  1. Hi Chuck, This isn't a condition that I've heard of recently. Based on the month you bought your GX 460 and the mileage, you may still have the car in warranty. If it is, take it to your dealer and get an estimate on repairing it. If not in warranty, you may be able to find the parts needed for the repair on ebay or other outlets.. Also, have it looked at by a reputable auto sound installer and see if they and the dealer both agree on the problem solution. At the top of the page to the right is a box to start a search for your problem. Come back and let us know how things are going. Paul
  2. Thanks Denny. Your a fountain of knowledge!!! LOL I guess it could be used to store your Big Mac when you go out for lunch. You could use it to store a spare iPhone so you'll always be just a few inches away from pulling up the latest post on your LOC! Personally, I'll use mine to hide my gold Rolex. It is a gorgeous piece of functionality and craftsmanship; and the man in the alley verified that is was absolutely 18K gold. It is one of my most loved possession, all though some people chuckle under their breath when I tell them about it. ? Paul
  3. Just discovered the "buried treasure" place in the bottom of our 2013 RX console. What do you use the third little compartment for which opens in the front of the secret compartment? Paul
  4. I agree with Dave. Save your money. The dealer may cover damage to your tire , but,in fact, it is the tire manufacturer that puts a warranty with their product. For example, The manufacturer will cover damage to the tire if it starts to bulge on the side wall. That would be covered by your manufacturer warranty.ber (synthetic) and replace th tire. Most manufacturers also provide a mileage warranty for the life of the tread. I had a 2007 Volvo with Continental Contact low profile tires. They were guaranteed to to run 60,000 miles. Instead, the tread was worn to about 25,000 miles and needed replacement. There are few occasions when a wheel would get bent or broken so bad that there wouldn't also be other damage to the car. Such as fender bent and caved in to the point the car would need substantially more than just a tire or wheel. This is where your auto insurance would kick in and repair the damage, less your deductible. My advice is the give this some more thought and some more research, Come back and let us know how things work out. Paul
  5. Dealer?.....is that the smell of money burning a hole in your pocket?
  6. Hi Ravel and welcome to the Club. It sounds like your a good Dad to give your daughter such a great car. LOL Your problem is usually pretty simple. When the rain drain tubes get plugged up they will create the problem your describing. The tubes that carry away the water start on the roof of the car and on both the driver and passenger sides. The channels on the roof that direct the flow run into the rain tubing and come out some where around the wheel well. (I don't know that detail for sure but keep it in mind). Using a hose with strong pressure and water, can usually flush the leaves and tree seeds on out of the drain tube. You may have to use something like a coat hanger wire to help empty the tubes.
  7. Hi Lucian and welcome to the LOC. No one else on the site has chimed in yet, but before another member helps you I would suggest using a Lexus technical site that has nearly any part or tutorials you'd want Toyota has a pay as you go site that covers almost everything you could want for technical information. The site is "Toyota Information Services", or TIS.com. Go to the site and register for your password & user name. Use of the data site is accessed by renting time for use of the information. I use the lowest time slot they charge and that is $15.00 for two days. For me, I can find a lot of good stuff in two days. I really suggest visiting TIF.com and check out if it fits your needs. Let us know how things turn out. Paul
  8. Just a new tid-bit. In the Des Moines metro area, E-85 is selling for $1.58. I have seen some cars around saying Flex Fuel or E-85 on the trunk lid. I used to use 89 octane with 10% ethanol and had zero issues. But when I bought our 2013 RX and ES I switched to 91 octane with no ethanol. No good reason why, I guess I just thought that I might as well feed the beast with a high protein diet, and hope it helps keeping those injectors shinny and humming along. LOL
  9. Hi Dale and welcome. I agree with you that it's not to tough to tell whether the surface is warm or not. I don't know what the specifications are for temp and duration. I imagine they said they had checked the fuses. Find someone to check them again. Also it can be a faulty wiring harness or bad switch. You say you have called several times with no results. Who are you calling? You can go to Lexus.com and look around for the area you think will fit your problem. Personally, I would suggest using tech services or the Customer Service line. This gives you the option of getting Lexus on board with your side of the issue, and they can help work with the dealer in getting the problem resolved. The funny thing about this issue is my 2013 ES350 gets TOO hot. I barely move the temperature dial and it is immediately very warm. Otherwise the cooling feature works fine. Let us know what you find out. Paul
  10. Yeah, I'm not saying that this sequence might not work, but it does sound a little like,"1 eye of Newt, I teaspoon of dried bat wing and a pinch of garlic in your shorts!" LOL Paul
  11. I too was kind of under-whelmed after looking at the photo's. In my view the RX hasn't changed a bit since 1998. Other than the trim packages, shape of the tail lights and colors it's the same machine. That being said, the RX has continued to be the number one selling car in the entire Lexus line. Don't mess with success but keep in tune with your customers. I really like the 5 seat configuration but Lexus has had it's bumps and bruises not having the 3rd seat option. I agree with you that if they do come out with the 3rd seat, it be just an option and NOT take the 5 seat off the market. In our family there is just the two of us and the RX is perfect for our needs. But, obviously we don't represent the typical RX customer. I'm excited to see the debut. Paul
  12. Sounds like a plan. I still think this is more of a mechanical issue than electronics. At least a new unit would be sure to get you back in order and as you said, some more up to date features. Paul
  13. Hi James and welcome. To begin with, I will verify that you've got a PROBLEM! What a cluster of symptoms. I want to start from the beginning and make sure we have all the facts. You say that you had an error code for several months. During that time did you pull the codes to see if there were any other codes showing than the one on the CD display? With the error message staying on, were there any operating problems? In other words, even though it showed a code, did everything keep working? Would it play CD's ? I have seen simaler problems when a CD got stuck in the playing deck. What happens are an error sign, but if the CD can't be ejected then every time the player comes on the other CD's just keep smashing around until nothing can move. One way members have solved the problem before it gets months long is to do what you did and dissconect the negative terminal from the battery and re-boot when you've restored power. (Some people swear the battery negative cable should be left off for at least 15 minutes. This assures that all the chips, power supply's, and other circuits to drain all their power before re-energizing them.. My best recommendation is to check out a respected Auto sound shop and see if that can tell if there is a stuck CD in the player. If the unit has to be replaced, for resale value I suggest you put in a original Lexus system. Please let us know how things are going. Paul
  14. Check out the redesigned RX. http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=c8d07861212a6ff83112f89f7&id=feca0a5bb7&e=03d7af6b56
