  1. could be as simple as vapor lock, could be a fuel pressure regulator problem, could be an slow idle air control valve, could be dirty fuel injectors, a lazy fuel pump, a dirty TB assembly. could even be a malfunctioning coolant temp sensor. many of these can be faulty and not trip a trouble code. your best bet is to leave it with a skilled technician who can hook up the proper scan tools to monitor all engine signals ans sensors to see what it not operating properly when the engine won't start cold or when it needs full pedal to stay running. steviej
  2. contact member JPI. also, look for his add running occasionally at the top of the page (JP Importz). He is a corporate sponsor, Lexus certified and has a clean shop in Garland, TX. JP Importz steviej
  3. they are summer rims and the clearcoat was what i was thinking. thanks Sharad. steviej
  4. now it makes sence. I just came back from the tire thread. It's late and I'm working the night shift. I don't pay attention to interthread posting times. steviej
  5. Interesting thread. lexusk8 and Lexusfreak rave about the Toyo's. I am ok with the Dunlop A2's but as you recollect, I did say they were louder than the RE92's. The noise is very road surface dependent (old pavement is loud, new pavement is noiseless). They were superb in rain (any amount) and very grippy in snow. They are H rated and I found no difference in driving compaired to a V rated tire. Had Michelin made the Hydroedge in an H rating, I would be on them. Same for Goodyear Aguatreds. They only come in T rating. I am very interested in the Goodyear Eagle HS and the new Assurance. Both two very new tires. I have heard mixed rating on the michies. Terrible in slightly wet surfaces and too costly to overlook the differences in price. However, they do run true and have incredible tread life. good luck SW. steviej
  6. nor my 02. look underneath and see if a heat shield is loose. If it is an ignition knock, try a higher grade of gas and see if it goes away. steviej
  7. that is my schedule, too. I particularly like the synthetic for NE winters and the ease of mind in going 5000 miles. If I were to use dino, then I would go with a 3000 mile interval. any shorter than this is giving more money to the oil companies and we do enough of that at the pumps. steviej
  8. by copying everyone else's albums is how I managed to afford the Lexus. couldn't resist either. steviej
  9. change the filter, dissinfect the entire AC system, and run the dissinfectant through on a monthly basis. Keep it on fresh air and you shouldn't have a problem in the future. Until the mold and mildew is killed, it is going to be odorous. give it a try yourself. It's cheaper than going to the dealership. To make you feel not left out, many modern car makers are having this problem. Once the mold and mildew set up, it is hard to get them out, but it is do-able. steviej
  10. If you get a 3-4 inch rash from the curb on a chrome rim, what do you do? I was told to put a good layer of wax on the area to at least help the water shed off this area. It's not worth sending the wheel out for rechroming, so that is not an option. steviej
  11. as does the Dodge Viper and I have heard the entire MB line of vehicles now. steviej
  12. lose the mesh.......... ................................................please. steviej
  13. see if they have wires for the 97 Camry or Solara (was Solara around in 1997?). those should fit. steviej
  14. 1. download photos to ES gallery (click on add photos and follow instructions), then 2. open LOC a second times your desktop. 3. log in to one LOC and reply to thread you want to post in. 4. on the other LOC, go to the ES Gallery and click on the pic your want to place in the thread. when the pic is opened and the only picutre on the screen. right click, the select properties, then copy the http address of the pic. 5. go back to the LOC that has the thread open that you want to post a pic in. 6. when posting, click on the "IMG" button above the posting box. 7. paste the address of the pic in the new box that opens. 8 click OK and the picture is now pasted in the thread. download pictures of 600x400 or smaller. larger pictures will make the thread wider and the it is hard to see the pictures all at once. opening two LOCs on the desktop works great when you are posting multiple pictures but is not necessary if you only post one pic. With multiple pics you can alternate back and forth between LOCs and not have to backpeddle through the one forum. good luck, scream if you need any help. :P steveij
  15. I meant take it back to the shop that did the tranny work in the first place. Give them a chance to fix the problem. Hold them to their warranty. Second, they could have overfilled the tranny if they added 4 qts in but first drained only 3 qts. out. Anything is possible. steviej
  16. if it is within the warranty period of their work.....bring it back immediately. Brownish........long shot, but it has been known to happen that sometimes oil is put in the tranny by accident. Hopefully that didn't happen, and if it did, i think the tranny would have crapped out earlier. steviej
  17. alarm systems and key chips are theft deterent devices to keep amateur theives honest. If a professional wants your car, they are going to get it. steviej
  18. bdonk, during those years you would have been strapped in a car seat. The Cimeron was an X-body GM car mass produced across all car lines in the early 80's: Cutlass (Olds), Pheonix (Pontiac), Cimeron (Cad), Skylark (Buick), Citation (Chevy). All had oil leakage problems and all had power steering "morning sickness" It was not a high point for GM at that time. steviej
  19. the ES cabin filters are about $25 each from www.irontoad.com. Takes less than 2 mintues to replace. If your AC system is constantly on RECIRC then the smell comes back often. Like mbpgawest said, leave the system on fresh air (RECIRC off) to allow evaporate. Unscented Lysol is a common discenfectant used available at the local store. Spray for 45 seconds into the vent intakes at the base of the windows. Do this while running the AC on full cold and on full hot with the fan on full. Do this for 5 days each day. Then once a week for a month and then once a month for maintanence. This will help kill most of the growning bacteria/mold in the system already. Another product that I have heard alot about from "professionals" is called Atmosklear. It is used the same way and is only available through 1-800-977-4145. I am going on 43k miles and have only to change the filter once at 22k miles. I just change this filter once a year now. steviej
  20. what color is the tranny fluid? wipe the dipstick off on a white paper towel. Red = good. Brown or black = BAD. If the tranny fluid is red, then I would guess a seal in the tranny is gone and it ain't holding adequate pressure. If the fluid is brown....you got problems, especially since the fluid was just put in there. steviej
  21. sounds like the expansion valve. This is a common problem on the 1st gen. ES's. you stated you didn't change this, right? steviej
  22. yeah, we wave to one another. Kinda a down low five rather than a high five. If a Harley owner doesn't wave, it means that he needs both hands to hold the bike together or something will fall off. so I was told. :whistles: steviej Lex3486, my dad's got a 1983 Honda CM400T. That is the bike I learned on. We go ridin together all the time. Kind of a cool thing.
  23. yep, it do. :D
  24. Lexusfreak beat me to it. The early Norstars are oil guzzlers. Many problems and headaches when it first came out. oh yeah, bdonkersgoed, for the record: the worst Cadillac was the Cimeron. steviej
