  1. Hi Don and welcome to the Club. Every once and awhile someone will post a question like yours regarding some bizzare software melt down with the Apple interface. Your guess about the 5 generation difference is just as good as any other. However, in the past, Lexus Customer Service - Tech Support has done a good job of trouble shooting over the phone or live chat. I'm pasting the contact info you'll need to contact Lexus. Please come back and let us know what caused the problem. Paul http://www.lexus.com/contact/ You may also go to the bottom of this page and click on "Contact Us" and you'll go to another contact option.
  2. Hi Lavga and welcome to the Lexus Owners Club. I don't have an answer right away, but the fastest way to get the information you want would be to log on to "Tire Rack" and search their site for tire statistics and make and model fits. Let us know if that answers your questions. Paul
  3. The wear bars are helpful and take some of the guess work out of judging the amount of wear. In this case, they take something so simple and make it so comeplex and subject to failure.
  4. Once again, Lexus is chosen as the number one car on the market. Consumer Reports continues to praise Lexus for it's reliability, build and overall driving experiance. This recognition only adds to the other Lexus reviews in the past that also placed Lexus as number one. Obviously, we have excellent good taste! http://www.autoblog.com/2014/02/25/consumer-reports-brand-report-cards-lexus-tops/
  5. Hi Roger and welcome to the Club. The first thing to do is take your ES to your dealer. There could be several things causing your trouble. But the car has at least another year of warranty coverage. This means the repair for the camera is at no charge. Come back and let us know what was wrong with the camera system. I'm very curious. Paul
  6. Say what?? For years all of us have just used good old Abraham Lincoln to check the tread depth of our tires. As far as I know, no one ever sued a tire company saying the penny test was to complicated and their tires wore out. My prediction?.........this will instantly become a product desperately looking for a sucker. What do you think? 7. I've never run across anyone else who has seen the unique color that Lexus offered in 2010 for the ES350. The color was called Peridot which is a semi-precious gem. It was a shade of dark metalic green that looked like a cross between pea soup and baby !Removed!. lol It was one of the most unusual car colors I had ever seen. During that model year I only saw one ES350 driving around the city. I was at the dealer one day when they had one of these cars on display. I was standing there, staring at the car trying to figure out wether I was repulsed or amused. A young man walked by and I asked him what he thought about the color. He looked at me like I had a third eye. It was obvious what he thought. 0ne of my favorite Lexus colors has been Black Saphire on my 2010.
  8. I'm with you on the silver. It seems like over the last ten years or so, all you saw in new car color choices was silver. In fact I wondered if it didn't out sell white as the favorite color for a couple of model years. The article was a little like telling your fortune by the color of your eye's, but fun. You'd hate my car, the ES350, Lex because it's black as night. Actually, it is the only black car I've ever had. I had it at the detail shop this week for a deep hand wash. After the wash they apply a product called "Show Room Shine" The paint looks fantastic. But as you know, the color is so hard to keep clean. Luckily I'am two blocks from a touchless car wash and between the hand washes,I rinse it off at the car wash. Paul
  9. Rolls Royce is mulling coming out with an SUV in 2017. Price could be some what over $300k. It would be great to take to the grocery store for a 6-pack ! lol Paul http://www.autoblog.com/2014/05/14/rolls-royce-suv-2017/?icid=maing-grid7%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl25%7Csec3_lnk4%26pLid%3D477172
