  1. Hi AzHOTLS, You will definately need the evac/flush given compressor failure and if you want to change over to R134. Those prices seem a little high to me. O-rings are on the high and low side and can be found at ,say, Autozone. Pace expects the old compressor back and give you 30 days to do so or they will charge you $100.00 They also will try and sell you a condensor claiming they wont warranty the compressor without it, given compressor failure. My mechanic said I did not need it and that is a good thing because changing the condensor is a whole nother ball game. When PACE got the compressor back they checked it out and found no internal damage. Between changing the drier and a good vacuum/flush, I think you will be okay. Well, good luck and let us know how you do.
  2. Thanks for your replies and support. I will let you know soon!!!!
  3. You can buy a re-manufactured compressor on E-bay or at PACE in Tampa 813-888-7991 with the drier for around $400. I wouldn't worry about the expansion valve for now.
  4. Well today I decided to test drive a 2002 LS430 to see the difference from my 1990 and I knew electronics was going to be a factor. The engine, upon start up, is silent. Quiter than mine, almost eerie. It was fully loaded as an Ultra, except for the rear passenger radio in the arm rest. Did have the seat heater knobs though. I thought it was an Ultra because upon observation it had vented seats, Grey wood, rear sunshade, front sensors, back sensors and suede headliner. The perforated seats with the ac blowing up your history was, how should I say this ?, KEWL!!!!!! Thanks, AKEWLGUY. As I am driving along with the Marl Levinson, also Kewl!!! I hear the Nav telling me directions back to the Dealer and I turned her off because I was cruisin. Nice feminine human voice, not Robo. Nav is neat. Anyways, it starts to sprinkle and the wipers start up on intermittent by themselves. Then the rain picks up and the wipers pick up. That too was Kewl!!!! On the Interstate and in Cruise Control, I come up on traffic and the car slows down to their pace..........Kewl!!! This was getting scary, so I went back to the Dealer and they were ogling my 1990. Nice car too!! with 96k miles. I am letting her go to a potential sister in-law, for money of course, and they want the car and I want their car so you can imagine the chaos :chairshot: Anyhoo..the ride was similar to mine, cabin was a bit quiter than mine but not much, nothing like a Lexus, but the pickup was awesome. Similar to my STS, which the ex got. We are haggling on the price as I watch E-bay and have a good idea of value by watching the bids. Oh yea, she is pearl white with cream interior and 59k miles. They came down to $32,500 from $35K and $6k on my 90. Quite an experience, but as all things, must sleep on it and do due diligence for 3 days. Old habit, not religion. Then I will haggle with them and potential sister in law. Only solace is I love my 90 as she has been very good to me and vica versa. Welcome to the 21st century...Ralph!!! Thought you guys would like to know!!!!
  5. i have started feeling the same vibration at all speeds and idle. Very subtle but still there. Normally would not notice it but I know my Lexus. I am suspecting mounts. In your case at 75 MPH sounds more like tire balance. I would think the mounts would cause vibration at all times. Maybe someone can help us.
  6. 3600 rpm + 110mph...not bad for loafing along. Multiply kph X 6 and drop a digit = close mph. Thanks Bluethunder2008 good pics, although it looks like you are in a sandstorm. That would be Ballsy!!! Just kidding
  7. Good luck Dag. Let us know of your success. Sometimes the extra mile takes us for a long ride.
  8. remove the headlight, the procedure should be in your owner's manual for bulb replacement. Pretty straight forward replacement. Two lines (in&out) and make sure you have new o'rings.
  9. The drier is located behind the passenger headlight.
  10. Hi fmpotter, Firstly, do you have the equipment to pull a full vacuum? My mechanic did a test on my condensor and did not feel the need to replace it nor the expansion valve. It is not about the tools but the labor and diagnosis are the problems. I supplied the drier and compressor and he charged me $400.00 for the labor vacuum and diagnosis. My condensor checked okay and I am in a cool cabin for three months now. I was of the opinion that it was the wisest move, though i can turn a wrench, I just was not qualified to diagnose post install. Plus the compressor requires working from underneath unless you remove the radiator. Hope this helps.
