  1. I just keep my speed at 50mph regardless of location. That way I figure I'm within a safe range at least 50% of the time. lol Back in the 80's, I used an Escort detector for I was traveling around the state and did not need a ticket that might effect my driving status. At that time you folks probably remember that the darn thing would go off every time you drove past a grocery store with automatic doors. It would also go off as you went past certain garage doors with RF remote activate door opener. If only life was so simple. Am I correct in saying some states make the use of a radar detector illegal? Paul
  2. Lexus wins the comparison, but not by much. Have you driven either one? http://lexusenthusiast.com/2014/11/30/auto-express-comparison-lexus-300h-vs-mercedes-c300-bluetec-hybrid/
  3. Your suggestions about placement of this topic is a good idea. For a trial run, I'm going to post these threads in the General Chat forum. I'll leave a topic header here, and members will be able to join from either forum. This conversation reminds me (in a good way) about a conversation a few years ago. The topic was, what makes a car a luxury car? as well as the natural off-shoots which were, When does a consumer car market become a luxury market?...an etc. Paul
  4. Based upon your points regarding European makers cars to seem to be ubiquitous, keep in mind that for the period ending 12/31/13, Lexus was the number one seller for then 3 years in a row. Not so this year. Markets are fluid, and with each new roll out from the manufacturer comes predictable shifts. Shifts like we've been talking about, but also the need and or desire of the country to move away from current, limited fossil fuel technology to new technologies. I see this as having more pressure on market forces than the few seconds less in going from 0 - 60mph. It may come to pass, and has already been felt, that customers will still demand true luxury, but also a carry over of Lexus, first in the nation reliability in thier technology changes. I wish we could get our new members involved with chats like this one. Any ideas? Paul
  5. Hi Darius and welcome to the LOC. I'm sure you've already checked this out, but if the low tire monitor is not reset properly it may cause your problrm. The 2007 ES350 requires sever steps to completely reset the monitor. Go to our search site and Google Lexus ES350, 2007 low tire. You should find several threads and postings on this topic. Paul
  6. Here is the latest info regarding the likelihood of Lexus introducing the brand new redesigned RX family in January. Check it out! Paul http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=c8d07861212a6ff83112f89f7&id=0108515cb7&e=03d7af6b56
  7. Having spent my career in marketing multimillion dollar equipment, this age old dance of pricing for volume, versus large markups for a high end, custom fit product is always a "crap shoot"resulting in lower market share, but better profit opportunities. It's doubtful that a company such as Rolex worries about being the worlds largest watch company, but doing so with low ball pricing would degrade the aura that comes with the name Rolex. Lexus move to put a floor on it's products MSRP will help maintain their luxury status. When Mercedes began offering a product for around $29,000 my perception of the Mercedes halo dropped substantially. If I have a choice to buy a MB for $80,000 or one for $29,000, my reaction is that the company is desperate and as a possible buyer, why are MB's rated by over a million people surveyed,as being one of the worst badges for reliability. Market success demands consistent perception of value. The decision Lexus made this year in bringing out a product they knew would be polarizing, will help them present a true alternate of choice in a line-up of contemporary, reliable, and option rich true luxury cars. Paul
  8. Dear friends. With 156,000 fellow members comes a wide array of customs, traditions and special ways of saying what your thankful for. Your fellow Lexus owners come from all over the world. Dubai, Yugoslavia, Russia, Austrailia, Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, and more such as Brazil. This "melting pot" of members results in a shared, common bond of the love of automobiles. My list of things to be thankful for this year includes the hope that all of us can become a voice for everyone to find common grounds in each other and not to work so hard at trying to find the worst in all. Best wishes for a great Thanksgiving !!! Paul
  9. This link is a fantastic look at the new "Crafted Line" option on the new GS. If you like a high performance look and a cabin that shouts "Power" this treatment is fantastic. However your taste may think its over the top. As the photo array shows, this option will be available on most Lexus models. Tell us what you think!! Paul http://lexusenthusiast.com/2014/11/25/photo-gallery-lexus-gs-f-sport-crafted-line-edition/
  10. In an interview with the "Detroit Free Press", Lexus General Manager gives a complete overview of things to come in 2015 and announced that Lexus is not going to bow to any German car manufacturers price war marketing. The market price for any Lexus model in the future will not fall below $30,000. This is a must read for any true Lexus enthusiast. What do you think about the plans for Lexus future? Are you planning to buy or trade for a Lexus model in 2015? If so, will the bottom price limit for Lexus models make you look more seriously at a Mercedes or BMW. Paul http://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/2014/11/24/lexus-performance-vehicle-detroit-auto-show/70052332/ This is a must read for any true Lexus enthusiast. http://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/2014/11/24/lexus-performance-vehicle-detroit-auto-show/70052332/
