  1. I don't agree. In the case of factory installed fog/driving lights, they are mounted alot lower than the headlights. If aimed properly they illuminate the ground in front to cut under the fog. Ever turn your headlights on high in the fog?.....right back in your eyes. Mounted low, they cut under the fog so reflection does not come back at the driver. Being mounted low also limits the light path to oncoming drivers. So in the absence of fog there should be no hinderance. I figure, the more light I have the better YOU see me. I drive with my fog/driving lights on whenever my headlights are on. They are aimed properly and do not serve as a hinderance to oncoming drivers and do not shine directly into the rearview mirror of the guy in front of me. The HID lights cast far more light than the fogs do anyways. This, however, is not the case if we are talking aftermarket fog/driving lights that have been mounted/aimed incorrectly. steviej
  2. vega-winner, if it is $1200 for just the timing belt, find out what they charge for the complete 90k mile service. I am very curious. It may be cheaper for you to take the drive to TX and see JPI. steviej
  3. I agree with bartkat, go with a name brand. They usually have a warranty and the quality is much better. try here, too: http://www.performancecenter.com/products/...p+Bulbs&sf5=D2r steviej
  4. I posted and answer in the other post where you asked this question. I am going to close this thread as the initial content was moved to the Buy & Sell forum and oldnfat's question is active in another thread. It will be less confusing this way. steviej
  5. first, I think they only come in black plastic. second, you could try local salvage yards, but you may have to remove them yourself......back to step one. or Lexus parts man. ching$$ ching$$. :( lastly you could try ebay. Currently this is one for an LS and one for a 1997 ES steviej
  6. if the system was totally flushed out (radiator, hoses, engine block, etc) before the green stuff was put in, then you shouldn't have any problem. If it wasn't then you may have problems. When in doubt.....flush it out. Then you know it was done right from the start. steviej
  7. dbrutus, take your car to Autozone and have the alternator load tested for free. See what they say. If it checks out, then it was most likely just an old battery that needed replacing. steviej
  8. We got that here too, The largest one is Herb Chambers (if the auto industry makes it, he sells it). He even sells Vespa scooters. Another guy is named Quirk, same thing, just a different area of the state. 1 owner, many dealerships. steviej
  9. gbhrps' responce is both informative and accurate. If I remember from your previous post, dbrutus, the car was purchased from a Toyota dealer (not Lexus), correct? I might add one more possibility. The previous owner at some point had the brakes done and an inferior aftermarket brake pad was used. Maybe a metallic pad was used. These will squeal when very little pressure is applied but will stop squealling when heavier pressure is applied. solution, replace the brake pads with new Toyota brand pads. If they won't replace them under warranty and your complaint of "noisy brakes" then they might meet you half way on this (you buy the pads, they do the work at no charge). Or order the pads from www.irontoad.com and DIY. steviej
  10. relax sk, we were teasing Lexusfreak, not you. steviej
  11. Tri-Flow© is a spray teflon lubricant that is very good. Most hardware stores and bike stores have it. Anything thicker than that will attract dirt and dust (ie. a thin coating of lithium grease). I use it on squeaky doors all the time and it is worth a try....ArmorAll. I would never use it for its marketed purpose, but it works great as a lubricant. steviej
  12. $140. not bad for the excellent job that was done. steviej
  13. AFTER PARTY AT ALAN'S HOUSE!!!! no..no..no, just kidding my friend. :P Alan, I knew we could count on you. steviej.
  14. each wheel has two pads (expendable surfaces that wear away), 1 rotor (large disk that the pads clamp on) and 1 caliper (apperatus that the pads are housed in, actually does the clamping of the pads). the emergency/parking brake is a whole separate mechanism inside the drum of the rear rotor hubs. Have someone check the brake pads, one may have been put in backwords. Funny as it sounds, it happens. If it was, the rotor is probably shot now too. steviej.
  15. thanks, I was thinking 97. my bad. learn something new everyday. steviej
  16. Welcome to the club. take a minute and familiarize your self with the setup and the pinned threads above. Some of them may contain the answers to quesitons you might want to ask and it will save you the time of asking. Also, just a note, until your post count hits 20, you will not be able to post in the Buy & Sell Forum and you will not be able to access the PM funciton. steviej
  17. the drop in air charger are as simple as pull out the old and drop in the new. Somewhere between 25 and 50,000 miles take it out and wash it with the special soap and reoil it according to directions with the special oil. Alot of newer vehicles caution against the use of these filters because of the oil possibily getting on sensors. This may be if the filter is over oiled. I have an 02 with no such warning and have had no problem. CAI and other applications from K&N are more involved. Stock paper/fiber filters are most efficient if changed every 15,000 miles or once per year. (most automakers use this interval.) steviej
  18. no, no removal is necessary. you just have to pop a couple of the fasteners that secure the trunk liner and the bulb sockets will be exposed. (new fasteners are available at Lexus if you break any) Search on this as lexusk8 has posted pictures and given good instructions as to the steps involved. steviej
  19. I share your dealer's thought in that it is more related to the electronic throttle that to the tranny itself. I have heard of RX owners complaining of similar hestiations. steviej
  20. at 114,500 miles it could be that a vacuum line has become brittle and popped off its coupler or a hose has developed a crack thus letting in or letting out lots of air. I have seen this before. Check the condition of all you lines and hoses. see if any are loose or disconnected. stand in front of the car with the hood open and have someone else rev the motor and see if you hear it.............or did you already do this. steviej