  11. For the clutch, remove the connector on top of the compressor. Engine off. Apply 12v + and -to the two male ends on the compressor and see if the clutch kicks in. That will tell you if it still engages. I suspect the compressor is shot and the grinding is indicative of shavings in your system which means pulling a vacuum and changing the drier which is located behind the passenger headlight, as that is where most of the shavings will accumulate. Once you have a hard failure like that some compressor remanufacturers will not warranty the new one without replacing the condensor. A good ac mechanic can determine if the condensor was compromised by doing a pressure check.
  12. I believe the rear view mirrors are actually cameras connected to a monitor or monitors on the dash. That would take some getting used to. SWO3ES is right as you can see the suicide doors open on the other side.
  13. Left to right and pretty cool. Play on words :whistles: Once rented a Mazda with it in 98 and was impressed as it moves all the air in the cabin. Hence, I think Mazda had it first, but could be wrong.
  14. froilan, Lived several years in Europe and you will not find a better car. The air suspension is susceptible to more damage from rough roads. Excellent choice. You can always tighten the suspension with the springs. This site can tell you how. But I don't think you will need it.
  15. Go to autozone and have it checked for free. They will tell you if it is battery or alternator.
  16. The only reason I mentioned the battery was because as mine get short on life it takes longer for it to start. Last time I bought a high amp battery and it starts first spin and no more fast dimming of the lights when the brakes are applied.
  17. sha4000 are you still having problems? If so, after all you have done I would suspect the water pump or a clogged radiator. By clogged I mean cleaning the fins. There are posts here on the procedure.
  18. Thank you guys for all your input, but a "Murphy" is always around, I got a new compressor and replaced the old one. Alas, still a leak, but my wise mechanic found the leak on the high pressure hose "under" the compressor. What was happening was the freon and oil were spraying onto the compressor in turn making the compressor slip on the drive belt and giving the blinking light for RPM malfunction. What a circus, as the high pressure hose was less than $200 and the compressor was $350 plus labor $300. Anyway I have a new compressor and new drier $50 along with vacuum and R134. I am happy to report all is well and I'm cool at last. LESSON: That high pressure hose under the compressor goes out frequently and causes ac failures. By frequently I mean on an LS at 90k miles. What a car!! We actually put the electronic snifter on the compressor from above and found a leak and thought it was the compressor when in fact, it was coming from underneath. So, my advice is to always check that high pressure hose from under the car. Hope my lesson will save someone some money. Thanks for your help.
  19. An electronic sniffer is the way to go if you have a mechanic that has one. You could call around. Besides the "O" ring at the fire wall the high pressure hose under the compressor goes out frequently. You would have to put it on a lift to get under there or jack it up. That hose is less than $200. Good Luck.
  20. Is "Ricers" a California slur? I'm confused.
  21. Congratulations, sounds Sweet. Welcome to both of you. You won't be disappointed and I'm sure, especially proud.
  22. As Grand LS 4 said, Drive it after the change and see. Sears did an outstanding job on my alignment, for cheap, with computer print out and all. Drive-ability was night and day.
  23. jmclean907, Have you had a chance to review or adapt any of the help from blackpoolmike? Sometimes we forget to reply to someone that has offered help, and this hurts the forum as the members don't know if their advice was helpful or not and could apply it to the next person seeking advice on the same subject. Always acknowledge someone taking the time to help you, right or wrong, so we may all benefit and help others. A lot of nice people here willing to help and we all need feedback in order to feel we are being helpful or need to get up to date in order to help others. Usually the threads will address these issues and all is well as we follow and learn from feedback. Sometimes there is no answer and we are left hanging. jmclean907, don't take this personal as we all have busy schedules and sometimes take a while to address our problems. I am just speaking, in general terms to some threads on this forum where some people are never heard from again. I suspect most sold their cars out of frutration :cries: Just kidding!!! Thanks for a great forum.
  24. sha4000, I was mainly referring to the ac condensor fans. They hardly ever come on, only under exterme circumstances and at startup for a few seconds. All normal on the early LS'S I don't know about the newer single fan units.