  10. I'm surprised to hear that the 6x9" are 8 ohms. For as far back as 2005 on a previous ES330 I owned, all speakers were 4 ohms. I learned something new today! Shawn, your on the money when you talk about the speakers in the Mark Levinson system. My experiance with the ML has never convinced me that it is worth the 2k plus. And the number one complaint I see posting on the Club is not enough bass. In my experiance here on the forum as well is the biggest source of system failure is the amplifier meeting a premature death. However, the design of the audio experiance intended for the ML and it's environment is not for hub-cap rattling Hip Hop, or the canon booms in the 1812 oveture. The ML use's an elaborate crossover network connected to all output componants. I'm anxious to hear what you find out theazz. Keep us posted. Paul
  11. All of us have a favorite color when it comes to shoping for a new ride. Over several years white has come in as the top choice. During the last ten years or so silver/grey has been a hot one. But when it comes to making that color choice, does your choice say something about your personality? Check this article out. It claims a persons choice of color for their car says a lot about what kind of a person they are. Don't take this too seriously. However, many manufacturers spend big bucks selecting just the right colors that will be attractive to their customers' . Do you have a favorite color for your Lexus? My bet is that the majority of our members will say that silver/grey is their color of choice. So what is your color of choice? Is this article to be believed? Paul http://www.ivillage.com/what-does-your-car-color-say-about-you/7-b-458744?utm_source=zergnet.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=zergnet_176160
  12. Hi Robin and welcome to the Lexus Owners Club. At first when I read your problem, I quickly thought it's only a bad fuse. But when you mentioned your friend beating the poor thing death, and it came back to life, you really have me puzzeled. Frankly I don't trust fuses. You can pull one out and look at it and every thing looks fine. But more than once a good fuse by sight can really have a fatal short. I would guess that the fan motor may have siezed, meaniing the electric motor in the fan is bad and will only run when it is vibrated enough to free up the armature or bearings in the fan. You'll probably have to replace the fan. Sorry. Paul
  13. Hi theazz. Based on what you've described there are about three things I would suggest looking at. ) Your amplifier could have a problem with one of it's output channels. Part of that could be a crossover failing and blocking the low frequencies. ) Another possibility could be a bad speaker in the drivers door. It could have damaged coil, cone or tear from age. ) The last item is to check your head unit. If you know how, you may be able to get to it and check if it's putting out the right signals' compared to factory specs. Considering these three possibilities, my money would be on the amplifier. But there are probably a dozen other things it could be. Some times we forget how old some of these stereo's are. There bound to need some TLC. Paul To all members: Please remember to put BOTH the year and model of your Lexus when Posting in any Forum.
  14. New site Slogan: "LOC, Where the Brains Are"! LOL
  15. Hi ceb and welcome to the LOC. I think the solution is pretty obvious. When switched, it energizes the left side "Farcle Tube". which in turn starts the sound system playing soft, romantic music. The front two seats' are reclined to an almost flush position and just by chance a beautiful lady is by your side while you try to explain how to operate the voice commends for the Navigation system. Actualy. I wonder if the switch could have been for a "behind the grill" radar detector. The owner may have wanted to shut off the power when shuting off the car or given an alert than a certain radar band has been detected.
  16. Hi Aarash and welcome to the Club. I'm not really qualified in this area but I think you probably have answered your own question. Many members will say that your battery cables clamps can never be to clean. They insist that a stiff wire cable cleaning tool be used to get the clamps absolutely shiney. Have you checked the ground? If the battery is being drained while driving and the alternater is not putting anything back in you know what to look for. Somebody else may jump in here with some technical knowledge. Come back and let us know what you find out. Paul
  17. I think Becki you bring up one reason the pick-up may be so popular and that is the "Safe" felling. I have heard many women remark that a big reason they like their SUVs' and Cross Overs is the feeling of being safe and sitting up high which gives them a better view.
