  1. If the level is too high when it is hot, you can always just remove the drain plug and remove just a little, then screw it back in.
  2. You can check the resistance to the heater coils, If open, well they are bad.
  3. Both parties are sick and disgusting to the core, I too a registered Republican, How sad I cant tell any difference between them. We need to empty the House and start with all new people on both sides of the isle.
  4. Highway to the sun in Glacier National Park, Montana. Really exciting and pretty.
  5. You may have a bad coolant sensor, but sounds like the sensor for the VVTI valve timing is bad. READ THIS: http://www.corolland.com/forums/lofiversio...php/t19941.html If the dealer will do a FREEZE frame on the codes when they happen they can tell you exactly what is happening. Just reading the codes will not tell you.
  6. Welcome tom, pretty much the timing belt is the big thing, everything else is oil change, brake fluid change, etc. That being said the timing belt change can cost $1200 at the Stealership, but at the toyota dealerships can cost around $450 for the same service. While in there the water pump should be checked, since it is driven by the timing belt, also the timing belt idlers. I personally had the water pump changed just because the labor savings if it were to fail. Cost me $500 at the Toyota dealership. Next time I will do it all myself. Total cost would be about $150 for all parts. Dont bother getting the valves adjusted, that is a waste of money. mine has 147 K miles and the engine is as quiet and smooth as new.
  7. Good job, I remember vividly how I was treated like white trash at the Mercedes dealership, so I went to Lexus of Sacramento and walked in, prepared, with the correct numbers for all options. I put them on the table, and happened to be dealing with the General manager that night. He looked at my numbers and compared to the vehicle we were interested in, Said Ok and the deal was done. The $43,000 sticker price became $36000 out the door with tax, license, etc. included. Made me happy, and my wife happy. The next day my wife received red roses from the GM sent from his business meeting in San Diego. I still own that 1999 Lexus RX300.
  8. The transmission is the only problem that I have had that I consider not normal, considering the mileage and the care I gave it. Brakes, etc, that is normal. The RX300 is a wonderful vehicle, nice for long trips, And I like it very much. I am just disgusted with Lexus of Roseville California and Lexus of AMerica for treating me like garbage. If the tranny hadnt failed and Lexus would have given me some relief, I would still be very loyal. I appreciate how well otherwise that the car has held together.
  9. west, he has the FWD, I believe he doesnt have the other drain plug, or am I wrong?
  10. Some of us get the work done at a toyota dealership (timing belt) for half the price. As for the oil pan I would assume they can do that too. An independent garage should be able to do the job as well. But I would only go to a trusted one or one that does Toyotas.
  11. The AWD takes about 4.3 qts. to drain and refill. The filter is a wire mesh screen that can be cleaned. Some aftermarket filters use the paper filter medium instead. Expect some fine dirty debris from the clutch bands. This is normal, You just dont want to see big chunks of metal filings. The magnets will have some magnetic debris on them, dont be alarmed this is OK. After the first drain and fill, you will have only replaced about 1/2 of the fluid capacity. Next oil change do a drain and fill without removing the pan. The fluid will get progressively cleaner. good Luck, Oh by the way I have always replaced the pan gasket, but you could try to re-use it. Torque is only about 8 to 10 ft/lbs on those bolts. It is a rubberized cork gasket.
  12. I would suggest dropping the pan the first time. Check how much debris is in the bottom on the three magnets. Yes there is a filter, it is usually a mesh, that can be cleaned. If you buy an aftermarket one it will have the real filtering medium. Is your car All WHeel DRive?
  13. First, what year is it, and is it AWD? If it is AWD then I suggest changing the tranny fluid every 15k miles with Toyota Type IV fluid only. If when you pull the dipstick the fluid is not bright red and smells burnt, you are very much so ready for a fluid change. Here is a site that will help you with many of the maintenance requirements: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/rx300how2/index.html
  14. Probably a Honda, Accura
  15. here is a site that will help you with the plugs: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/rx300how2/index.html
  16. The po300 codes indicate missfires, You may have bad plugs or Coil packs. there are three sensors, one on each side of the engine near the exhaust manifold. You can see the front one near the radiator fans. the back one from under the car and the third one just before the final catalytic converter. They are not cheap. I would go after the missfires first. this could be causing your other codes. looks like cylinder 1,3,5 have a problem. those are the back three cylinders. You could try and check the rear sensor, the two black wires are the heater, make sure they do not measure and open with an ohm meter. If they do, both the front and rear sensors will not have a heater they are wired in series.
  17. Bank 1 and Bank 2 sensors are wired in series for the heater on the oxygen sensors, however you could have just one code. Check continuity on both band sensors on the black wires and make sure there is resistance. If one is open both will not heat up. Just one little tip.
  18. here is another link with some pictures which may be similar: http://www.nationsautoelectric.com/instructions.html
  19. Nice, enjoy your new ride.
  20. You got a great deal on the tranny, good luck and remember to have it serviced every 15k miles from this point on.
  21. I went to Park Place Lexus in Plano Texas and ordered bearings and brushes for my RX300 Alterntor. Was less than $45 for all the parts including shipping. I was able to successfully rebuild it, of course I have done this before . My car had around 120k on it, one of the bearings was a little dry and would make a light noise while spinning it in your hand. I just did this as a preventative measure, not for any problem.
  22. Yea I remember one of my mini vans have the Mitishibishi motor. Definetely a good motor over the chrysler one.
  23. I dont know on the picture, as it wasnt done by me. However my display is quite readable in bright sunlight.
  24. Go here lots of good maintenance tips as well as the D light: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/rx300how2/index.html
  25. I would check that engine coolant sensor on the right side of the car near the timing belt and water outlet casting. Maybe the wire is broken or the sensor is bad. Then troubleshoot the other code. Maybe a Dirty Maf sensor or possibly a bad Oxygen sensor. p0117 engine coolant temperature sensor circuit low input voltage. P0125 insufficient coolant temperature for closed loop fuel control.
