did i miss something or is this whole shrimp story totally ramdom? either way, i still learned something: theres a way to drain the spare tire well. good to know, it might come in handy some time.

the only question i have is how well do they work? do they work as well as oem parts and how long will they last? obviously, you wont know the longevity of them until you put a lot of miles on them, so please post a few months from now and tell how they have held up.

i believe thats what new_owner's problem is. i've heard of and experienced this problem before on many different makes and models of vehicles. just like you, as soon as you press "auto" or "ac" (both will turn the compressor on), the engine simply dies. 10 times out of 10, it was a locked up AC compressor.

not from the dealer you wont. it is highly unlikely that the dealer would ever sell just a switch. its like when i wanted to fix my ashtray. when u push on my ashtray when its closed, it doesn't spring out and open like its supposed to. i have to pry it out with a coin every time i want to use it. all that is required to fix my ashtray is a spring. the dealer said "NO". they would have to sell me the whole ashtray assembly which costs about $350 plus labor (i declined and am sticking with the coin trick). if you are good with cars and think u can DIY, i would take apart the dashboard/console (whatever its called where the switch is) and maybe you can clean the contacts or something. or better yet, you might discover that the wire simple got unplugged from the switch and thats it. i honestly dont know how complicated the dashboard/console is but it makes sense to me.

Almost Got Rear-ended By A 95-97 Ls400 Today &
1UZ-FE replied to 90LS400Lexus's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
i haven't seen any sailing 430s but i once (actually multiple times) piloted an airborne mazda. my previous car was a 94 mazda 626 which i didn't give two sh*ts about. at the local movie theater in the far parking lot (which is usually empty) there is perfect ramp (no kidding). it is paved parking lot and the lane that runs inbetween the rows of parking spots looks something like this _____/¯¯¯¯¯¯¯. i made the mistake one time driving from right to left (down the ramp) at about 20 mph. the nose of my car didn't "kiss" the ground, it made out with it. when driving the proper direction (up the ramp) the angle of the slope and the weight distribution of my mazda were so perfect that every time i landed, all 4 wheels hit at the same time. the body never touched the ground but i tore up my strut mounts from bottoming out so bad. the fastest i ever hit this ramp was about 35 mph. i think i got about 4 or 5 feet in the air. thats an insanely great feeling. -
have you tried adjusting the lumbar support on your seat? lumbar support is a bulge in the lower section of the back of your seat. this adjusts the amount of support given to the curve of your lower back just like an ergonomic computer chair. this may be too far out or in. P.S. i think the 90 models had this. i am not sure. look at all the different power adjustments on the side of your seat and see if it exists. if you dont have lumbar support, you will only have 2 buttons. if you do have this, you'll have 3 (1 horizontal, 1 verticle and 1 button that is rectangular shaped-lumbar support)

Grandpa is correct. i have a 94 just like Wucantstop and the button does not click or stay in and is not supposed to. the "trac off" button works list like the stereo system: push the volume knob in and it will come out back to where it was originally and the stereo will turn on. to add to what grandpa also said, when you first turn the key to "on", the "trac" light should come on in the middle of the speedometer and turn off after a few seconds. this is the system doing a self check. the "trac off" light should also turn on and off at the bottom of the dash when the key is turned to on. if neither of these lights illuminate, you have internal traction control problems just like jakeroux.

simple. you must PM him. the easiest way to do this is to click the "PM" link at the bottom of anybodys post. at the next screen simply change the recipients name to PIONEERSUBY in the box next to "OR Enter the members name here". then tell him what you would like help with in the box labeled "Enter your Post"

Dont flip out everyone....I'm a 17 year old senior in high school. My parent's did not buy my car, i pay through the nose for it. I used to work at johnson lexus in raleigh, nc and made an outstanding $8.50. thats damn good for a 16 yr old (i was 16 when i first started) and it was my first job.

from what i gather, your temp guage is giving a correct reading. the problem is most likely your thermostat. i know you said that you just replaced it but it can still be bad. it would appear that your thermostat is "sticking". a thermostat is a metal spring and as it heats up from engine heat, it expands and opens the floodgate for the coolant to circulate. your thermostat is not expanding like it is supposed to, staying shut, causing your engine to overheat. i had the same exact problem in my 94 mazda 626.

classic! are you looking for a permanent professional type fix or just a way to keep the water out?
-
good to hear the news. even a slight chance of fixing it is better than knowing for sure and it costing big bux. hope all works out ok.

exactly ;) . thats exactly what Vtec does in hondas. but i think Vtec is a bit more involved and does a few more things. my friend has a riced out 94 prelude with the H22 engine (2.2 ltr Vtec) and hes packin 305 HP at the wheels! (i saw the print out from the dyno). its naturally aspirated. aka: no turbo and no supercharger. the dyno test was without NOS (which he has too). when he 'sprays' NOS, he figured about 425-450 HP!!

just be happy it wasn't your house.

93LS - so wait... are you questioning whether or not your house was struck by lightning? if so, it probably wasn't. you would know 100000000000% if your house was struck. about 2 yrs ago, lightning struck a tree in a neighbors yard 2 houses down from me splitting it strait down the middle. the flash of light (which was purpleish/violetish/blueish) and the enormous bang came simultaneously. i was home alone at the time on the computer. when it struck, i was blinded by these colors above, and almost jumped into the ceiling cause it scared the sh*t out of me. the power amazingly never shut off or even flickered. when my vision was restored, i saw the computer monitor was still rocking side-to-side from the blast. as i walked around inside the house to survey the damage: i found many pictures that were rattled off nails in the wall, broken drinking glasses that were touching eachother, all the incadescent (the ones with a filament) light bulbs that were on when the lightning struck were blown. the filaments were simply shaken apart inside the bulb from the blast. outside u found that 3 of the screens over the windows fell out, and that our decorative front porch light had simply shattered. only the metal frame remained and some of the glass ended up in my foot. moral of the story is.... there wouldn't be even the slightest doubt if this happened.

and this was well executed! ;)

the type/quality/grade of metal used should tell you that. oh man. theres nothing like seeing your name 11 times and 9 are in a row as latest posts on the LS forum main page simple things for simple minds i guess

bartkat - to clarify: Variable Valve Timing with intelligence. this either advances or retards the timing of the valves opening/closing to maximize engine performance.

well, my fourth was wonderful. i drove 2.5 hrs to carolina beach with 3 friends in my 94 and they loved it. what we didn't love was the fact that we got torrential rain for about 2 hours out of the 5 hrs we were there. the best part was that the rain came at us parallel to the ground. the wind was horrible. then the grand finale came in the form of a 20 degree drop in a big gust and even heavier rain. and then once we were back in raleigh, the heavens had its own 4th firework display. (must have been the illegal stuff from SC). no rain in raleigh, just the most spectacular lightning i've seen in 17 years. only he can put on such a breath taking show. hope everyone had a fun, safe, and healthy 4th and eveyone comes back with the same number of fingers, toes, and limbs they had on the 3rd

honestly thats out of my league. all i know is that VVT-i was introduced in 95. right?? i think so. either 95 or 98. i do know for sure that 90-94 were not VVT-i. either way, i really dont know about how that would work with VVT-i and especially in tiptronic. and actually, i would think that "power" would do absolutely nothing in tiptronic b/c you are shifting yourself. thats only logical right? can someone else with more expertise enlighten us??