  11. Hi Stephen, I feel your pain. :) I have leased cars several times and at the end of each lease, I would go through the same emotional Roller Coaster you are. Should I buy out the lease or turn it in for another car. When it comes to making a decision the focus is almost always two fold. Is it a smart financial move, or is moving to another car more important. I have a 2013 ES350 and a 2013 RX350 and both have the same cruise control operation. Like you, I don't like it. But I love the cars and appreciate their reliability. Consumer Reports just published a study on automobile reliability. Lexus was number 1 again. Mercedes and BMW were way down towards the bottom. (see topic in the General Chat forum.) Given their reliability, quiet ride, and selection of models, I would suggest another Lexus might be your best choice. However, a different model might fit your needs better. Paul
  12. I wasn't that surprised by MB or BMW. The dealer for those brands sits right across the street from my Lexus dealer. It's amazing how many people come in to the Lexus dealer talking about how unreliable their cars are, and how bad the service is. Paul
  13. Very interesting stuff. I can't wait to see a full layout of the new design. Go to the link below for the full text and photo. http://lexusenthusiast.com/2014/11/11/next-generation-lexus-ls-emotional-design/
  14. The next LS will be designed to Polarize the market place. Lexus has said that their goal is not to chase after market share, but to design a saloon for the true Lexus owner. It will be the most expensive Lexus as always. exusenthusiast.com/2014/11/11/next-generation-lexus-ls-emotional-design/
  15. In this months "Consumer Reports", is this years results of their annual "Road Report". Their survey included 1,078,364 automobiles of 28 manufacturers and their makes and models. Once AGAIN, Lexus placed No. 1 in overall reliability. This covers 10 Lexus models. Of the remainder, I was shocked at the results of Toyota's major luxury competitors. .... Mercedes was 5th from the bottom ! BMW, out of 28, was barely in the middle. Some of our members have real heart burn about "Consumer Reports". They have their reasons. However in a sample size this big its pretty obvious you could easily allow for incorrect data. Its good to know your decison to be part of the Lexus family was a good one. Paul
  16. Hi Ernest and welcome to the LOC. Depending on the model and year the things that need to be reset vary. In general, some of the items that can be programed or customized will need to be reset. In some years-models, the seat presets would need to be reset and the Oil life monitor. I wish I could say with confidence that Gene's answer was complete, but I can't find the info. in my owners manual. I will try to find a decent answer shortly and get to you. Paul
  17. Check it out Sun worshipers. https://webmail1.mail.aol.com/38815-816/aol-6/en-us/Suite.aspx
  18. Hey J, It looks like you have a difficult decision! Which beautiful, near new looking great car do I pick? lol Just a thought, an important thing that we sometimes don't take into account is what support is available when I get this baby home? It usually happens that at sometime during your ownership a problem may arise that a local dealer may need to be consulted. Or, a dealer available to take care of a possible recall or TSB.My suggestion is to ask around for recommendations on a friendly and knowledgeable Lexus dealer. If you don't know already, we have an arrangement with Sewell Lexus in Dallas for a great discount on parts for LOC members. Go to "Sewellparts.com". When you register look for the section where you can check that you are a member of the Lexus Owners Club, or LOC. Paul
  19. Over the last two years, Toyota-Lexus has signaled movement towards a product with a more aggressive mission to overwhelm the luxury market with cars that offer young styling, state-of the-art technology and reliability that has made Lexus the No. 1 selling luxury car year after year. At the recent gathering of USA dealers, Mr Toyoda laid out his vision of the Lexus automobile for the next years ahead. I found his thoughts and the commitment of Toyota to our love for our Lexus not only helpful but exciting. What do you think?? Paul http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=c8d07861212a6ff83112f89f7&id=d4eb933660&e=03d7af6b56 A big apology for the previous bad link I posted. The one above works!
  20. The days of the Crown Vic. are all but gone. Now, the police in northern England can use their IS to run you down even if your on a straight away doing 150mph! Check out the new era of the cop car. Paul http://wallstcheatsheet.com/automobiles/you-can-hide-but-you-cant-run-10-of-the-fastest-police-cars.html/
  21. This awesome Kit for the 2015 RC-F is now released from a Japanese tuner. This makes one-mean- Lexus machine! Paul http://lexusenthusiast.com/2014/10/23/trd-japan-releases-lexus-rc-f-sport-aero-kit/
  22. Wild a.. guess. Is there a fuse or more than one fuse for the security system or FOB receiver? I know that sounds pretty far fetched but the battery idea seems to be D.O.A. Paul
  23. I don't know of any other reliable site beside Lexus Support. I would first try Lexus.com. Click on "Contact" and choose "Support". From there you can talk to a live body, "Chat", find additional forums, etc. I've had good luck using this "Official" site. It may be to early for anyone to know which VIN numbers will be included. Also, from what I gathered on the news last night, the recall may not include late models such as yours.
  24. Here's what Car&Driver had to say about the new IS350 Sport and the fact that it beat out a BMW !! Paul Are you thinking about buying an IS ? If so, what is it about the cars that really gets you going? Paul https://webmail1.mail.aol.com/38815-111/aol-6/en-us/suite.aspx
  25. Hi St. Thanks for the info on the RX body style. The style did change with the 2013 models, mostly consisting of the new Spindle Grill shape. Overall I think that when I'm driving down the road I can tell an RX by the traditional silloute. I guess it really makes no difference since the RX is Lexus number #1 seller, above every other model.
