  1. Alan, I misunderstood your strips. According to your thread on CL, these strips run the length of the car, correct? I was thinking they were the strips that go down the edge of the door. Our 02/03 ES had the body side molding, I like it. But then again, we had no choice. steviej
  2. After you try monarch's search, then do a search on "synthetic" and read all the endless posts of people that switched with high mileage and nothing happened. If an engine had regular oil changes throughout its lifespan then chances are it was/is well maintained, the internals are clean with very little build up. Now, as always, here is the warning. If this becomes a rehash of the age old "oil debate" that we all hate to spend time reading but love to post in, it will be shut down. There are currently too many oil debates and threads throughout our database, so please, if you want to ask "which is better, dino or synthetic?", then search for it. We will not maintain oil debate threads unless someone has posted totally new information. I understand some of you are new, but this discussion opens many heated posts and creates tension between members. Until new information arises, this oil debate horse is beaten and dead. steviej LOC Management.
  3. Have a complete alignment first and ask to see how "out of spec" it currently is. 4 wheel complete alignment is around $80 (about the cost of one strut). You should be able to tell if the strut is bad by bouncing the corner of the car. If you replace the struts due to his suggestion, how much will you be out if it was the wrong suggestion. I would get a second opinion. steviej
  4. I would like it mandatory that everyone else puts the protective strips on their cars. Alan, I too have a handful of reminders from thoughtless people. The strips will protect the edge of your door, but not against the fool how doesn't think before they open theirs. Go with the lip spoiler instead. steviej
  5. that price is way too high. you can get the entire half shaft for less than $100 at Autozone or online. It is the labor that jacks the price up as it is about an hour and half job. Find an independent to put it in. Where in the Bay State are you. I can recommend someone for you. steviej
  6. I swear monarch works for Toyota. :whistles: do some price shopping. my guess the KYB would be even cheaper over the internet. for example for my 02 ES (non adjustable suspension) PerformanceCenter has KYB G2 struts (front/rear): $94.99/$71.99 www.newlexusparts.com has OEM struts (front/rear): $132.50/$157.97 steviej
  7. the 205s are 10mm less in width. Might have very slightly better traction in snow. 215 is stock width for the 16 inch wheel from factory for the ES, that is why TireRack posts that size. steviej
  8. the bolt pattern on the wheels has to be 5 x 114.5. If it is, I don't see why you couldn't. steviej
  9. here is a link to a thread with pictures to get the door panel off (I think it is a 97 in the thread). door panel removal see if you can locate the clip with you get it open. It may be self explanitory when you view the inside. several members have had to do this. maybe they will chime in. steviej
  10. Skydot, that is no way to greet a new member. As a matter of fact you are a new member yourself and I doubt you would have liked a response like that. There is no rule that says someone can't post the same question on multiple forums. I myself belong to three and ask alot of similar questions on all. I am just trying to get the most opinions. As for searching, you don't know if he didn't. I can say that our search engine is thorough but somewhat complexing to use if you are a newbie. Come on, cut the newest guy some slack. I do understand your feeling, though, sometimes it is hard to read posts from people that do ask questions that have been covered. But sometimes we just have to go with it. steviej
  11. in the auto business you NEVER have only 1 competitor. steviej
  12. that is exactly what I was thinking. Are you sure it wasn't code P0200? steviej
  13. ES = FWD IS = RWD (unless of course you opt for the AWD) steviej
  14. if you can't find the factory specification, start with 4-5 lbs below max for a start. steviej
  15. I can speak only from experience with my 02 ES, but it should be very similar. A full tank usually starts my Driving Range display at about 340 miles. When that gets down to 20 miles the low fuel light comes on. I fill up and have to put between 15.5 and 16 gallons in the tank. The tank is an 18.5 gallon tank so I deduce that my actual remaining fuel is about 2.5 or 3 gallons. Being conservative in my calculations I should get about 30-50 miles of driving left when the Driving Range display gets to 0. steviej
  16. I had to put new summer tread on the 18" Enkeis for my 02 ES. After lots of reading and talking and reading and researching and riding in other peoples cars, I went with the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s (235/40ZR-18). The Toyo FZ4s that were on there only had 21,000 miles on them but boy did they get loud in three years. They sounded like big ole knobby truck tires and they really transmitted the road vibrations. So far (only 100 miles of rain) these Goodyears are very quiet and smooth. Major improvement, but time will tell. steviej PS, the soundtrack for the new movie Cars and a $100 cash card from Goodyear eased the $1000 shelled out for the new skins.

  18. did this method damage the stud? just curious. steviej
  19. I still get it. go to Lexus.com and click a few buttons in the owners section and it will start coming again. steviej
  20. Thank you for the kind words in favor of this site and welcome to the family. steviej
  21. too late, I already read it. I don't think the millenium looks anywhere near tan or even a hint of tannish. Maybe you are confusing it with the other greyish color that was available. It was more like an off-grey, they called it Alabaster Metallic (3Q4). steviej
  22. I like that color very much. The moons shell mica whatever. My aunt has the crystal glacier pearl on her GS, that is nice too. I have decided to keep mine and get eye surgery instead. steviej
  23. you should pick up about 1 mpg by switching to synthetic (that would be 5% on 20 mpg) so 4% is not unreasonable. steviej
  24. Art, There is a whole forum on this site dedicated to your questions. Have a look. Detailing Forum. steviej