  18. Hi GA, Your situation is one that I've only heard about a couple of times in the past. The biggest problem to answer is do you have to take off the bumper to take out the old and put in the new. Did either of the places's tell you if they would need to take off the bumper? Two hunred dollars is a pretty big spread for the repair. Members of the Club are able to purchase Lexus parts from a Lexus outlet in Dallas, TX. The name of the seller is Sewell Lexus. When you register be sure to tell them you are a member of the Lexus Owners Club. Sewell gives an excellent discount to our Club members. They should be able to sell you the parts and answer some question as well. Come back and let us know what you found out. Paul
  19. Hi Gary and welcome to the Lexus Owners Club. The best way to gauge the market value of the RX 300 is to go to Kelly's Blue Book or, KBB and use their value formulas' to find out what other RX 300's of that year and mileage are worth. From that number you can calculate what you think is a fair price. I also suggest you get a CarFax report to verify the car has not been involed in a prior accident or other bad deal. Come back and let us know how things turn out. Paul
  20. Hi St. This is always a popular topic. In addition to your posting, I would suggest doing a search of the data base. You'll find quite a number of opinions. Those in the Club who drive ESs' have a leaning towards the Michlen Primacy. It is very quiet, smooth as glass, excellent wear, and a reasonable price. A look at Tire Rack can give you some good info. plus more research on other brands. Paul
  21. This is not the first time since the new year, and going back to all of 2013. The Ford-150 has been a consistant sales leader over any other flavor of auto. Thats' sedan, SUV, crossover, 4-wheel, van, sports car, and on. Forgive my ignorance but I don't get it ! I want a smooth, quiet, ride. Now, I know that a Ford-150 can be equiped to compete with your Den and Lazy Boy, but I'm still not convinced it's ever going to be a threat to my ES. Even when the 150 sells for more than my ES, sorry, I want my baby back. Obviously, I guess I'm missing something, Let me have it..........! LOL Paul
  22. April was a monster for new car sales. People went out and bought new cars in record numbers. Here are the top 15 autos selling in April. Paul http://autos.aol.com/gallery/best-selling-cars/?icid=maing-grid7%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl9%7Csec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D473211#!slide=2599026
  23. Hey Denny, I was surprised, but when I put a new set of snow's on my previous ES350 2010, they seemed to actually feel more smooth than the all seasons I had just taken off. Like you, when winter started to blend into spring, I noticed how much better they grabed on when I had to jump on the brake pedal. Rain, black ice, you name it, I really enjoy the product. They are Bridgestone _ I can't remember how to spell the last name - LOL. I do take the snows off in about the end of March. After all of my praise you would assume I would use the tires year round. But frankly, my experiance is that your mpg suffers when you use your snows year round. In hot weather the all season tires are more maleable, they are quieter, and handle better as the pavement heats up througout the day. If you live in a snow state region, try a set of snow tires next year. Like Denny and I, you'll not only stay out of the ditch, you'll enjoy being comfortable and safe at the same. Paul
  24. Hi every one, We are excited to introduce two new Moderators to your staff. Beckl, l3l525oc, will concentrate her efforts mostly in welcoming new members unanswered postings, and the ever ongoing war with SPAM and flat out criminal behavior. Becki is a very outgoing and upbeat person. He will be a excellent Moderator. Randall, "Landar" a EEE major, is a long time member of the LOC, and has an excellent knowledge of the older model Lexus, wich is an area we have been under staffed in for quit some time.. We created a new Moderator position for Randall's position which is called "Tech Guru". These two member service positions are a direct result of the feedback you gave us from the LOC member survey.you filled out last year. We are continuing to score the survey results for areas you said were priorities;.There is no such thing as your LOC not needing to be tweaked as we go along. Thank you for taking the time to read along here. One last thing I want to is remind members and new members. This club is a private organization. The LOC is not connected to Lexus, Toyota, or and other entity connected to those organizations. The Lexus Owners Club is staffed, operated, and maintained by volunters only.. The LOC has/uses no paid positions. Please take a moment to say Hi to Becki and Randall, and have a great Spring every one. Paul
  25. I don't know about you, but until recently, I would have said that no one, regardles of the price or make, would buy a car without a test drive. Well, last week a good friend of mine said he and his wife had been looking for a Toyota High Lander. They had found one they liked and were going to closed the deal in a few days. I asked him how it handeled on the highway........well, we haven't really driven it yet. he said. This article is written for these customers. Pass it on to those teens looking for their first car. Paul http://autos.aol.com/article/one-in-six-car-shoppers-skip-the-test-drive-when-buying-a-car/?icid=maing-grid7%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl16%7Csec3_lnk4%26pLid%3D472270
