  1. No normally it is quite readable in the sun, sounds bad to me.
  2. There is an adjustment for the brightness, maybe it was turned down....
  3. Welcome, sorry you joined as I did with a tranny story. Please file a complaint with the NHTSB online you will need a vin #. It adds to the database and maybe ( I doubt it) Lexus might get off their High Horse and do a recall and treat their customers right. I will add you to the over 70 failed trannies that I have documented. Love a good Saturday night story. Good luck and remember to do the tranny fluid changes every 15k miles (recommended by dealerships because they live in the real world) not the ivory tower of Lexus corporate.
  4. welcome back Josh, I love trips like that, I have done that several times and it is a hoot.
  5. Great job guys, by the way I suggest a little heat shrink on your terminals to keep moisture out of the crimps, I also suggest soldering the connections to the faston connectors and then heat shrink. You dont want any corrosion to develop. I am looking at this setup for my Ford F150 to try and improve mileage and increase air conditioning performance in the summer. On some other sites I am on the through the radiator mounts of fans has developed problems over time. If you are using the original shroud I would have made brackets to mount to that shroud. This would eliminate any contact through the fins. As for controllers there are many the SPAL controllers have proven to be very reliable. Another fan that is widely used on cars is the Lincoln Contental Mark VIII fan which you can get on ebay or junk yards, very high flow, very solid, probably too big for the Lexus. Great job and enjoy your fans. By the way some even put led lamps to tell you when the fan is on. The other benefit is that the lack of a fan on the waterpump increases the life span of the water pump.
  6. I suspect it is located on the front left side, on top of the transmission. But I dont have an ES and I am not sure how similar it is to my RX300 engine.
  7. if the wipers fail to operate when actifvated, check the fuse in the drivers side interior fuse panel, if ok, connect a jumper wire between the wipers motor ground terminial and ground, then retest. If the motor works now repair the ground connection. The wiper control relays could be bad if it still doesnt work. But check and make sure you have a good solid 12v at the wiper motor.
  8. Wow installation takes a whole 10 minutes...That was probably $200
  9. Definetly get the dealership to fix that code, could be no more than a bad gas cap, but could also be a dirty MAF sensor.
  10. I have been told they even sell those parts at Toyota, the phone number is on that site I sent you. apparantly their contacts are heavier than the standard toyota part. The other way is go and get the solenoid assembly which would replace the contacts and the solenoid that throws the gear into the flywheel.
  11. here is another source: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php
  12. Does the starter try but not kick in? If so you might try this: http://www.nationsautoelectric.com/instructions.html
  13. jason@droorassociates.com and to nc211 i say thank you, you've given me a new perspective to look this situation from. i was just getting frustrated and its a '98 by the way They are on the way, by the way print them out, they will be legible then.
  14. Post your email address and I can send you pages out of the Lexus RX300 manual which tell you how to troubleshoot the p1349 code. It is three pages long but very complete. I believe it is very applicable to all Lexus with WTi valve timing.
  15. Yes he did, I just assumed he got it wrong
  16. He already bought a new alternator. What a bummer.
  17. Or you dent your wifes lexus rear tailgate like I did, boy was she *BLEEP*ed, She hasnt put a single ding on the entire car in 8 years.
  18. by the way it is very expensive. The knock sensors are like $200 apiece x 2. The labor is the killer.
  19. From posts that I have read it will fix the problem, when they do it have them replace the coolent hose under the intake manifold while they are in there. The intake manifold has to be removed to get to the knock sensors.
  20. 13.73volts is not a bad alternator. And I hope your alternator is good, I have had very bad luck with the alternators from Kragen also. My son's Ford ranger went through 3, and they were the problem... However, I hope the alternator is the fix for your car. I suppose a leaking bridge rectifer could cause the discharging battery. Keep us posted. By the way I have found that Napa parts have been reliable and generally cheaper than Kragens in most cases. Online ordering has been very kind to my wallet, but you have to have time and some planing.
  21. I have noticed no change in shifts etc. The filter is so big I doubt if there is any line pressure loss. And I believe the filters all have a bypass, but I dont know. I mounted mine on the left frame below the battery area. It is very large and the filter is accessable after dropping the plastic skid pan.
  22. Can also be a sticking or bad IAC valve and sensor.
  23. P0171 is fuel injection system fuel trim too lean bank 1 p0174 is fuel injection system fuel trim too lean bank 2 I suspect your ecm is reading the pre cat Oxygen sensor incorrectly and compensating . I would look at the pre cat oxygen sensor and see if it has a broken wire. Maybe somebody else can dial this in. the only other thought is the IAC is stuck partially open and causing maximum air. I know I have seen those codes and it relates to the Oxygen sensors. Yup I looked elsewhere and it is probably a bad IAC valve sticking.
  24. here is an interesting site: http://southflorida.kijiji.com/c-Cars-vehi...QQAdIdZ26054927
  25. Yes West, your right about the filter screen, the aftermarket filters are true filtering medium. I add an external filter to my system that is basically an old PH8 filter in size. Made by puralator. Adds almost a quart to the entire system as It hangs vertically in my car. But at least the fluid truely gets some filtering. Seems the Japanese dont believe in filters ie Honda, toyota, etc. I would do another drain and fill when you do your next regular oil change, you will find the fluid getting cleaner then.
