  1. well, i started this thread and i must have totally forgotten about it. this 'deals gap' drive looks like a blast. its something i've always wanted to do. i also like the idea of a private meet in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge with just the people that happen to stumble across this thread. however, i also like the idea of going to NOPI. that would be an experience for sure. it would be really cool to do all 3 meets. something i didn't realize until now is the distance. its about ~7hrs/350 miles from Raleigh to in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge or 'deals gap'. i'm guessing thats probably nothing compared to how far some of you other ppl have to drive. just like blake, i have school then too. August 10th is when i start. unless u guys think we can squeeze in a meet the end of july or early august, hopefully before the 10th.
  2. i strongly agree with tds. that would be best for the safety of you and your car. just bite the bullet and bring it to a dealer.
  3. doubtful. theres probably something wrong with your cruise ecu itself. i had a 97 jetta and at 125k miles, the cruise simply stopped working. i would turn "cruise main" on, then it "set/accel". i would feel the gas pedal come back out quickly. if i held the accelerate button, the gas pedal would come out slower, but still come out and leave me coasting. i never got it fixed but it was believed to be a vaccum leak somewhere. i dont think cruise turns itself off b/c of strain. i also had a 94 mazda 626 5 spd. once i set the cruise at about 32 mph while driving in 5th gear (pretty low RPMs) and i pulled up the hand brake. the gas pedal simply went farther and farther down even as the speed dropped to 25 mph. cruise never turned itself off.
  4. ATF=Automatic Transmission Fluid it would be best to stick with toyota brand fluids. buy them from a toyota dealer and not from a lexus dealer: cheaper price ;)
  5. i swear. (yes i know its bad to swear blah blah. anyway) if/when Armageddon does happen, it'll be in the form of a storm. here in NC, we get severe T'storms about every day in the afternoon. every day i look up and see one from a distance, i just think.....omg, here it comes. clouds can look so dam freaky. especially the pitch black ones with lightning strikes about 2 times a second and rain that comes down so hard, u cant see the hood of your car when ur driving. those are really fun to drive in!! 90 - how many tornados were spawned by that system? any near u?
  6. theres something funny about this picture. it almost looks like the photo was edited and the car was posted into the background or something. i know this isn't the case but it still looks weird to me. it might just be because its 2:50AM i am yet to take pictures of my 94. i'm too dam lazy.
  7. Bi-Metal Vacuum Switching Valve a temperature-operated vacuum control valve that contains a bimetal element. The movement of the bimetal valve can be used to control applied vacuum to one or more vacuum operated devices.
  8. glad to hear we could be of some assistance.
  9. excellent pics my ls430! srgilbert: are you asking which fuse(s) is linked to the horn? there is a diagram in your owners manual, the engine compartment fuse box cover has a diagram on the underside of it, and i am not sure if theres a cover for the kick panel fuse box, but if there is, i would imagine there would be a diagram on it too. these diagrams will show you which fuse(s) is linked to the horn.
  10. i'm pretty sure there is a fuse for the horn in the kick panel fuse box. my 94 has a diagram in the owners manual that tells you which fuse is for which device. sk is right too. there's another fuse in the fuse box on the driver's side under the hood. i also think it's one of those large square fuses. good luck.
  11. yes, that is kind of odd knowing that there is no such thing as a 1990 GS400. also, what is this new user talking about? how do they figure that 'they demand more pictures of your undercarriage'? and who is demanding? myengineismissing: please enlighten me.
  12. hmmm. could that be because you are a new member? i think i remember hearing something about that.
  13. thats great to hear. maybe i should look into this. i have a 94 with 166k on it. i have tried to improve efficiency: new plugs, a newly cleaned throttle body, new air filter and properly inflated tires. i somehow still manage to get only 15 MPG/about 300 miles to a tank. even though this is about 70%-80% city driving, i still think i should be getting better. also, i've learned that my foot CAN come off the floor. this equates to my tachometer never seeing over 2,000 RPMs. i still need to replace my wires(which are original), cap and rotor. i also believe that i am still lacking HP. i have started other threads on this with no real "yes" or "no". i am not able to spin/sqeal tires from a stop on any paved surface, wet or dry. i have tried over and over again. i never even get the slightest chirp. the only time i can break traction is in a turn, under hard acceleration. my 0-60 is also pretty sad at something like 10 secs. i have never changed a fuel filter but i am very mechanically inclined. i hope the fuel filter is in an easily accessable spot and does not cost an arm and a leg to purchase. i am all about DIY b/c im not your average 17 year old: $180 car payment, $75 for my part of insurance, $35 for cell phone, and $40 a week for gas. thats a total of $450 a month with a part time job that just barely pays that. please give me good news and tell me its easy and cheap!
  14. wow. great to hear that. i had no idea if that could even be the problem. it was totally just a guess....i mean yea, i told you so. im always right and i know everything. jk. but really tho, i simply guessed! good job wu!
  15. very nice chips. that was excellent driving. do you do this often? you are very lucky that you can do the whole road course thing. i wish that there was a road course near me that didn't charge an arm and a leg to use it. i would be in heaven if i could take just 1 lap around a course like the one you drove on.
  16. any LS has enough power to do this. even the older ones. plus doesn't the 92 LSs have the smaller tires? im pretty sure that 90-92 LSs had smaller than 225/60/16 like my 94 has. i beleive they are 205/60/16 which means they are 205 mm wide. if i can drift with my 94 with 225 mm wide tires, it would be easier with tires that get less grip b/c they are narrower.
  17. i am not telling you that it was a dumb decision at all. since you said they are working great now, i am simply skeptical about how long they will last and if the rotors get warped quickly or not. i have always put cheap pads and rotors on my cars. i've heard many stories about people putting cheaper parts on their lexus' (other than brakes too) and how the LS doesn't get along with anything other than OEM parts.
  18. there have been too many threads about tire replacement to start another long one. do a search on "tires" and you will find everything you need.
  19. sk is right. if thats the case then i retract my statement about the thermostat. your cooling system is definitely not the problem. its not possible for air in the system, improper amount of coolant, or defective thermostat to cause such a large fluctuation in actual temp. there is something wrong with wiring like sk said or the sensor or something.
  20. well, when i first bought my 94, i was not thinking of how harmful this kind of driving can be. it IS possible to drift in an LS, but can be tricky, and only for a short time, like around one 90 degree turn. i have drifted many times around the same turn (a 4 way intersection) near my house when the roads were wet. it was a left hand turn on a 4 lane road. i have tried to drift around this turn when the roads were dry, and could not get the rear end to break loose. if you have never drifted in a real car before, i would strongly suggest that you dont try. it takes a lot of driving skill and quick thinking. i also know that you are 16 and dont have the years of driving experience that many members have and you probably dont know the limits of your 2 ton vehicle. i am an exception. i am 17 but i learned how to drift in other smaller vehicles in parking lots and such. i also learned how the LS behaves while sideways driving on gravel, sand, and on snow and ice this past winter. i just tell you this so that you dont go out and crash your car. once again, i suggest that you dont try this. if you must, experiment under controlled conditions such as a parking lot or somewhere that you wont hit something should you lose control. i do NOT drift anymore. i've had my fun with it and i now realized that its not worth the risk of totalling my car. plus drifting can tax your vehicle more than you think.
  21. just to clarify: i was driving my beater POS mazda at the time. NOT my lexus. i would never do anything like this in my LS. not only would it just be soooo stupid, but the suspension is way too soft to handle any landing even from 2 inches off the ground.
