  1. i can pretty much say for sure that a really really sensitive shock sensor will not keep the center caps on the car. my friend has a 94 prelude (riced out) and he has a "Viper" system with the most sensitive shock sensor. popping off center caps can be virtually silent and will not produce enough vibration. could there be a way to somehow lock them in place -not permanent- and only you would know how to remove. maybe a tab glued in place that.... i dunno. theres got to be a way if it really concerns you.
  2. geeze gapxguy! look at the madness you started j/k but really tho, that was a joke.
  3. well, im not sure either. just like you, this is only what i heard from 1 guy.
  4. BINGO!!! those sleezy b*stards
  5. thats odd. someone once told me that tires only get "cupped" on front wheel drive cars.... he was only about 22 so he was probably confused or something.
  6. 3,995 cm^3 = 243.789858 in^3 pretty good mbpgawest!
  7. my LS430: ECT power button: when it is switched to "power", the transmission chooses the best shift point with the most HP and torque depending on how much gas you are giving it. with "power" selected, the transmission will also downshift sooner than it would in normal when giving it more gas, for passing and the like. most people think all this switch does is make it shift at a higher RPM. the tranny will shift at a higher RPM with it in "power" but a better explaination is stated above. this is supposed to give a more "sporty" driving experience. however, it doesn't matter if this switch is "normal" or "power" when giving full throttle. your tranny should always shift right around 6k RPMs. skperformance: actually, it states in my 94 owners manual that the sounds that can be heard when traction control is operating are the rear brakes being applied. the throttle stays the same but the rear brakes control wheel spin. how do you think its possible for your car to still be go with one wheel on ice and the other on road. if traction contol decreased throttle this wouldn't be possible.
  8. VMF - i think she's got it covered now ;)
  9. grandpa - no kidding about the rain. here in NC there have only been a few days without rain since summer started. the forecast is so funny to look at. 30% chance of scattered t-storms for the next ten days and the whole rest of the summer! what is the deal??? Happy 4th everyone! dont blow yourselves up ;)
  10. my under engine cover fell off b/c the plastic cracked around where the screws went in. since i used to work at the local lexus dealer and know a few tech, i asked one of them what would happen if i left this cover off and never replaced it. reasons why the cover is there as explained by drew stancil: 1. to protect from road debris from coming up and hitting something. examples: chucks of rubber on the highway that bounce off the road and hit something that is newly exposed, a plastic bag that might be lingering on the road while driving in town that is sucked up by radiator fans or the metal fan that is in front of your engine. if a fan gets a hold of a plastic bag, it might rip out a bunch of your hoses as it is spun at a high rate of speed. this would generally mess up your day. 2. provide a little help aerodynamically. this cover keeps air from becoming turbulent as it hits odd shaped parts on the underside of your engine. he told me this really is not an issue unless you are going over 120 mph, and even then should cause that big of an issue. 3. protect from water that might splash up when hitting large puddles. drew said that the only things that might be affected by water getting in there are belts and the like. its possible for water to reach the power steering belt causing stiff steering and a squealing belt until the water dries. another possibility is that water might get into your drive belt and..... not quite sure what he said about that but i guess it'll seem like you're in neutral. i asked about the alternator and other electrical devices getting wet and he said not to worry about it. either way, my cover has been off for about a month and i haven't had any issues yet. the cover is too damaged to be fixed and i'm too poor to buy another one so... its gonna stay off.
  11. does that really make any difference at all?
  12. i have a 94LS and was just wondering what the "snow" mode does on the ECT switch in newer LSs as shown in this pic. this is a pic that blake918 posted in a different thread.
  13. i had a "rattler" system intsalled in my prev. car and it worked well. the shock sensor could have been more sensitive but it served its purpose.
  14. what size rims are on your car now?
  15. what a beautiful car and what a good job executing it! great work!
  16. im going to have to agree with both of the previous replys. check the tire PSI all the way around, check alignment, and what 99lsguy said. Also, what exacly do you mean by "jerky steering"? tell exactly what the car is doing and give examples.
  17. no, the EPA will fine him/her $25,000 for being negligent and not fixing a leaking system which allowed the extremely harmful refrigerant to leak into the environment. the EPA will only fine the tech if they find out.
  18. another thing that i'm interested in learing about is the "snow" position on the ECT switch. i fully understand and know what "power" does but what does "snow" do? lock the rear diff? that would be nice.
  19. great idea! that ought to do it
  20. first, have you ever driven other LS's around that year? the LS, especially the older ones like my 94 just have really soft suspension. my car nose dives when braking and the opposite when accelerating; the same concept with turns, quite a bit of body roll if you take them quick. the most easiest way to tell if you have air sus. is to look to the left of the shifter right above the ECT power/norm switch. im not sure if it is labeled "height control" but it will say "normal" and "high". if for some reason you are unsure what i'm taking about, look in your owners manual on the first few pages. it shows pictures of guage cluster, and instrument panel. these switches are labeled on these pages.
  21. yes, you should have a plastic cover under the whole engine compartment minus the oil pan.
  22. IM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS STUPID FAMILY. I WANT OUT.
  23. no matter what year or model, you can always bypass the auto settings.
  24. im not going to stoop to your level of childish bickering and one upping just to see if i know what im talking about. i dont need to explain myself mother.
  25. and actually, its 2,700 HP: here it is 1UZ-FE twin turbo "While on the internet, I also have found that the Lexus LS400 engine is a very strong V8. The LS400 engine (1UZFE) has been documented to produce over 2,700 horse power. That is with built internal with 50 psi of boost."
