind of like oxygen sensors)
  8. I am using the Castrol Oil synertec 0-30 (european formula) Works great.

  10. Go to your local Autozone store and get them to read the codes for you, Once we have the codes we can possibly help you figure it out.
  11. Rather than repeat my thousands of words on this subject go to the RX300 Forum and type transmission. You will find a lot from RX NC and Lenore (Me) Lexus of America could give a damn about your satisfaction or dissatisfaction on this problem. I Wrote 5 pages of explanation why they should recall and support their product and all they would say is too bad, its past warranty, and basically suck it up. I personally am disgusted with Lexus, and will never buy again, I have played phone tag and been thoroughly messed up by the dealership ( Roseville Lexus) the worst dealership on the face of earth. I am on my third tranny and the damage done by the dealership installing them was beyond belief. Good Luck Lenore, if you think Roseville Lexus is the worst dealership on the face of the earth, I know you have never experienced Lexus of Wilmington (DE). Saturday Night Live could do a really funny parody of L of W. Bold faced liars and not one qualified mechanic in their whole shop. You know its hard to find a good dealership of any kind, I can only count on one hand the number that I trust in my lifetime.
  12. I believe there are three servos.

  15. So is it fixed?
  16. The Michelin Cross terrains are great, I have 58k mile on mine and still probably have another 20k miles left. they are definetly quieter than the Michelin x. And the Duelers were terribly noisy. The Ride is excellent on the Cross terrains. Got mine at Costco.
  17. use a flat screwdriver and put some cardboard or small piece of plastic under the screwdriver to protect the dash
  18. Yes they do make evac systems for changing the fluid.
  19. I have a RX300 and there is a little plastic cap covering the nut. Very hard to deteck look closely.
  20. Usually the alternator cable goes to the isolater, and then the outputs of the isolator go to the two different batteries. One battery for the starter and car and the other for your accesories ie stereo or aux components. the isolator prevents the aux or second battery components from draining the first battery so you can always start the car. I have had both types on motorhomes. the solenoid type and the solid state type. Both work fine, last a long time and wont rot your teeth.
  21. Your auto light sensor may be bad, there is no easy way to check it without the scan tools Lexus uses. Sorry, It is probably that sensor on the dash or the Body ECU has a problem.
  22. Put a dab of silicone on the nut to hold it in place.
  23. With that mileage I would not do a flush, I would do three drain and fills in a three week period. You would need about 15qts to do three changes. Takes about 4.3 qts per change. By the way there is a second drain plug back on the transfer case, drain that one first then the pan. Adding fluid through the dipstick fills both areas. The metal smell makes me very suspicious that is why I would not do a flush, You will loose your tranny if you do shortly there after. On a low mileage Rx yes, but not with those miles.
  24. Awlsome looking replacement. Hope it treats you well...
  25. First is it an AWD or FWD, If AWD then check the fluid and see if it is bright red and doesnt have a burnt smell. If it is black or brown and smells burnt, then get the fluid changed or do it yourself. Make sure you use only Toyota Type IV fluid. here is a site for do it yourself. http://home.comcast.net/~rx300how2/index.html
