  1. Today, 12-23-2014, Regular (87 octane), $1.99 a gallon. Des Moines, Iowa
  2. Hi Rick and welcome to the club! To the best of my knowledge there is no need for special wheels or tires for your hi-bred. I suppose if one wanted to get really into it there might be tires that provide less rolling friction in order to squeeze out a few tenths of a mpg. Stock tires should serve you well. Paul
  3. Yes, and it is an excellent discount. I needed a new fob for my 2013 ES350. The dealer wanted $320 for it. I bought it at Swells for $161. They are friendly and knowledgeable. When you log in be sure you click on the LOC member prompt. Paul
  4. OK. I'm going to step out and show my ignorance. What is a crate motor?
  5. Was this when you were "Sweet Sixteen"? lol
  6. Coming in January, the new GS-F at the Detroit Auto Show. Check out the photos!! http://lexusenthusiast.com/2014/12/17/new-lexus-high-performance-f-model-coming-detroit-auto-show/
  7. Some of our conversations here have mentioned the move by Lexus to stop production of any car under $30,000. Toyota says they may move the Scion line into a premium brand taking care of that under $30,000 customer. http://lexusenthusiast.com/2014/12/16/toyota-transform-scion-small-premium-brand/
  8. Hi Bruce and welcome to the LOC. You may want to check with our LOC approved parts vendor for a check on prices. Sewell Lexus in Dallas has a large parts house that offers hefty discounts to our LOC member. I had to buy a new FOB for my 2013 ES350. The dealer quoted $320. I checked with Sewell and bought it for $160. When you sign on be sure and register yourself as a member of the Lexus Owners Club. Sewellparts.com Paul
  9. Hi and welcome to the Club. When it comes to a Lexus that is 15 years old, the price is really not hard and fast. If you haven't already, the first thing to do would be to check it's value using Kell'ys Blue Book, or Edmund's. Both can give you an approximate value for the LS. With the mileage as high as it is, plus the age, I would be concerned about a ride that would nickle and dime you to death. Paul
  10. Hi Markb and welcome to the LOC. I haven't heard of that particular problem. My guess is that it isn't in the head unit but a function of on-board software from SirusXM. The cheapest way to start out trouble shooting is to call SirusXM and explain your problem. It may just be a little thing like re-initializing the receiver, much like they do when you first sign on to their service. If it's not a XM issue try going to a local, reputable car audio shop. Since you RX is out of warranty taking it first to your Lexus dealer would really not help you much since all they can do is swap out the old unit for a new one. Expensive! Let us know how things turn out. Paul
  11. My two cents. I think a luxury car is whatever you think it is. Makers and sellers help to create the "aura" of wealth and prestige and I confess I fall prey to that. As in almost anything in life, perception is everything. What you and I perceive to be a luxury car the next person see's as only mediocre. That, in my opinion is why so many badges exist year after year. I've made up my mind that Lexus is not only a good value, but one that satisfy's all those "I want to be pampered" feelings. Paul
  12. Head to head, nose to nose, the Lexus RC350-F won the thumbs up over the BMW 435i. Paul http://www.caradvice.com.au/324491/lexus-rc350-f-sport-v-bmw-435i-coupe-comparison-review/
  13. Here is Motor Trends results of the RC-F & the BMW M4. I know I'm going to get flack over this, but I still think these race course/ road test are interesting but is almost without relevance to the mass customer base that buys a Lexus. Now I know and appreciate the excellent engineering that goes into these beautiful machines, but driving 90 mph on a two lane mountain road is something I rarely do. I think much of these comparisons are swayed one way or another based on which manufacturer is stroking the ego of the writer. Okay, that probably isn't fair but when I'm up to my elbows in snow I'd rather know how well the all wheel drive on my RX works so my wife can get to work at the hospital. So, I've given my two cents worth. Put your 3 cents in. Tell us what you think. Paul http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/1502_2015_bmw_m4_vs_2015_lexus_rc_f_comparison/viewall.html
  14. Same here. I am already retired but my wife will continue working for two to three more years. Fortunately, we hooked up with excellent brokers and retirement planning specialist to help with all of the things that begin when you retire. I think the hardest question is how much money do you need to last out the rest of you life. Regarding the RC-F, I hope those folks who have seen or driven one will share their experiance here. Paul