  15. I just found some more. I put out the "Roach Motels".
  16. Can you say Warranty? Yes, your dealer will probably be able to take care of you. It could just be a re-boot of the software. As Denny was saying his IS has hiccuped once before and I frankly can't remember these issues being brought up only on a rare occasion. Always remember that your Lexus has a 4 year, 40,000 warranty. That covers everything from bumper to bumper. Let us know what you find out. Paul
  17. Hi Chris and welcome! Most key stuck situations on models with key ignitions is having the steering wheel stuck so that you can't turn it from left or right. As you've already said you've been down that road. Since you can remove the key when there's no current to the lock I'm guessing the problem may be with the engine immobilizer witch is part of the anti theft mechanism. Unfortunately I don't know how to do a work-around. You might check with a lock smith or a dealer. Let us know what you find out. Paul
  18. Here is the new RX 350 coming in April to NY Auto Show. The biggest chatter about the new RX is will it get a third seat or not.The RX has always been a 5 seater since it's beginning in 1998. We have a 2013 RX 350 and frankly I can't tell much difference from my crossover. http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=c8d07861212a6ff83112f89f7&id=feca0a5bb7&e=03d7af6b56
  19. Hi James, Before spending the $140, go to Sewellparts.com. Sewell Lexus is a large dealer in Dallas and have a large parts component for great prices. By joining the LOC today, you are eligible for a LOC member discount. Many of our members swear by them , and my experience has saved me hundreds of dollars. Go to "Sewellparts.com" and when you register indicate your a member of the Lexus Owners Club or "LOC". Another place to check out is e-bay. Just depends on the day but you can find some good deals. However, having said all that, before you shell out $140, make sure that the only problem is not just the bulb but the ballast as well. Paul
  20. Remember also Ella, all batteries are not created equal. A bargain basement battery probably has less cold cranking amps,an a shorter life span. You can look at several websites regarding car batteries and their quality and suitability to your Lexus. Paul
  21. Hi Alfredo and welcome to the Club. Based on your information in your posting I'm guessing this is a Pre-Owned GS. If that is the case, Stephen is correct. The trial period for Enform and Sirius/XM is included for one year with a new Lexus. There is no such option for a Pre Owned Lexus. However, as Stephen mentioned, You may be able to negotiate a new subscription from your dealer. I love the satelite radio. I don't care how long your drive you can always find a channel that suits your mood. Two other features I use all the time is Navigation and Direction Assistance. Just yesterday I was looking for a business I had been to before, But as I drove up and down the street I could not find the business. So, I pulled over and hit the Direction Assistance. I simply told the lady what I was looking for and 15 seconds later, I had the address and number. Some times I look around at the gas consumption and how it is trending like on a long trip. You can also sign-up for Stock market information and so on. If you decide to continue the service, you will have to re-activate the package through Sirius/XM. In my experience it's worth the money. For more information just go to Lexus.com, and click on customer service. There is additional information at the Lexus.com on several Lexus topics. Paul
  22. Hi Jeff and welcome to the Club. This particular problem is not unheard of but very few members are unable to find a solution. Personally, in a mild way, I'm not satisfied with the head rest adjustment just like you. Did Lexus Customer Service say they could get the other head rest package from Japan and retro fit it to your current installation. Try that idea if you haven't already. Also, as you drive around you'll find that most foreign cars have the same type headrest.
  23. Over time, (for example look at when these threads started) this topic seems to have taken on a life of it's own. If you really want to know the complete and definitive answers, I suggest you go to the mountain and meet the Lexus gods. You may already know about the Toyota based information site. "TIS" is Toyota Information Service. and contains all detail information for all Lexus, Toyota and Scion cars. You will find wiring diagrams, mechanical assemblies and exploded views of mechanical systems. You'll also find part numbers and other things like the traction control. In short, if you don't find it there you don't need it. You access the website by " renting" time and usage. For example, I use the two day (48 hours) rental for $15.00. You can cover a lot of ground in two days and others have had great experience using the rental package. With the weekend coming up it could be a good time to log in and wonder around. The LOC and myself have no connection with the TIS nor is there any kind of financial arrangements. Go to TIS.com Paul
  24. Another futile guess is the guts of the built in phone system if so equipped. At least I know that the latter additions within that decade have phone parts in trunk.
  25. Check with "dcfish" a member of the Club, or "United Radio", New York. (I'm sorry I can't find their file at the moment, but just Google it and it will pop right up.) Paul
