  1. Travieso~13 - this is one of my previous posts from a little while back. hint: searching the site can answer so many questions. ECT power button: when it is switched to "power", the transmission chooses the best shift point with the most HP and torque depending on how much gas you are giving it. with "power" selected, the transmission will also downshift sooner than it would in normal when giving it more gas, for passing and the like. most people think all this switch does is make it shift at a higher RPM. the tranny will shift at a higher RPM with it in "power" but a better explaination is stated above. this is supposed to give a more "sporty" driving experience. however, it doesn't matter if this switch is "normal" or "power" when giving full throttle. your tranny should always shift right around 6k RPMs.
  2. try a toothpick ;)
  3. wrong section buddy. you are in the SC forum; you want to GS forum can a moderator move this to the GS forum
  4. did you pay anything for the work or did they do it free of charge?
  5. i believe it is also a LSD so i think theres a limited slip additive to add too.
  6. i've gone 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 MPH!!!! just kiddin sean! :P B) but i have gone 145mph in my LS4! :snoooorrrtttt:
  7. acf, my friend in cali is shopping for a SC400. he found a good car on autotrader but would like to check the car's history b4 purchase. VIN:JT8UZ30C6N0007401. email me at pwnage36@yahoo.com please. thanks a lot
  8. EXACTLY!!!! words of wisdom from a wise man!
  9. i believe indigosun is too new of a member to be able to PM.
  10. hehe thats what i did a few times when i first got my 94
  11. well actually my fuel light doesn't come on until it gets to atleast where yours was in the pic. i've had my needle at the same spot many times and driven another ~30 miles city driving (and i only get 16-18 MPG). your fuel light might work. drive around until the needle gets directly on top of and flush with the line next to "E". if it does not light then, it is broken for sure. if you are really worried about running out of gas (you shouldn't be), bring a small gas can with you. another indication of exaclty how much gas you really have left in your tank: when you fill up next time and the needle is about where it was in the pic, notice how many gallons you put in. your tank is 22.5 gallons. if you think you are "really low" (like in the pic) and you pump till the pump stops, you will probably only put in like 17-18 gallons. that means you still have like 4-5 gallons remaining!
  12. i sure hope u dont mean 44psi cold pressure!! :o if you read the sidewall of your tire, it says to NEVER exceed 44psi. they dont recommend 32psi for comfort, they recommend it for safety! you run the risk of a blowout, especially on the highway. if the tires are at 44psi cold, then u get on the highway and run at high speeds, the tires heat up and the pressure rises to ~50 psi and then BAM!!! that would not be very fun. not to mention with high psi, the tire will bow out in the middle of the tread and wear excessively in the middle. have a look at your tread and make sure it not almost bald in the middle! btw blake - about 3 weeks ago i had a 6 inch threaded bolt go through my left rear tire sideways. since the bolt did not drive past the tread and into the tire, there was nothing to be patched (it still holds air). i do not want to drive on that tire b/c the tread is compromised and may fly apart at high speeds. my car HAD 4 nearly new bridgestone turanza LS-Ts and the spare was a michelin.....something or other. i decided to leave the "spare" (michelin) on the left rear as a permanent and put the damaged turanza in the trunk as a spare. the reasoning behind that is: if i get another flat, i can drive around on the damaged turanza around the city, i just dont want to risk highway driving. all 3 turanzas and the 1 michelin are all inflated to the same psi (32). Anyway, the reason i brought this up is: i figured out why u can burn rubber and i can't. since the michelin is on the rear of the car, it must handle acceleration forces. whenever i floor the car now, no matter what the conditions (wet/dry, AC on/AC off), the michelin ALWAYS breaks traction. i can't always do a burnout, but it WILL break loose for atleast a second. the T rated turanzas must be a softer and grippier compound than the V rated michelins. so i have solved my mystery of whether or not my car is lacking HP!!! the answer is NO. i just had ridiculously grippy tires.
  13. i definatly think everyone should watch this. this video is amazingly non-biased. it makes fun of both candidates just as much!! :P "This Land" bush and kerry
  14. now how bout a trail of flaming rubber behind the car left by the tires? that would make my day! :D
  15. wow!! you're good migirdech!! how'd u know that?? 90: looks perfect. i've driven far too many LS's to count of all years and its really obvious when somethings wrong. glad everything works fine ;)
  16. great idea! ;) this ought to be really interesting. Moderators: please leave this thread here(it should probably be in the general forum right?). once everyone in the LS forum votes, move it to general. (different audience, more votes :D )
  17. no offense. i don't mean to make a joke out of this but.....'overkill'..... pun very much intended
  18. i think i can do this. i tried to retrieve any codes a few days ago while i was in the TDCL port clearing my airbag light. i followed these directions to retrieve the codes. i didn't have a check engine light or anything but i've heard that it might store a code w/out the check engine light appearing. i followed all directions but once i connected the 2 ports with the jumper, instead of flashing a out an error code, it flashed over, and over, and over again. does this mean that my car is OBDII - or - does it mean that there were no error codes to retrieve?
  19. ok, im learning. to clarify: when exactly did the LS become OBDII compliant? my LS was manufactured 4/94. is my car OBDII? is there any other way to tell if my car is OBDII compliant?
  20. you'll find that most of us do our own service, as long as it isn't too major. Lexus' are generally a pain in the a$$ to service but its doable.
  21. that does sound rather strange, but if the car is kosher....JUMP ON IT!!! blake is right: exceptional value is an understatement. to give you an idea of what kind of deal you would be getting, i bought my 94 LS 7 months ago. at the time, it had 155,000 miles on the odo. the car had a rather extensive service history at the local lexus dealer, who did a pre-purchase inspection on the car before i bought it. i showed the dealer who was selling the car (not a lexus dealer) the results of the inspection and he agreed to fix EVERYTHING the lexus dealer found wrong. after a few days in the shop and viewing a reciept from the shop ($1800 worth of repairs), i agreed to give the seller his full asking price: $10,900. so, in a nutshell: 94 LS400 155,000 miles existing service history loads of pre-purchase repairs = $10,900 if this 99 is for real, and u get it for that price, you are the luckiest man alive!! good luck
  22. i also follow the 2k rule. i feel the 2k rule should only be applied in city driving. i dont follow the 2k rule to promote engine longevity as much as i do to conserve fuel. i usually follow the 2k rule most of the time but whenever i find a dumba$$ ricer or a 5.slow that needs to be tought a lesson, i rise to the occasion. the way i see it, the rule is only worth it in the city. driving above 2k on the highway is the way it is supposed to be. first of all, 60 mph is way too slow, especially for long trips. second of all, you will get just as good gas milage, if not better the faster you go (up to a certain point). i only speed up for people behind me if i'm on a 1 lane road. just my 2¢
  23. THANK YOU VMF!!! i knew i wasn't totally stupid when i quoted the website. Blake: it can't be!! take a pic of this "OBDII" insignia on the diagnostic port cover? is there any other way that you can "prove" your car is OBDII?
  24. right about now i wish i had taken a pic of my speedo when i hit 145mph in arizona. that was a lot of fun!! :D
  25. thats something i do with my 94!! (nice car for a 17 yr old) if i had an '04 430, i'd pass out every time i sat in it. Thats a phenomenal car!! congrats!!
