  1. you should call that Lexus service manager back and tell him that not only did they not get your $1800 worth of your business, they lost a definate $400. They may not care, but you might like the feeling of an occasional "I don't think so!!!" steviej
  2. yeah, and if I tried to manipulate the tabs, I'll get slapped. :P steviej
  3. ok, I wanted to wait at least a week before posting preliminary opinions about this new tire. Funny too, that last night I saw the first commercial for these tires on TV. Keep in mind that these tires are new and the outgoing Dunlops were two years old with close to 25,000 miles on them. That may have some impact on the tire feel I am getting right now. First off I have to exclaim how impressed I am with the noise level of this tire. It is practically silent on all types of pavement. I would venture to say that they are even quieter than the stock Bridgestone RE92s if memory serves me correctly. Dry road feel is very responsive and super smooth. The tires held the pavement on some highly acceleratred, inlined and banked, on/off ramps to the highway. Mental note: I know it is totally unconnected but it seems as if the entire tire car has taken on a new feel of smoothness.....and dare I say it...even the tranny. I am sure it is just frame of mind and not actual. Rain performance is limited to one heavy rain storm and I have no complaints whatsoever. Never felt as though I was hydroplaning or about to. Not once did I loose steering feel or complete contact with pavement, nor did I feel like I was on the verge to. I cannont comment on any kind snow performance because it simply hasn't snowed. Maybe that is a good thing. We might have to wait until next winter for that. Bottom line: a very reasonably priced, extremely quiet tire that so far has proven itself on dry and wet pavement. I am quite happy with them at this early stage of the game. Stay tuned for more comments as I accrue more miles and experience with these treads. steviej
  4. I think you will find that Lexus/Toyota will not think it is a "problem". Apparently according to the other threads discussing this sound....it is the normal sound of direct injectors. do what the rest of us do, turn up the stereo. steviej
  5. monarch, just out of curiosity and in an attempt to find some slim sliver of credibility to you anicdote, what were your using for coolant in your 15 and 17 yo Toyotas before Toyota came out with their long life formulation? I am guessing it was green and it was what everyone else was using. steviej
  6. I saw that one coming. :whistles: Old and middle aged people know how to take advantage of young people, both physically (Catholic priests) entertainment wise (selling them drugs and 2 Fast, 2 Furious type movies) and economically (specialty lube and additive salesmen). However, they have little or no luck taking advantage of big businesses (they have no luck selling additives, specialty lubes and specialty filters to FedEx, UPS or other courier or delivery businesses or the automakers themselves). As for you two mburn and monarch......KNOCK IF OFF. You both act like grade school children sometimes. Keep this thread on topic or it gets closed down. Final warning. steviej
  7. at the top of the ES forum, you will find a FAQ (frequently asked question) thread. Please read, it will have some answers for you. steviej
  8. start with the easy cure, change the A/C cabin filter. That is outlined in the owners manual I change the one in my ES once a year. steviej
  9. so basically you are saying that you got paid to keep from blowing the whistle, yet you comment about the disturbing thought of how many people drive with suspended liscenses. :whistles: one way to stop them is to turn them in. The only lesson he learned is that he can stay out of trouble if he pays enough money. As for getting taillights, if you got $4500 from the guy, why cheap out on ebay, just order brand new lights from any on-line dealership. www.newlexusparts.com www.irontoad.com www.lexus-parts.com steviej
  10. 97 ES eyelids click here steviej
  11. hey LSW, you are replying to a thread that has been inactive for 4 months. You are new to the club so I just though I would let you know we call that "bringing back the dead". On the other hand, Welcome to LOC. steviej
  12. you should use part of the $4500 to pay for your rental while your car is in the shop. The big question is when all is done and paid for........if there is any money left are you going to return it to him? hmmmmm? scratches head. steviej
  13. according to the users manual use button B on the steering wheel. Control B: Sprouts special grip tires for traction over any kind of terrain. At the same time, 5,000 horsepower is distributed equally to each wheel by auxiliary engines.” Definition of “any kind of terrain”: firm, icy, or unsteady ground; ocean floor; vertical mountainsides. steviej (sorry RX, I couldn't resist)
  14. were there any witnesses? If not, you may be screwed. I would have called the cops and done it by the books. Tough crap for his suspended liscence. If he abided by the suspension you wouldn't be looking for a body shop. Additonally, if he didn't give you the $4500 up front, you may have a hard time collecting. Take it to several reputable body shops and get some estimates, then you will know for sure. What about yourself, any back or neck pain, headache, how fast was he going. What happens if you have any injury that manifests itself in the future, how are you going to be compensated or treated for that? You don't mention any injury so I assume it was just a fender bender and not a personal body slam. I love playing devil's advocate. steviej
  15. mdscorp, you need to chill a little yourself. This is the third post in the same thread that you have not read or interpreted correctly. Agreed, you can't get voice inflection or infer tone from just reading words, but please make and effort. mburn was NOT calling you a little punk. He was referring to all the actual "little punks" that try and succeed in converting to HID the cheap way and end up blinding all of us careful and diligent drivers. "Little punk" doesn't have to necessarily refer to age, it can refer to maturity or lack thereof. Everyone that has replyed in this thread has tried to help you by steering you in the correct direction for the proper installation of an HID system that will be effective for you and not interfering to others. Work with us as we try to help you. What you are misunderstanding is the frustrations of some talented people towards the actions of may DIYers that don't do it yourself correctly. These people are trying to help you get it right rather than letting you wander off and do it wrong. Fear not, you are amongst friend here unless you install the incorrect mode of HID conversion. steviej ES Forum Moderator.
  16. You should have emailed GM. The Tahoe comes out in Hybrid next. steviej
  17. receipts of the filter and oil purchases and a simple log or mileage and dates of your DIY oil changes should surfice. In addtion, I make a habit of writing the date and mileage on the new filter with a sharpie. My service manager indicated that this is fine for their records if ever needed. Like what, you didn't attach a picture. steviej
  18. $134 per V-rated tire + $14 for road hazard + 4 wheel alignement + disposables + tax = $700. It goes in Friday morning. steviej
  19. That would be monarch's way of saying: "Why no, I haven't."
  20. a quick search on tirerack.com shows the only sizes they suggest are: 225/70-16 225/65-17 235/55-18 245/50-19 245/45-20 sj
  21. did your tinting job not come with a warranty? I would take it back and have it redone. Everytime you look at it or notice it, you will hesitate and wonder if it is getting bigger. steviej
  22. You will see a hybrid version of the IS in the USA before you see a diesel IS. sj
  23. you should be able to pry it up with a screw driver. It takes a little force then "POP". Start with the edge closest to the seat. be steady and be consistent with the force. steviej
  24. do a search on tire pressure monitor a couple of months ago there was an extensive thread in the IS forum about it. steviej