  15. High Chris and welcome to the LOC. Gene is a darn good technical member and frequently is able to weed out the specific problem. Remember that we also have an excellent data base that can be accessed by using the small white box at the top, right side of the forums page. There is a ton of information in the data base. Another place to go for help is the "Toyota Information Service". This site is Toyota's tech information center and has search topics for anything Lexus, Scion, and Toyota. It provides detailed technical information for Lexus including parts, diagnostics, electrical schematics for all systems, and on and on. This is not a free service, but the fees for short term use are very low. You can sign-up for 2 days of use for only $15.00. Other plans are explained when you log in. If you do check the TIS out we'd be interested in your opinion. Paul
  16. Everyone knows the old joke about the man who claimed to know every thing. He was asked one day by an art collector if he liked his latest acquisition. The man replied, "I don't know anything about art, but I know it when I see it." In an obtuse way the man's reply can be applied as well to the luxury products genre. What makes a luxury car a luxury car? Can it be a ridged set of particulars or more of a personal perception. I'm betting that given a large number of postings, there will not be anything close to a consensus. LoL Give us your opinion! Paul
  17. Hi everyone, I think this string has been terrific. The remarks made herein regarding the placement of the threads here vs. in the LS forummake good sense.I'm going to start another topic in the General Chat forum in hopes of bringing some more "thinker's" to the party. Our traffic has been making a steady climb upward since spring and it feels like the customer has become more confident in the economy.
  18. Hi Fran and welcome to the Lexus Owners Club. Your question is a good one. I have always felt that the biggest problem with the RX setup is that the large open area in the cargo area is difficult to configure a half way decent bass response. I'm not familiar with the 2007 cabin speaker placement, but I also have an RX - 2013 model so I know the basics of what you have. It's difficult to find a happy medium between loudness or best frequency. That's strictly up to your taste. For a nice, smooth delivery of sound in the RX I recommend placing an independent sub-woofer in the cargo area, possibly in place of the one in the side panel. Have your installer drive that sub with a separate amplifier. I have used this setup on all of my ES350's and the result is great. Before ripping out all the speakers, try this solution and see if it gets you any closer to what you want. As far as the Blu tooth functions, get at least 2 if not 3 bids for what you want and make sure they explain exactly what you want and how much each component cost. Sometimes it's good to find your components at the best price, yet take them to another shop for installation. Paul
  19. The configuration program is now up on the Lexus, com website for the new RC-F. Starting price is above $60,000. Better check our kids piggy bank. LOL http://lexusenthusiast.com/2014/12/07/2015-lexus-rc-f-configurator-now-usa-website/
  20. The configuration program is now up on the Lexus USA website. You should be able to go to Lexus.Com and reach the Lexus official site. Paul http://lexusenthusiast.com/2014/12/07/2015-lexus-rc-f-configurator-now-usa-website/
  21. Here are the November sales numbers for each car model. This should provide current, accurate data for comparing the current popularity of what models. When reading these numbers, keep in mind that Lexus sees their market nemesis as Mercedes, Audi, and BMW. It's important to remember that the US is just one market for Toyota. http://lexusenthusiast.com/2014/12/02/lexus-november-2014-sales-report/
  22. Thanks for your views. I'm posting your most recent post regarding the Wall Street Journal's article covering the same interview with the Lexus President.
  23. We will now observe a moment of silence for our departed friend, the LS - 1999 good and faithful partner. I don't know if the LOC is any different than say Club Lexus, but have you ever taken note of the number of postings there are here for legend/Classic Lexus models from the 1990's ? It is amazing to me that those who take great care of there LS for example, will often show 100,000 to 200,000 and above mileage and still run like a "top." Reliability has always been important to Lexus engineers as the years have gone by.
  24. A few days ago, Dec 3 to be exact, Lexus filed two new engine Trade Marks making two new models open for scrutiny. The two car models involved will be the LC and the NX. Both are badged as 500 & 500h. Based on Lexus tradition, the 500 nomenclature would mean 500 hp. The 500 h would gain 1 liter of displacement. IMO these are exciting tile for Lexus. The efforts they are making will move the cars from stale to market makers. Paul What do you think? http://lexusenthusiast.com/2014/12/04/lexus-trademarks-lc-500-lc-500h-canada-usa-australia/
